Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi'i al-Qurasyi Muththalibi (Arabic: أبو عبد الله محمد بن إدريس الشافعي المطلبي القرشي) or simply the Imam ash-Shafi'i (Ashkelon, Gaza, Palestine, 150 H / 767 M - Fusthat, Egypt, 204 H / 819 AD) was a great mufti of Sunni Islam and is also the founder Shafi. Imam Shafi'i also classified as relatives of the Prophet, he was included in Muttalib, the descendant of al-Muttalib, brother of Hashim, who was the grandfather of Muhammad.

At the age of 20 years, Imam Shafi'i went to Medina to study with the great scholars at the time, Imam Malik. Two years later, he also went to Iraq, to sit under the disciples of Imam Hanafi there.

Imam Syafi`i has two basic different to the Shafi'i school of thought. The first name is Qaulun Qadim and Qaulun Jadid.
