My 59 Days Full: A true story!

During the Second World War, on April 19, 1944, my uncle, the late Major Eduardo M. Tajanlangit boldly organized and led a Philippine Army raid on a Japanese garrison, killing a great deal of Japanese soldiers, and spoiling the once-believed invincibility of the Japanese Imperial Army. Because of their defeat, the Japs were put to shame. And immediately my uncle became a most-wanted person.

Time passed and the Japs couldn’t find him. After two months of futile searching, they came up with a clever idea: on June 13, 1944, they broke into my father’s family home and herded his entire family, from his father (Don Clasico Tajanlangit), to his mother (Maria Tajanlangit) and his brothers and sisters, into a military truck and into detention in a Japanese fort as hostages in exchange for the surrender of his fugitive brother.

My father was just a teenager then.

Several decades later my father, Vic M Tajanlangit (now 87 years old), sat down to write the details of the gruesome 59 days they were held in captivity. On May 22, 1998, at the age of 70, he finally finished the book.

Just a few days ago I released his story in the form of an Android app in Google Play Store. You could be reading about, among other things, how Filipino prisoners were treated by our Japanese conquerors during the War. How miracles have occurred several times during the course of the story. You will be reading a detailed account of how my uncle successfully completed his mission to destroy the Japanese garrison. And many other narratives that will bring up two things: memories for the war survivors, and respect for them from today’s youth.
