Islam sebagai agama, telah dijadikan sebagai fenomena sosial sekaligus menjadi daya dorong kehidupan ataupun sebagai pattern of reference dalam kehidupan. Dengan demikian Islam sebagai agama merupakan petunjuk dari Allah swt yang tertuang dalam bentuk kaidah-kaidah perundangan yang ditujukan kepada orang-orang yang berakal budi, supaya mereka mampu berusaha di jalan yang benar dalam rangka memperoleh kebahagiaan hidup di dunia dan akhirat nanti. Karena itu agama bukanlah produk pemunculan getaran hati manusia sendiri, melainkan perwujudan kehendak Tuhan yang dijabarkan dalam bentuk petunjuk dan bimbingan untuk kehidupan manusia di alam nyata dan di alam metefisis.
