About Messages from Pope Francis

Messages from the Pope is the only instant messaging app for Catholics that notifies you each time the Holy Father sends a message to the world. Follow the path of his Holiness into making the world a better place for everyone.

Pope Francis (Latin: Franciscus; Italian: Francesco; born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 17 December 1936) is the reigning pope of the Catholic Church, in which capacity he is both Bishop of Rome and absolute Sovereign of the Vatican City State.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Bergoglio worked briefly as a chemical technician and nightclub bouncer before beginning seminary studies. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1969 and from 1973 to 1979 was Argentina's Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus. He became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and was created a cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.

Following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI on 28 February 2013, a papal conclave elected Bergoglio as his successor on 13 March. He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. Francis is the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere and the first non-European pope since the Syrian Gregory III in 741, 1,272 years earlier.

Throughout his public life, both as an individual and as a religious leader, Pope Francis has been noted for his humility, his concern for the poor and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs and faiths. He is known for having a simpler and less formal approach to the papacy, most notably by choosing to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse rather than the papal apartments of the Apostolic Palace used by his predecessors. In addition, due to both his Jesuit and Ignatian aesthetic, he is known for favoring simpler vestments void of ornamentation, including refusing the traditional papal mozzetta cape upon his election, choosing silver instead of gold for his piscatory ring, and keeping the same pectoral cross he had when he was cardinal.

The Pontiff has affirmed Catholic doctrine on abortion, artificial contraception, and homosexuality. Whilst maintaining the Church's teaching against homosexual acts, he has said that gay people should not be marginalized. As a cardinal, he opposed same-sex marriage in Argentina. In addition, he maintains that he is a "son of the Church" regarding loyalty to Church doctrine, and has spoken against abortion as "horrific", suggested that women be valued not clericalized. Summarily Pope Francis reiterates that "It is absurd to say you follow Jesus Christ but reject the Church."

Accordingly, he urged Bishop Charles J. Scicluna of Malta to speak out against adoption by same-sex couples,[17][18] maintained that divorced and re-married Catholics may not receive the Eucharist,[19][20] and excommunicated a former Catholic priest for Eucharistic sacrilege and heretical views.[21][22] Furthermore, he emphasized the Christian obligation to assist the poor and the needy in an optimistic tone, as well as promoting peace negotiations and interfaith dialogue.[23][24][25][26][7] Pope Francis has also announced a zero-tolerance policy towards sex abuse in the Church, saying that sex abuse was "as bad as performing a satanic mass."[27][28][29]

I enjoy reading a daily statement from Pope Francis. He is a true inspiration, and a blessing. The app has an option to write to him, and I am planning to do that someday soon. No change since the last time I was asked to rate the app. I did write to him once, but he never responded. That doesn't change my opinion of him, though. I continue to be inspired, and will download the app on my next phone.

This app is a true joy. My little two and half year old will see the Pope Francis picture and say, "Papa Frankie!" I will then read his message aloud to her. It is nice way read and share a message of hope and unity from a true disciple of Jesus. In this age of ever growing madness, both at home and aboard, I am thankful to have words of comfort and wisdom available from Pope Francis.

Why is this app wanting to know phone number information? Apps should have the least amount of permissions they need to run. They shouldn't be needing to get information that isn't needed for the app.

Just a nice icon. Other than the great picture, this app displays a generic one sentence quote and 4 larger links to non-Catholic causes, all on one screen. A very poor attempt apparently intended to draw Catholics away from the faith.

D70%
by D####:

Might quote the Pope but its links to anti Catholic links makes me suspicious. They contradict our faith. I found all the "How to get heaven and how to know You are Saved" false or half doctrines, Billy Graham? Really? My Pope quote never changed. But the protestant links worked.

While it must be a support staff who writes these one liners, I would like to think they are spiritually inspired such that at the point when I read it the phrase is just what I needed at the moment. I don't care about ads as one grows to ignore such things with free apps.

D70%

Knowing how rich (monetary) the Catholic Church is, I'm appalled that this app is covered with ads. Uninstalling NOW. Shame on you for forcing us to see ads in order to receive the messages.

The Twitter feed is nice but you can get that and more with the Pope App or on Twitter itself. Will be removing since it is redundant.

At first I loved this app. It provided a daily inspired quote from our dear Pope. But for the past 2 weeks or more , the same quote has appeared everyday. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling hoping that would "refresh" it but it didn't work. Such a disappointment for an app that was once so inspiring.

I mainly give Pope Francis 5 stars the app not so much while not terrible it is lacking in features like it would be nice to be able to see past messages and have a different picture of Pope Francis each day and maybe some pictures of the Vatican too would be great.

D70%

Would be 5, but does repeat same message from day before sometimes. But thank you and bless you.Have a GREAT Christmas and New Year.

Better resources out there, for instance EWTN. I don't like apps with advertisements, and this app shows ads at the top AND bottom of the screen.

X70%
by X####:

You will only see one picture of the Pope and one message for the day. Nothing else to do. Can't go back to the previous days for the previous quotes. Can't use offline.

Can get the same info by following him on social media apps.
