วิชชาธรรมกายเป็นวิธีปฏิบัติตามแนวสติปัฏฐาน 4 มีวิธีปฏิบัติอย่างเป็นขั้นตอนชัดเจน ให้ถึงธรรมกาย ให้เกิดอภิญญา และวิชชา คือความรู้ความสามารถพิเศษ ได้แก่ วิชชา 3 วิชชา 8 (รวมอภิญญา 6) ชื่อว่า "วิชชาธรรมกาย" ให้เข้าถึงและรู้เห็นกายในกาย เวทนาในเวทนา จิตในจิต และธรรมในธรรม สามารถให้ทั้งเห็นและทั้งรู้สภาวธรรมทั้งสังขารและวิสังขารคือพระนิพพาน และเป็นทั้งสมถะและวิปัสสนากัมมัฏฐานคู่กัน เป็นพื้นฐานสำคัญแก่การเจริญวิปัสสนาปัญญาถึงโลกุตตรปัญญา ได้อย่างดี จึงเป็นวิธีปฏิบัติที่มีประสิทธิภาพมากที่สุดวิธีหนึ่ง
