About ColdSnap! Frost Alarm

ColdSnap! helps you prepare for the weather by warning you of low/high temperatures forecast or when the current observed temperature falls outside the range you set. ColdSnap! stays out of sight until it's time to warn you to clear your screen in the morning, grit the driveway, cover up with horticultural fleece, or turn the heated propagators on.

You choose where to source your weather data from. Select from NOAA, Weather Underground, World Weather Online or UK MetOffice, so if one provider isn't accurate for your specific location, there are others to choose from.

Main Features
- 1x1 Widget for Home Screen showing Current Forecast, or most Imminent Warning
- Notifies you when the forecast temperature or current temperature drops below a set level
- Global (pretty much!) forecast data from either World Weather Online or Weather Underground but also NOAA for US and Met Office for UK
- Ability to set the number of days ahead that you wish to check the forecast for
- Configure up to 4 locations to watch
- Configure your own schedule and which notifications to receive
- 14 Day History of Observed Temperature
- Farenheit/Celsius Support
- German & French Language Support

If you have an idea you want to see implemented, have trouble with the app or just want some general help, please contact me via the email at the bottom of this page or on the about screen within the app. I welcome contact from my users and will endeavor to resolve any issues (there is no facility in Google Play for me to help you in response to rating feedback).

Good ratings attract new users which will lead to more features for you! (Market->My Apps->ColdSnap!->My Review / Rate It!)

Who's it for?
ColdSnap! Frost Alarm is a must have application for gardeners, allotment holders and anyone else that wants a low maintenance, light weight frost warning system.
I produced the application specifically to warn myself of impending low temperatures having had our permaculture project in 2010 suffer frost damage as a result of a late frost. ColdSnap! is not intended to be a full blown weather app and does not replace your existing weather application or widgets. It is a lightweight application that, once installed and configured, you never need look at again.

Rely on ColdSnap! to check the forecast even when you forget. I use it myself, so you can be sure it’ll continue to be maintained.
ColdSnap! is perfect for all outdoor pursuits, ideal for fair-weather sailors planning a sailing weekend, fair-weather campers planning a camping trip, those with animals, livestock and poultry that need protection from low temperatures.

Protect those precious grape vines! If you're an amateur viticulturist like me, this is a must have app if you need reminding to cover up to save those first shoots of the year!

Farmers, drivers, rail companies, facilities managers, estate managers can all benefit! Having commuted into London for many years, how I wished my rail operator had been forewarned of ice on the track
What's it for?
ColdSnap! Frost Alarm is a simple but effective way to ensure you are notified of low temperatures forecast in your area.

What's it do?
Nothing...until you need it to!
ColdSnap! Frost Alarm will periodically check the weather forecast and produce notifications whenever a low temperature is forecast.

Once the app has been run once, you never need look at it again. You can rely on ColdSnap! to do the checking.
ColdSnap! will even restart automatically if you restart your mobile, so months down the line when you've forgotten to keep an eye on the forecast, rest assured that ColdSnap! hasn't.

Total waste! Never has worked. Some teenager bilking for cash I guess. Poor design too. Too bad this could be a good useful tool.

Q70%
by Q####:

I have been looking for something exactly like this. All I wanted was something to tell me when temperatures dropped below freezing so I knew when to cover my rose bushes and citrus trees. This is exactly that. Could use a little polish, but functions well and delivers what is promised.

Q70%
by Q####:

Would be perfect if you could offer SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) as a weather forecast provider!

Q70%
by Q####:

Seems to be working now, didn't make any changes on my end, but developer offered to help when problem was reported. For that, good customer service, and now app is a good app for me.

K70%
by K####:

The app itself works fine, never fails to alert me. However the information it gives isn't accurate. I live in the UK so I have it set for the UK Met office. As an example, I've had an alert all week warning me that it will be -1 degrees Celsius tomorrow morning. I should be looking for an alternative way to get to work as I normally use a motorcycle. But I can relax as I know it's wrong and will in fact be 4 degrees Celsius and raining. I've tried the other sources in the settings and they're even worse.

Q70%
by Q####:

Great app but unfortunately I really struggle to see the data, would be nice if the font size could be increased in size.

Met Office provider doesn't work, refunding.

Q70%

Waste of a couple of bucks!

Q70%

Nothing but network errors and an ugly interface.

Q70%
by Q####:

Constant errors, frost last night killed several plants

B70%
by B####:

Has been giving me a network error lately. Worked great until recently

Q70%
by Q####:

Finally bought, seems to work, shame have to enter locations as gps coordinates, especially when i am pretty sure met office api has location name to coordinate type functions now so it should be easy to allow name entry with a list of closest matches appearing like the weather app have.

Q70%
by Q####:

Had this over a month. All I get are network errors, set it to alert me when below 34, last night was 29 and no alert sounded. I emailed the developer, made sure the email was correct, and got a failed to deliver message from my email. Don't waste your money.

Q70%
by Q####:

Wonderful. I have electric storage heating, and to get the best results in Spring and autumn I need to set the amount of charge for the coming night to match the expected temperature tomorrow. This app helps me get it right, saving money and keeping warm. It also shows an expected temperature trend, which means the heating can be switched off altogether, or needs to be back on for a cold spell.

Interface isn't good but i wanted this for functionality. Did some tests to make sure it was working (eg less than 25 degrees at 10am) and it worked fine. First frost came but no alert. Ran tests again successfully. 2nd frost: no alert. Ran tests again. 3rd frost: no alert. Maybe it switches itself off???

D70%
by D####:

Why can't I just enter a zip code and get info for my own locale?

M70%
by M####:

From several alerts a day in the first week, I've had none - over a particularly frosty period. Refund please.

I have a collection of outdoor carnivorous plants. This app let's me know ahead of time when the temperature may raise or lower to my preset temperatures. Try it!

Something to remind me to bring the plants in when gets close to freezing is just what I've been looking for. The only criticism I have is, I wish the forecast was for longer than 4 days (useful if away from home and give time to get back)

Great app! It's going to save my peppers, eventually. I live in Phoenix and we DO get frost sometimes between Dec-Feb, and I think it's great that Antony made a high-temp notification as well. Can't have kids playing outside for too long in 120°F! I had one support question and Antony responded with a professional, accurate reply in just a few hours. Cool guy, cool app!

It does what is sets out to do, nothing more nothing less. That is admirable. Could use a graphical overhaul, especially the widget.

Says error under location.... take it that means that it doesn't work... don't normally pay for apps either!

H70%
by H####:

Useless for the purpose I purchased it for. It will not monitor and issue alerts based on current temps, only forecasts. The functionality to do so is in the app, it's just that none of the weather providers supported will report the observed current temp in the U.S. May be different elsewhere. Also, the developer website link appears dead.

So far, it looks pretty good. Would be cool to be able to use multiple providers and alert if any prediction guys my criteria. The providers differ.
