EnviroOne Crop Guide

The EnviroOne Crop Guide is a free app (for use on phones, tablets, and TVs) that allows the user to select a crop of choice and the type of soil the user wishes to grow the crop on. The app then guides the user with the optimum amount of water (i.e., percent soil moisture) and pH (i.e., alkaline, slightly alkaline, neutral, slightly acidic, or acidic) needed for maximum yield of the chosen crop. The app also tells the user whether the selected soil type is the appropriate soil type. If it is not, the app then suggests the most appropriate soil type for the chosen crop. These three parameters (soil type, pH, and soil moisture) are key for maximum and profitable crop/plant growth. For example, agriculture is the largest consumer of freshwater by far and accounts for 70% of freshwater withdrawals from rivers, lakes and aquifers and up to more than 90% in some developing countries. Saving water by using the minimum amount of water necessary for maximum crop growth is a key factor in farm profitability as well as reducing the impact of water shortages and climate change worldwide.
