公元前六世纪，释迦牟尼佛创立佛教。 数千年来， 佛教普渡众生， 教化人间， 而渊远流长， 发扬光大。 当代佛光山开山宗长星云大师， 秉承佛陀本怀， 致力创建人间佛教， 在世界各地广设道场， 新加坡也倍受福泽。
因缘聚会， 众缘成就， 一九九三年国际佛光会新加坡佛光协会成立。 为进一步落实会务、 弘扬理念与开拓实践， 佛光山海外都监院院长慈庄法师， 衔星云大师师命， 南来新加坡寻觅弘法的据点。 经慈庄法师多方奔走， 终于在一九九六年十二月八日， 假东海岸路上段成立新加坡佛光缘滴水坊。 至此， 不但慈悲喜舍的佛家种子， 又多了一处生根的福地， 更实践了星云大师一袭袈裟， 万般慈愍的悲愿：「佛光普照三千界，法水长流五大洲」。
为使薪火相传，佛光永续，星云大师自一九九六年起，数度应邀莅临新加坡，妙转无上法轮。 星云大师说法博大精湛，深入浅出，带动年轻一代修学佛法的热潮。 在解行并重、三学修持的理念推动下，社会各界反应热烈，皈依信徒日渐增多，原有道场的空间显得狭窄局促。 发展所趋，一九九八年再次迁移至巴耶里巴路的ACE工业大厦六楼，继续为佛法立心，为众生立命。
二零零零年，新加坡佛光山正式注册成立。 承蒙佛力加被， 于二零零四年成功标得占地两千平方米的榜鹅新寺地。 二零零五年四月十七日， 恭请星云大师及国防部部长张志贤先生主持寺院安基典礼， 十方护法善信欢喜见证。 二零零六年二月十三日举行启建工程仪式， 于二零零七年十月竣工启用。
为落实星云大师 寺院本土化 的弘愿，以及佛法与本土文化的融合，新道场内设有佛殿、客堂、斋堂、抄经堂、西方堂、多功能教室、滴水坊、露天广场、停车场等设施。 道场设计采取高科技与艺术风格，充分发挥弘法利生、净化人心与教化社会的功能。 在佛光普照微尘剎中，让佛堂展现无上言教，成为大众端坐自性中道实相的莲台。让一切有情无情同沾法益，实践佛陀弘法利生的大业。
