About Work Sampling App
Work Sampling is an Industrial Engineering tool that can be used in a variety of ways. For the purposes of this app it could be used to determine how much value added work is actually within a process being performed. On a general basis the observer can observe a number of staff performing tasks that can be classified using the Lean manufacturing definition of waste, or value added work elements. The information can be downloaded into an excel spreadsheet for analysis and for development into a graph.
The observer would first initiate the study by entering the activities that could be observed during the performing of the work elements within the process studied. The observer enter the number of operators that would be observed and the time interval to be used. The observer would then run the study and at the beginning of each time interval identify the task being performed by each staff member observed using the appropriate radio button. At the conclusion of the study the observer would complete the study. The observer could then download the study to a CSV file that can be imported to the excel file. At this point the observer could be analyzed and a graph could be developed.
The study can be used to provide a general breakdown of value add work elements and non value add work elements and waste.
