What are users saying about AIM

AIM has been my my messenger of choice for nearly 20 years, and the mobile version has been equally effective and reliable. I don't question if it is going to stop working at a random basis, and the app itself has been stable and consistent in my experience. Some people think about going back to it, but I never thought to leave, these pastures are pretty green from where I'm sitting.

by M####:

This last update which took away the general status feed really ruined the app for me. The status feed brought a sense of openness and community which was the whole aim of AIM and now the app feels really closed off and isolated to me. It's these unwarranted and shortsighted changes that are preventing AIM from getting back to its former glory.

M70%
by M####:

The app is severely lacking since the update taking away the stream. There is an amazing FREE app called LINE it allows messaging and a stream to post on. I say make the switch. Also it is available to those outside of the US mobile unlike the change aim id soon making.

S70%
by S####:

Everyone is hating the new style of AIM. They all want the style you had for 7.5. I know you're growing, but with this 8.0 style, no one is going to use AIM anymore. ALOT of people who I know are now going to an messaging app called LINE where THERE IS a lifestream and everything else JUST LIKE THE 7.5 AIM gave us, and a whole lot more. I'm not just talking about AIM on mobile, but I'm ALSO talking about AIM on the desktop. AIM just sucks now and now I'm just gonna stick with this other messaging app because it's ALOT like the 7.5 AIM. If you'd like your AIM users to come back, you're gonna have to give the users what they want. If not, then what's the point of having AIM where no one is going to use?

M70%
by M####:

Honestly, I'm highly pissed off. I have been using aim since dial up AOL in the early 2000's. How dare you take away the status stream. Clearly, you are going to lose a LOT of customers. Have fun with that. Also, either reply with a genuine comment or not at all. I don't think wanna ready your copy and paste bullshit.

T70%
by T####:

It's a horrible update, and thus far is going the way it did when you changed the chat format. What I personally find worse, is you lack the basic dignity to even connect with your customer base. I scrolled through every review that's come in since the update, and thus far I've see the same copy and paste bullshit over and over. I get you have less money due to less traffic on your site, but is it really worth alienating an entire customer base? Whatever, if you're gonna cut the updates, I hope you use whatever money you save from that to get someone who can write a sincere reply to a customer.

M70%
by M####:

Wow I'm glad the replies are helpful messages about how they're decisions are so great. You guys suck, cutting off the status updates. Not to mention the fact that you're also supposedly closing this off from everywhere but the US? Wtf

F70%
by F####:

This new update is very disappointing. The status feed happened to be one of my favorite things because it allowed everyone to be open with one another and post silly/daily life comments. Everything about AIM is completely useless to us now. I will definitely be deleting this app.

O70%
by O####:

Stop sending the same generic response that shows you don't care. Especially when you app still has all the same issues. Nothing was fixed in this new update. I have perfect connection but yet my app says I am not connected and won't send messages. It has a lag that takes so long to send one message someone can send me 6 different messages. At times my chats all pop up blank or messages people are sending I do not get until hours later. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing is fixed!

S70%
by S####:

Years ago AOL tried to force a chat room change on us. We didn't go for it and the old chat room format returned to what it is now. Growth doesn't mean alienating your loyal followers. Dumb move. We can always stop payments, stop coming to your site and impact your bottom line. Perhaps April Fools Day may show the power of AIM / AOL subscribers if the issues aren't resolved.

Q70%
by Q####:

Load screen on chat list requires me to wait like 30 each time. This wasn't a thing before, and I don't quite like it. It's a really annoying thing. I used AIM because chatting was quick; and now it's, like, time-consuming.

A70%
by A####:

I love this app but with the new android update, I get a little notification every time I get or send an IM that says "links may not work because the Android system is updating". I've tried reinstalling twice, but it still happens. And it's very annoying.

T70%
by T####:

I received a message back in February telling me that the version I was using would be disappearing in March. So I upgraded. Now I got the same message again, but according to Google play I don't have any updates. I really like AIM, but I don't like being scared by messages that aren't accurate. Am I missing an update, or is it a generic push message regardless of what version you're using? Thanks. Edit: thanks for the generic copy pasted response, devs. A+ answering questions.

M70%
by M####:

I've had this app for years, and it never worked right. Sign-in would hang, and the app would constantly lose connectivity. Well, YOU GUYS FINALLY FIXED THE APP! Nice. It works they way it should. Awesome.

M70%
by M####:

I loved aim and still do but the phone app for my android is horrible. Itll load and try to sign in forever. Ive started to hate that blue loading screen. No problems with my computer or ipad app though. Just my android

Z70%
by Z####:

complained about notifications ages ago, AIM didn't listen. after discontinuing support for older versions, it's time to move on. sorry AIM, you're not relevant in 2017. better take what your die-hards say to heart cause they're all you have

I70%
by I####:

Pissed off that the status feed is gone now. So how the hell do we know if someone is online? Go stalk them? Bring the damn feed back.

