About Alert

Notify your loved ones when you need help

The Alert app works with the Embrace watch by Empatica. When Embrace detects a convulsive seizure the app automatically sends an alert through phone call/SMS to the designated caregivers in order to shorten first response times.

The Alert app is your reliable companion for epilepsy management.

Alert app allows you to:
• send automatic calls and SMS with your GPS location to your caregivers when a seizure is detected
• review your seizure activity and track frequency
• enable caregivers throughout different periods of the day (e.g., enable teachers or colleagues only for specific intervals or days)
• disable Embrace Light & Vibration for a good night's rest
• check on Embrace's status, battery and memory • receive notifications when updates and new features are available
• activate REST Mode to enable higher sensitivity of Embrace seizure detection when you are in restful activities, like watching TV or having a nap

EU: the Embrace Watch is a medical device of class IIa according to the directive 93/42/EEC, for patients with epilepsy or at risk of having epilepsy.

USA: Embrace is not a medical device. The Alert app is reserved for clinical trial participants only.

No response? No suggestions or support? No customer satisfaction? This app loves to kill batteries, instantly. You are a disgrace! You are making us pay $50+/month for individual accessories. They were free!!! Now you will not let us view any history on Mate. You are not configuring, nor letting us share, nor letting us use multiple platforms. You are a cheat! Nothing works because of your greed and lameness.

Disconnects ALL the time, even when my phone is right beside me. I had to wait two days for the memory to clear. Definitely not worth the monthly plans they came out with.

This app has potential for saving lives or even recording seizures in a person's sleep. Recently, since the subscription changed, I have had issues connecting to the location functionality and received a patronising answer. I have had issues with the charger, not even sure it has charged in two hours, as per the claims, but I have been advised it can be temperamental. Seriously Empatica, this is a nice watch, smart to wear, and has the potential to save lives. However, there are many serious issues that you need to sort out and quickly to create a unique user friendly watch. At the moment, it is average

I paid $200 dollars for the band, now they want me pay a minimum of $120 a year so i can have my seizures tracked.

This app is good for knowing if someone is having a seizure. Mostly someone with epilepsy or any seizure disorder would like to maybe have it.

This app and the embrace watch have so many bugs that need fixing. How dare they charge us anything for it. My fiancée and I have put a petition together to at least keep the basic function of sending alerts to caregivers free. Check the Empatica Embrace Watch owners page on Facebook for the link to it. I can't post it here sadly.

Since the latest update it seems to work much better but still far from faultless. It still regularly disconnects when I roll over and lie on my wrist or even if my wrist isn't in sight of the watch.

X70%
by X####:

Its getting better compared to just with in the past year it still has some bugs but not as meany as it did. I like the updates they have dun I would love it if they had it so if you where having a grandmal the watch would keep going off so people know it's not a falts alarm and time the seizures

I70%

The embrace was a complete waste of money and hence this app useless. It has so many bugs that need fixing that it is more of a prototype than a ready saleable product.

I am sick and tired of the app update coming up every time I charge the watch! I know that you are trying to improve the thing. Well, keep trying!

X70%
by X####:

Since the latest update the device will not connect. Three days now since it has not connected and answers from. ."customer support" ..have still not been given. But hey, make sure you pay that outrageous app fee every month for what is basically an over priced watch.

X70%
by X####:

My embrace never stays connected to my phone long enough to detect the seizures I have. Two thumbs down. Empatica support team is quick to respond and very courteous, however I seem to receive the same advice for fixing my connectivity problems over and over again which is redundant. I would not recommend buying. The product is overpriced and they use a subscription pricing model to entrap their customers into using the product. Good in theory, but poorly executed.

X70%
by X####:

Pairing with phone is much better. CYCLING triggers an alerts EVERY time and as I cycle to work, this is annoying. Also I would like to see an alert appear on my phone as well as alerting the carer when a seizure is detected

The wearable: It's almost impossible to pair with the app, and never stays paired for long. At first I was happy because it did a good job of detecting seizures while I sleep, but after taking it on a bike ride today it was going off constantly, detecting at least 5 seizures in 20 minutes, but I couldn't turn off rest mode because it wouldn't pair with the phone. By the end of the ride home the Embrace's memory was full. The app: The organization of this app doesn't make sense, things aren't where I'd expect. Also, Instead of releasing constant interface changes to everyone, please release a beta channel for user-testing and feedback. That way you can quickly get the feedback you need and iterate with those who are interested in contributing without constantly disorienting everyone else. The business model: The wearable costs $200 and I think That's reasonable considering what's on the market. That being said though, you're trying to charge customers a monthly fee for this to detect seizures??? The whole point of this was to detect seizures and no mention was ever made of a subscription model to enable the functionality the watch can do without any outside software. On top of that this is at best an alpha, so it's pretty audacious of you to try and charge for an extremely buggy product at this point. I could understand charging a subscription for a regular buggy app, but charging a subscription fee for something that is potentially a life-saving device that doesn't even work most of the time is beyond ridiculous. I know you have to find a sustainable business model, but get some more VC funding instead of a subscription fee. Your app isn't worth the money in its current state, but has potential (the point of VC). TL;DR: The concept has potential, and I want it to work, I really want to love it, but I just can't. The system works well in ideal conditions, but constantly disconnects from the app, can't handle exercise, and there's a subscription fee to track seizures. Wish they would've mentioned that a year ago when I bought it. It's essentially an alpha, and as someone in the product design industry I'm disappointed considering its potential.

