Higher Education Law Portal

The “Internationalization” of the curriculum is an effective means of providing an academic environment that supports the diverse cultural, academic and professional learning needs of local and international students world-wide.  "Internationalizing” university curriculum is a powerful and practical way of bridging the gap between rhetoric and practice to including and valuing the contribution of global students.

This app is a valuable tool for educators, students, practitioners, faculty and university administrators, who are interested in aspects of higher education law from a local and global perspective.  Students and practitioners often have several legal questions and concerns about their professional rights and responsibilities on issues such as the legal implication of use of social media tools, privacy rights, freedom of expression, copyright, patent and trademark and much more.
 
This Higher Education Law Global Portal is part of East Tennessee State University’s instructional grant for the internationalization of ELPA 7822: Higher Education Law. We look forward to a continued and sustained global interactive time in this portal.  This portal will serve as a hub or network for the access, dissemination and retrieval of important legal resources and materials pertinent to higher education law both in the United States and globally.  Our partner institutions overseas have also agreed to participate in legal information and resource dissemination. We are grateful for their input into the portal.
The Higher Education Law Global portal/hub will serve as:

A dynamic platform for faculty and student exchanges of global, international and local ideas, publications, resources and materials on higher education law.
A “virtual discussion forum room” for mutual global exchanges on legal and policy analysis topics on issues pertaining to higher education. 
 A network where the creation of multi-media such as podcasts and videos of selected legal comparative topics by professionals’ and students world-wide would be encouraged. These learning resources will be made available and accessible to all students enrolled in the course at ETSU, to the ETSU community and to our global partners,
 A “24/7” access portal for international higher education law resources.

As an educator, practitioner, university administrator or student of the law are you desirous of finding pertinent information about issues pertaining to higher education law both locally and globally? Are you interested in becoming knowledgeable about aspects of social media, privacy rights, and legal decision making from a local, cross-cultural or global perspective? Do you have questions such as: Who owns the e-learning materials and resources that I create? What are the legal implications of ownership? Who can access my materials and use them, and under what conditions should I make it available to everyone?  Is it legal, is it practical?” Can I use my photos on facebook?” Am I infringing copyright law by using photos from my course on Facebook? Valuable legal resources, appropriate responses, blog contributions, discussion forums from students and practitioners in the field locally and internationally are provided in this app.
The global portal is designed not only to provide you with legal materials and tools that will be useful from a global and comparative higher education perspective, but is designed to teach you about the process of legal  decision-making from a higher education law perspective in the US and globally.   From time to time, we will be having online guest speakers in hub/network either  in the form of pre-recorded YouTube videos or synchronously in "real time"  who will comment on and add to specific topics in the global portal.