M70%
by M####:

took away the feed. feels like there's no point. there's a huge community of people who enjoyed and even relied on having it. saying youre a growing and changing company is nonsense. not because its not true, but because your priorities are clearly skewed. i hate to say it, but at this rate, AIM is going to end up losing a lot of people and end up eventually shutting down completely like MSN did years ago.

M70%
by M####:

Getting rid of status updates on aim was the stupidest thing to do aim. Thank you for cutting me off from my friends near completely since I only can use aim mobile at the moment. Way to go. You guys deserve a slow round of applause.

Z70%
by Z####:

Great but sometimes not great. I dislike how at times it won't save what I sent to someone even though I have the "on the record" option on. That or how sometimes it will disconnect on it's own. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall a few times.. Not happy with how the app doesn't always want to work properly.

M70%
by M####:

You guys suck. I've been using aim my whole life. If you don't bring back stream..millions of users will quit aim and never use it. Big mistake. Line is officially better. Idiots.

Z70%
by Z####:

Taking away the feed was a dumb choice. Not only was it pointless and no one likes it, but we only get generic, canned responses from aim, no real answers.

B70%
by B####:

I still see a 1 as if I have a new message. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it didn't help make it go away. Is there anything else I can do?

M70%
by M####:

What ever happened to multiple log in? I have my life separated into different accounts. I can't utilize this app for personal or business if I can't multiple log in or join AOL account names.

J70%
by J####:

Ever since they removed the status stream and limited to u.s. users the app has gone downhill. The sense of community between users has shifted to one of isolation. The status dots are unreliable and frankly I'm not going to message someone who is green when they could very well still be busy. The status stream was great for that; if someone was posting here but not here then the point was clear, proceed at your own risk.

C70%
by C####:

After the new update, aim took away the statuses thus in my opinion ruining the app. It doesn't function any better to me. The only thing is aim took away a feature that their customers loved. Aim is horrible now. Download any other messenger like line instead.

M70%
by M####:

Hate this new version of AIM and plan to undo this upgrade you forced onto us. Stop trying to fix what doesn't need fixing and you guys MIGHT actually stop pissing people off.

M70%
by M####:

YOU CAN REMOVE THE LIFESTREAM BUT YOU CANT FIX THE DAMN PROBLEM WITH THE DEFAULT PICTURES BECOMING ALL PIXELY WHEN CHANGING THE PICTURE ON AN ANDROID PHONE. GET IT TOGETHER.

M70%
by M####:

I could bear the irritating problem with double messages which required me to sign out and sign in again multiple times a day (often even failing to fix the problem that way, but it was bearable). However, then came the forced update to remove the feed. You should probably listen to everyone and just bring it back, one way or another. Don't bother with the copy+paste reply, by the way. Really isn't charming that that's apparently your way of dealing with criticism from users of your app, either.

M70%
by M####:

AIM updated and now I don't have an alert when someone messages me and it was there before the update. No... it isn't on silent. It's on classic AIM bumper. And it keeps crashing... very annoying. Fix please.

M70%
by M####:

No wonder AIM is no longer popular. I have been trying to log in for 15 minutes and still not in. Used to love AIM.

M70%
by M####:

Highly disappointed you guys took the stream off completely instead of improving it good luck with your attempt to update your product aim you just succeeded in pissing off a lot of users especially mobile users but it is what it is it's just a shame is all as the stream is what made aim awesome

E70%
by E####:

I think it is easy should have been done a long time ago. I always love aim because people actually want to talk on it, instead of just adding tou then nothing. Very good for me indeed.

M70%
by M####:

Getting rid of the status stream was the dumbest thing you ever did. Forcing people to update when they kept the older versions because of the stream is sad. You're gonna lose so many customers by doing this, EVERYONE IS DISPLEASED. BRING BACK THE STREAM!!!

M70%
by M####:

You are so backwards. Bring the status stream back. About to be done with aim after being with it for 10+years. Get a clue.

Z70%
by Z####:

Why can't I see my status updates? Please bring them back. A lot of people are griping that we don't have the status stream especially on mobile.

D70%
by D####:

The new update on this app is awful. It looks better, but utter trash.

M70%
by M####:

THEY TOOK AWAY THE STATUS FEATURE. now I might as well use Google hangouts.

F70%
by F####:

Bring statues stream back. Like why bring it back then take it away. ;3

N70%
by N####:

I have been using this app for a few years now and it just recently started having major issues. Won't stay connected, won't give notifications, will show that messages have sent even though they haven't. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but I am still having these issues.