This app keeps disconnecting from the embrace watch. I have to keep reconnecting to the watch. It would be easier to do this if there was an option on the home screen. However, this morning it will not reconnect. First time in a while that it completely failed to reconnect. Still not working, please fix this! My watch is charged and I've tried every way to set the phone to not disrupt the connection.

We had high expectations for Empatica. We understood that this was a relatively new product, but we were totally unprepared for the very high rate of false alarms. It's caused far more distress than simply not having the device. Until significant refinements are made, we believe the claimed functionality is simply false.

X70%
by X####:

It could be better, it's certainly useful and helps in some cases but I can't say that I feel 100% or even 85% safe and at ease being out and about on my own knowing that the watch will detect my Seizures. It is constantly disconnecting multiple times a day even when my phone is a foot or two away from me, let alone sitting on my lap and I find that to be very frustrating and stressful. As a device that patients use daily as a potential lifeline this should be thoroughly looked into.. in all seriousness please work on this ongoing issue. Thanks

I agree with Michelle M that the Embrace watch needs a lot more work to get done like updating the Embrace watch software to detect other types of seizures, ex. Partial, Drop and Absence seizures. If not then why pay for services that is no use. I might as well donate my Embrace watch back to my nuerologist Dr Fisher from Stanford hospital for someone who can use the Embrace watch.

Constantly disconnecting from my watch, and is full of false alarms. Never actually records an actual seizure, it only sends out alerts when my arm moves alot like when I'm dancing or whatever. This definitely needs some work

X70%
by X####:

The problem with this device isn't with the app so much as the watch itself. It does not stay connected to your phone if anything (even your own arm) comes between it. When it is disconnected, it vibrates to let you know and flashes your watch red. This can be very distracting when it happens multiple times; for example, when you're watching a movie in a dark room. The battery lasts almost two days meaning charging it is sometimes a hassle. In all, I wish there was a better way of making sure people know that this is at best a product that is still in development and not one that is finished. I wish I had understood the shortcomings before I purchased one.

X70%
by X####:

This is such a waste of time! It doesn't stay connected, it doesn't record sleep or activity correctly, and it doesn't record about 75% of the seizures like it should.

X70%
by X####:

Keeps disconnecting. Would be nice to have the caregivers activated by time, ie "Mom 1800-0800, Teacher 0800-1600, Sister 1600-2200". And for the caregivers to get map coordinates of the Embrace.

Latest Android update means the watch - which already had connection issues - won't connect at all. Utterly useless.

Bought the embrace because it claimed autonomic nervous system monitoring. Well, it may monitor it but it sure doesn't give ME the information. I've just lived with it for 8 months, thinking they'd get around to updating data access in the future. Now, though, it won't stay connected to my phone even if it's sitting right beside my wrist. I'm getting almost no data from it at all now because of that. As far as I'm concerned, this was the biggest waste of $200. And the fact that they're false advertising and offering a faulty product to consumers is despicable. Especially considering the SUPPOSED functionality of this product - many of their customers are on disability and $200 is a LOT of money to those people. I will steer anyone and everyone clear of this scam.

Z70%

The app works fine, but the watch needs work. Would be nice to be able to update that software to detect multiple types of seizures. It will let me know if my daughter is playing and shaking her arm but not when she has a seizure. She has partial seizures and tends to tighten up rather than convulse.

V70%
by V####:

The connection to my phone is unpredictable at best. It has detected one of my seizures but whenever I'm at home the watch sends a "pairing request" and makes my phone buzz about every 30 seconds. Sometimes in the middle of the night it will disconnect and the watch vibrates and wakes me up. It would be nice to be able to schedule times for night mode or have it permanently turned on. I've gotten a false alarm and the EMT's came and broke down my door. It's a huge hassle but living alone I need it for mine and my parents' peace of mind.

X70%

Had grand mal my kids were in the other room and heard me fall my wife was at work. The watch didn't pick up the seizure because it lost the connection to the phone and it never registered my seizure.

Since the new update there has been a lot of false alarms for example it goes off every time I play my bass guitar and the other night I had a seizure and it didn't go off.. I don't have a clue what's going on

Works really well, such peace of mind when I am out running. Does tend to go off if pushing the buggy over bumpy ground but guess that's the same wrist movement as a seizure.
