Waldbau in Österreich auf ökologischer Grundlage
Eine Orientierungshilfe für die Praxis

Ziel dieser Orientierungshilfe ist es, Praktiker bei ihren waldbaulichen Entscheidungen zu unterstützen.

Zwei Fragen sollen damit beantwortet werden:

Ausgehend vom Standort
Was ist hier ein „optimaler Wald“ und was ist dafür zu tun?

Ausgehend vom vorhandenen Waldbestand
Welche nächsten Schritte sind in diesem Waldbestand zu tun und wohin kann er sich nachhaltig entwickeln?

Räumliche Lage, Geologie, Boden und Klima bilden die von der Natur vorgegebenen Wuchsbedingungen für Bäume und Wälder.

Sie finden ihre Ausprägung im jeweiligen Standort. Diese ökologischen Standortseinheiten sind Basis für die waldbaulichen Empfehlungen.

Um sich rasch und einfach in der Fülle der Möglichkeiten zurechtzufinden, werden, ausgehend von der räumlichen Lage des Waldes, modellhaft die wichtigsten Waldbaumaßnahmen für die bedeutendsten Waldtypen beschrieben.

Es gibt kein „Rezept“ für jede waldbauliche Entscheidung.

Die Vielfalt der Natur erfordert oft individuelle Urteile und den Blick für die Entwicklung eines Waldes. Die Beobachtung des Bestandes, die Einschätzung seiner Reaktion auf durchgeführte Maßnahmen und die Vorstellung der zukünftigen Entwicklung sind die entscheidenden waldbaulichen Erfolgsfaktoren.

Diese Anwendung soll diese Erfolgsfaktoren unterstützen.
