About RaMBLE - Bluetooth LE Mapper

RaMBLE is a proof of concept application for scanning, logging and mapping Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices such as iBeacons and fitness trackers. For more information on Bluetooth low energy see our blog: http://goo.gl/WxfbX7

The scanner runs in the background and logs all indirect advertising packets and scan responses received from BLE devices in range. All data is logged into a database that can be exported to the SD card, or imported from an existing database file. It does not connect to any devices found.

It requires a phone or tablet that supports Bluetooth Low Energy, aka Bluetooth Smart. It also requires Android 5.0 or higher.

A list of devices that support BLE can be found here: http://goo.gl/2X3feH

Although this app's use may be questionable it will force manufacturers and developers to keep our data more secure and personal.

This is a great proof of concept & I am pleasantly surprised to see updates to it. It would be great to see custom field(s) for storing notes &/or additional info. Also a feature request: notification if a previously favorited/bookmarked Bluetooth device is in range. Basically if a favorited device's MAC address shows up in a current scan alert/notify the user. I am doing this now manually by comparing deltas in exports. Context, keep up the important & great work.

I was familiar with this app, and I've used it for conversations about wearable security. Earlier tonight, my wife lost her Fitbit in the yard, after a day of yard work. I sent her a link to the store, and she found her Fitbit in about ten minutes, in the dark, buried under about two inches of mulch.

I've been looking for an app that logs and maps BLE devices on a map, and this is exactly what I had in mind. RaMBLE is a fantastic display of BLE technology. I look forward to seeing future development from Context Information Security.

War drove a busy suburban centre. Found hundreds of Bluetooth devices all nicely mapped with GPS coordinates. From sports bands to phones and laptops. Wondered how many, if any, utilize strong encryption. Then wondered if anyone could watch my Fitbit leave home then loot the place of devices and valuables of which they made a checklist. Wrapped myself in tin foil.

I read about this app on Slashdot. After downloading to my Note 4, I tried scanning and using the Google mapping feature. All I get is a blank screen and no map after finding several devices.

You can see the Bluetooth around you but the map feature is a fail

I am a little torn on how to rate this app. I rated it 5 because it is important for people to know about the security concerns but want to rate 1 for same reasons.
