Beer pong (or Beirut) is a drinking game. In Beer pong, players throw a ping pong ball across a table attempting to land the ball in a cup of beer at the other end of the table. The game is usually played with two teams of two players each with 10 cups arranged in a triangle pattern on either side. Each team takes turns trying to get ping pong balls into the other team’s cups. Once a ping pong ball makes it into a cup (this is called a make), the other team has to drink the contents of that cup (usually beer) and the cup is removed from the beer pong table. Beer pong is won by removing all of the opponent team’s cups. Beer pong was originally played with paddles, but has evolved to its current form. Beer pong is rumored to have been created in the fraternities of Dartmouth College sometime during the 50s and 60s. The original Beer Pong looked more like the game ping pong with a net and cups of beer on either end of the beer pong table. The paddles were eventually dropped and the name officially changed to Beer Pong or Beirut.


Opinions vary but, Beirut refers to the version of the game without the paddles, and Beer Pong to the version with. However, Beer Pong is the more common name for both versions of the game.
