Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam memperingatkan umatnya untuk kembali ingat dan segera melaksanakan shalat gerhana, memperbanyak bacaan dzikir, istighfar, doa, sedekah, bertaubat dan amal-amal shalih lain ketika terjadi peristiwa gerhana baik gerhana bulan dan matahari.

Dalam sebuah hadits shahih Rasulullah SAW bersabda:
Sesungguhnya matahari dan bulan adalah bukti tanda-tanda kekuasaan Allah. Sesungguhnya keduanya tidak mengalami gerhana karena kematian seseorang, dan tidak pula karena hidupnya seseorang.
Oleh karena itu, bila kalian melihatnya, maka berdoalah kepada Allah, bertakbirlah, shalat dan bersedekahlah.(Muttafaqun ‘alaihi).
