Lighter and faster than books! I love this app for identifying birds and for logging sightings. As a novice, I cannot tell a thrush from a wren from a vireo, yet I can quickly ID new-to-me birds with this app just the same. A simple query by size, color, location and season returns a list pared down to the usual culprits, all of who have multiple photos and notes about key markings. With several audio samplings of each bird, and links to similar suspects for thoroughness, I can normally be sure of a positive ID in just minutes.

by Q####:

Once you find the bird your looking for, the program is pretty good. The search function is awful. Maybe if I was a birding expert and knew all the technical parts of birds I could use the search function. But looking up even simple, common birds is a pain

K70%
by K####:

Pretty exhaustive and useful advance search, but a few issues like everytime i try to manually add a location for a sighting the screen goes to NY even though it has my location and should be able to add a park/ location to follow.

K70%
by K####:

All it does is freeze and lock-up. Doing anything within the app takes several seconds to a minute for some kind of response from the app.

P70%
by P####:

Love this app, great resource to have in the field! Best 5$ I ever spent.Only complaint I have is that it's difficult to close the app and sometimes need to force stop.

K70%
by K####:

Not that bad...However if you ever sign in to keep track of your sightings, do NOT lose or forget your password. Customer Support is non existant. I have been waiting several weeks for help in resetting and no response.

K70%
by K####:

Worthless. The birds I am looking at do not appear in results. There were quail in my yard so a search for quail did not return the most common quail there is. Thanks to a Google search for quail I searched in the app for "Northern Bobwhite" and there it was under the heading New World Quail. Even then at first there were no results because I had to remove the space at the end that spellchecker adds. Maybe a good app for ornitholigists who already know everything but useless for novice hobbiest. The quail example is only the latest frustration. Every time I try to use this app I have a similar experience. Merlin by Cornell is no better

K70%
by K####:

Crashes and will never connect. Could be a great app if all the bugs are ever fixed.

F70%
by F####:

Too hard to use. Not very intuitive. Difficult to ad a sighting. Not sure I will continue using it.

K70%
by K####:

Not user friendly. Can't add birds to my list. It only wants to make new lists. Can't change sightings from New York.

I70%
by I####:

Extremely difficult to navigate. Impossible to verify email address.

K70%
by K####:

Attach photo for add sighting doesn't work. S7 running Android 7.0.

K70%
by K####:

Keeps saying check your Internet connection now worked great before update

K70%
by K####:

I am a bird carver, do life size birds in wood, detailed feathering and painting, mostly birds of prey, owls, and songbirds. This app helps researching

K70%
by K####:

Difficult to use, location identity was useless.

T70%
by T####:

Lots of info. Easy to use.

Z70%
by Z####:

Love this!!!

K70%
by K####:

Best birding app I have tried. Could only be better if they refined the search to zip code to retrieve results that are most likely to be found in your area. Merlin does this but is not as informative as this app. I love that I it gives the option to look at similar birds as the one you saw to compare.

K70%
by K####:

Quick to get used to, great identification aids and a good amount of extra background information, too, beyond just ID. Lots of high quality photographs - maybe an average of 4 to 6 for each species, many of them simply exquisite - AND multiple sound recordings for each species! (The SD card issues seem to be fixed now, too.)

K70%
by K####:

I like the amount of information I have access to. Very informative. But I always have problems trying to post things. Will only use a picture I snap on the spot. Will not allow use of photo gallery even though it says it does. Also has some location glitches. I contacted customer service but they insist it all works well. Not on my phone it doesn't.

K70%
by K####:

This is the most irritating app I have ever used. Every action I take says my Internet connection was interrupted. I added pictures I took of birds to my sightings and they all turned into the same picture. It will not allow me to edit the post or delete it because it says "Internet connection interrupted" this has been a problem with this app for about a year. Good bye Audubon Hello Cornell.

Had the old paid version on my last phone that needed 500-2000mb of space. Got a new phone, and this version won't open. Gives DB error. Phone has unified storage, so I can't move the app off of the SD card. Where did paid app go? I want that back.

K70%
by K####:

Like the app but it keeps telling me connection lost. Everything else I have works fine. Iits not a connection problem. Decided this doesn't even rate one star. I suggest someone can put this app where the sun doesn't shine.

K70%
by K####:

I've had this app since 2011 with no problems and loved it. I've learned a lot from it, last couple months it's telling me lost Internet connection. Getting frustrated with this issue, please fix

N70%
by N####:

Good bird list. It's horrible that I can't create custom sighting points though and for some reason the search by state feature won't let me change it from New York.

J70%
by J####:

Can't use it without internet connection. Completely useless. Uninstalled. Don't waste your time

K70%
by K####:

Location based searching is garbage. I downloaded this to assist in identification of birds in my state and despite entering in the search criteria it still shows species that never even come close to the state I'm in. If that's what you're hoping for, don't bother.

C70%
by C####:

Don't know why we have to get in touch with admin for the "loss of connection..." lots of potential, fix the glitch

K70%
by K####:

Right after installing it, I tried opening this app and it put up a warning message that said there was "serious problems" with the app.

K70%
by K####:

After download, I have to register my email address but keep getting a message that I have no internet connection, which is not so. I can't even get into the app hence the 1 star. Very disappointed as it looked good in the store.

K70%
by K####:

This app works great on my phone . . . but it stopped working on my tablet when it was upgraded to Android Marshmallow (6.0.1) . . . . and I've gotten no answer from Audubon :-( If I can get it working again, it''s worth lots more stars

K70%
by K####:

Used to work, now it's useless. The app will not open. All I get is a DB error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. Please fix this issue.

K70%
by K####:

I click a photo to add from my gallery but nothing actually happens, doesn't seem to be working. Otherwise I love the app.

K70%
by K####:

Would not accept email address for setup and I was not about to setup a Facebook account to use this app. Why can't a app like this run without a login anyways?

A70%
by A####:

Used to work great, but now "Internet connection lost...." Crikey, what happened?

K70%
by K####:

It seems like it could be a great resource if they would just fix the loss of Internet error!

M70%
by M####:

Awesome app! It works great for me and I like that you can download bird information to use offline.

K70%
by K####:

Bird calls are great! Can actually get birds nearby to join in the conversation. Great App!

Great app for beginner birdwatchers. Easy to use with plenty of info, and great filters. Would love a similar app for butterflies.
