About Remington Flyers Track Team

The Remington Track Flyers program was founded in April 1986 by Coach Walter Brown, starting with six girls ages 10-12. Through word of mouth the team grew in the next few months to twenty five members and by the following year the team had forty members. After winning their first track meet in Irvington, NY a coach suggested we formally become part of the USATF (at the time called TAC).

Our program focuses on developing each athlete’s unique talents, skills and interests. Our program is both instructional and competitive. All track and field events are taught except the pole vault and triple jump. Our athletes are elementary through middle school age. Over the years our athletes are 75% female and 25% male. Our coaches consist of former Flyer athletes that have high school, collegiate and master level experience.

Through the years the team’s motto has been "Running Towards the Future”. In addition to our team practicing and competing we have found it important that our athletes become well rounded persons willing to share their running talents with others in the community. Our team has sponsored annual track and field clinics. In addition the team conducts semi-annual community service relays to help agencies and organizations dealing with a myriad of issues such as Aids Awareness, Cancer, Asthma, Obesity, Homelessness, Poverty, Drug Awareness, Muscular Dystrophy, Autism, Diabetes and Infants addicted to drugs. Our community service relays have been highlighted by our 1990 run from New Rochelle to Washington, D.C. (242 Miles), 1991 run from New Rochelle to Albany, NY (140 miles); several 24 hour relays where our athletes didn’t stop running during this time period and our latest run from Washington DC (The White House) back to New Rochelle, NY (2012). As a result of these relays the team has contributed $15,000 to community agencies and has run a total of 4500 miles during these relays.

The program has been recognized by several elected officials such as Congresswoman Nita Lowey, Governor Mario Cuomo, State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer, State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, several New Rochelle Mayors and County Legislators just to name a few.

Our female athletes have competed at the Colgate Woman’s Games since 1988 winning a total of $54,000 in post high school scholarships. The team has competed at several National meets through AAU, USATF and UAGTCA. From Maine to Florida and as far away as Illinois. The program has received commendations and proclamations from State, County and local officials and organizations.
