Dislike the fact you can only top up online with $40, i dont use public transport all the time, my local supermarket coles dont sell or top up opal. Would love to see smaller online amounts available. Love the fact you can watch where you are travelling along map and stop updates. Top up didnt show even when pushed the refresh button. I physically had to rescan card to show topup

The stop alerts were such a great addition! Pity they don't work very well. If you leave the app, it resets itself. It may say you have a trip in progress but it stops following. You have to keep the app open for it to work which seems counter productive because then you can follow it anyway.

I was surprised to see a lot of negative reviews for this app as I could not get around without it. Simple to use, official times and consistently good updates. A lot of people are complaining about the minimum top up but it's been lowered to $10 for adults and $5 for child/youth. While I wish you could use your phone to be your Opal card the developers have the right ideas.

Refuses to run, because, so it says, my device is rooted (it has a custom ROM because the one from the vendor no longer works reliably), claiming this is for security reasons. There is no conceivable legitimate reason for it to do this. There is nothing whatsoever this app does that would be compromised by a custom ROM or rooted device. Even if there were, that would not justify anything more than disabling the affected features - why the hell should TfNSW refuse to let me use the timetable feature in the app just because I run a custom ROM? This is the Government trying to dictate, administratively (without an Act of Parliament) what citizens can do with their own property. Perhaps a complaint to the Ombudsman is in order.

Provided me wrong info for two days in a row! Such annoying n the bus schedule is not correct! Adding the bus stops was a great idea but still.... sucks!!!!

What do you care if my phone is rooted or not. If done well, you wouldn't have security risks in your app. Useless.

D70%
by D####:

Quite poor. Early Sunday evening, it won't give details for trips until the following morning - departing in 16 hours etc. Google maps is more reliable.

D70%
by D####:

It would be nice if the opal card was integrated into this app so we don't need to carry around the physical card itself. It would be very efficient if we can simply use our phones to tap on and off.

D70%
by D####:

Good and helpful app. I love stop warnings. Ability to plan the best route. I don't like that bus schedule is not reliable. Had a trouble with it at Moore Park. .. Official schedule on the stop is nothing like it. Some schedule renewal is due?

D70%
by D####:

Time shown are consistently wrong by at least a few minutes, just enough to miss trains. Routing only shows the shortest (I think) no option to change that AFAIK. Card activity is not real time.

D70%
by D####:

The app is good, but one thing i would like to propose is kind if reminder for tap off, if someone has tapped on. This can help to save the default fare being deducted and help passengers.

Still useless ... all my banking apps install and run on rooted devices no problem ... but not secure enough for an Opal account with a $40 balance?

Q70%
by Q####:

40 dollar minimum and you can't buy one way tickets with cash at most if not all stops

X70%
by X####:

I would hope for more from the government, but as usual I am left trying to get some use from a govthack-job, Poor Effort, Thanks???

D70%
by D####:

The activity statement has crashed... + 99% of the time tap on and tap off deducts ammount, gates open then it displays try again info... why?

D70%
by D####:

One star until you change access for rooted devices - it's as bad as Snapchat. My bank doesn't even bar me!

D70%
by D####:

STUPID If you want to use it to top up your OPAL card don't use it!!! Takes a very very long time for it to show up on your card and the bus driver does not care so you will end up walking.... Use any other means to top up your card than this worthless app...

D70%
by D####:

The card scan feature is very tempremental and has only really worked once or twice

D70%
by D####:

Useless for anyone with a concession card - just tells you to call opal. uninstalling

D70%
by D####:

The only way to reset your password is to call the centre, go through 10 steps of selection options and payments take 60 minutes to reflect. Minimum amount is too high.

Z70%
by Z####:

The app needs to include the available to use NFC on Android devices such as the same with tap and pay feature offed by the banks.

D70%
by D####:

Does not let me use the app because I have a rooted phone. Unhappy.

D70%
by D####:

Awful service if you need to reset your password. Let us use our email address to get a password reset rather than having to call the opal call centre and wait for 20mins on hold.

D70%
by D####:

Cool app! Works great! But I would love to see a resizable widget. Cheers!

D70%
by D####:

Australian Government Tramsport is a joke. We are forced to use it yet not once has a trip ever worked or on time. Over 1hr late everytime

R70%
by R####:

Schedule time tables are wrong and can't use on rooted phones, so useless!!!

D70%
by D####:

Can't run on rooted device... I can do anything I won't to get my device to work properly ( if rooting is what it takes )!!!

E70%
by E####:

Buses disappear from the trip planner 10 minutes before they arrive. Terrible.

R70%
by R####:

The app should automatically remove the "Trip in Progress" card in the notification shade once the trip planned had ended. The only way I could remove it is to close the app itself.

X70%
by X####:

Terrible implementation of a very simple concept. Trip planner should work much better, but it doesn't use live data even though it's available. Crashes very frequently, including every time the app switcher is used (I report this each time it happens, i.e. every time I use the trip planner i.e. several times daily), obviously nobody is reading the crash reports. Perhaps worst of all, when you make a payment using the app it takes anywhere up to two hours to actually process into your myki account - during which time you cannot legally use the card and can be fined for fare evasion if you do. This is tantamount to fraud. The bus operators are very eager to point out that you can't top up after boarding. The arbitrary forced minimum top-up amount of $40 is so obviously aimed at profiteering off tourists and day trippers it's not even funny. Lastly, although not the app per se, the one benefit of the Opal system and sole compensation for losing monthly tickets was free travel after eight trips - and this was recently withdrawn. It's like they want to encourage unsustainable private vehicle use in one of the world's worst driving cities... Picks up 2 stars for the nfc implementation to let you check your balance - and then loses 3 stars for not letting you use your phone's nfc instead of the physical card.

Just spent 30mins on the phone trying to reach someone with half an idea on the "scan card" feature but all I found was incompetence, well done guys

N70%

Now you have stop alerts, how about vehicle position on the maps?

L70%

Scrolling up is not working on the opal activity page. It refreshes the page instead.

D70%

I love portable timetable. Enter in starting point and destination and you get the times of the next bus/train

G70%

I just topped up 5 bucks but it didn't charge my opal card

C70%
by C####:

Amazing app! Everyone who has a opal card should use it

F70%
by F####:

I like it because I can quickly see what my balance is, and how many rides until I'll get to the cap. It's good for the basics-- balance, rides until you've met your cap, and topping up. Want better directions? Use google maps or TripGo. Want to do more than the app can provide? Use the "big" Opal website. It does have the advantage over other apps that it's not screen scraping from the Opal website. Those apps get to scrape your personal info. This one (because it's through TfNSW) should be more careful with your personal data.
