About LightMeter Free

I've made this app for real old school photographers or advanced amateurs shooting analog photography. I always give the first version for free without limitations, but improvements, new features and users requests are only made for the paid version. For the price of a soda you will support hundreds of hours of work and will get more features and improvements.

LightMeter's reflected light meter only works with devices that are able to save exif data. Incident light meter should work on any device, but it is usually insufficient for real photographers.

Be advised that the precission and quality of this and all phone light meters is limited by the device itself. I recommend using the reflected light option, the precission can be really good.

Features:

-Incident light metering (needs light sensor)
-Reflected light metering (needs camera, only a few are compatible)
-Spot measure if camera has zoom.
-Support for all screens, including extra high resolution.
-Want more? get the noAds version, this one only gets bug fixes updates. And the noAds version gets real improvements like: Better performance than LightMeter Free, Camera sound can be muted. (not in all countries), Exif and sensor info on screen optionally, Incident light metering hold, Alternative ISO selector, State and ISO recall on resume, and much more as long as I keep getting downloads. Currently I'm getting support from 0.016% of the users. Thank you!

If you need help email me at davidquiles@me.com (Spanish and English)

App permissions: The app uses the standard permissions for an ad based app that uses the camera and light sensor. There is plenty of info about this on google search so you can check. AdMob is used.

Thanks for your support

What are users saying about LightMeter Free

by F####:

I saw this app and thought I'd give it a try. I've been a keen photographer for years, so have a handheld light meter. I'm afraid to say that the app didn't agree with the meter reading. Also it doesn't handle flash metering. So I think my trusty Polaris meter will still be hung around my neck at weddings and other events for the foreseeable future.

G70%
by G####:

I didn't test it against a proper Sekonic lightmeter but all the pictures I took with my film camera are spot on. I like the app a lot. Just a quick comment to the developer though: would it be possible to change the colours of whole seconds to orange? I think that's the standard on most cameras and lightmeters, sub-seconds are white and whole seconds orange. Plus that'll eliminate some minor confusions about repeating numbers on the main dial.

T70%
by T####:

The light meter functions work, but the app resets all settings everytime it's opened, as well as every time the phone is opened with the app still running. This makes it unusable at a moments notice, as everything must be reentered every single time. If the iso were to remain and the last mode used remained active it would be worth five stars

U70%
by U####:

My Motorola Moto G measured within 0.3 stops of my Sekonic in normal lighting conditions. In very dark conditions it was not even close but that's just a limitation of my phone.

F70%
by F####:

work reasonable well on nexus 6p (not on list), except it seems to be 2 stop over when i do reflective metering, cross checked with 5D3 and NEX7. (which is fine, i just bump ISO 2 stop over and it's almost dead on, or simply bump 2 stop in my mind) Love the idea of spot metering with "zoom" suggestion: add option to adjust offset.. (in this case 2 stops) and also if the app can can save the setting (i.e. ISO jump back to 100 every time app restarted) it would be nice

Z70%
by Z####:

Everything was excellent. It will be more helpful if user can adjust the light meter a little bit, on my phone I need to add 2.5 stops (ISO 640 for the real ISO 100) and it will work correctly.

V70%
by V####:

When I got it to match my meters (adjusting the ISO) got very inconsistent readings in bright vs. low light conditions proved to be unreliable.

D70%
by D####:

I don't understand this app. Settings ISO is easy but it doesn't help with setting aperture. Useless

Z70%
by Z####:

Been shooting film for years. Using a light meter is a necessity. This app keeps one less item from taking up space in my camera bag. Highly recommended

Z70%
by Z####:

It's probably not the easiest thing to understand for people with little knowledge. The app starts in iridescent mode, which is useless to me. It doesn't do anything really when I try to use it, however - switching to radial and zooming relative to my focal length. (About half way seems to be about 50mm) and clicking measure, I get an almost accurate reading, within a stop of my Canon A-1. I didn't think this app worked at all until I managed to do a controlled test. Try it and see, if you're having trouble

Z70%
by Z####:

Beautiful app and would gladly pay to get the ads out :) I understand its accuracy it is relative to the hardware we use, but that wouldn't stop me from trying it anyways as it is fun to use

Z70%
by Z####:

Versatile light meter. No gimmicks just measures light and reads exposure value's

Z70%
by Z####:

Seems like it doesn't work. I switch to r mode but it switch back when I release the button... s7 edge carrier free. Anyway nice wish I could use in r mode.

T70%
by T####:

Using a nexus 6 and it matches the reading of my light meter. It didn't work on my co-workers' LG LS740 so it gets 3 stars

Z70%
by Z####:

Is this thing supposed to be accurate? I've tested it against my cameras and it seems to register pretty hot.

I70%
by I####:

As simple as my Luna six meter, but if it can measure flash then it's much better

Z70%
by Z####:

Sadly the meter seems off a bit in sunny conditions. It obviously isn't aware of the f16 ISO 100 100th of a second norm.

Z70%
by Z####:

According to it, in broad daylight at iso 3200 I'd have to expose for half a second on f 22

Z70%
by Z####:

Perfect, accurate readings comparing to my d200, shooting film and most importantly works with my Moto X Force. will be buying the paid version.

Z70%
by Z####:

I suggest this app to all my customers who need a great light meter at the photo store I work at.

Z70%
by Z####:

It does work. Think I'll get the paid version. Thanks

Z70%
by Z####:

Seems spot on using it with my Samsung Galaxy s5. Been using it for over a year, lots of rolls of film. I am going to buy the pro version. O think then you can calculate it with a real light meter

Z70%
by Z####:

Please add a help manual, looks really effective

N70%
by N####:

Works fine, would be great if it'd save the ISO setting when leaving the app

Z70%
by Z####:

Used to set the desired aperture to shutter speed so you have well exposed photographs.

Perfect for hard to set lighting conditions
