Materials Needed:
(6) 1"x4"x8' pine or cedar planks
(1) 1"x2"x8' pine plank
1-1/2" wood screws
1" wood screws
variety of pre-made planter boxes, 4 inches to 24 inches long

(6) L brackets or U brackets
Build the Frame
From two of the 1”x4”x8’ boards cut 4 pieces that are 44 inches long. Cut three of the 1”x4”x8’ boards to 7 feet long. Lay the three 7 foot boards on a flat surface, evenly spaced with outside edges of the two outside boards 44 inches apart. Place one of the 44” boards under the ends of the 7' boards on both ends. Lay the other 44” boards on top of the 7’ boards. Attach the 44” boards to the ends of the three 7’ boards with two 1-1/2” screws at each place where the boards intersect. Tip: For best results pre-drill holes before adding screws.
Add Planter Boxes
Lay the completed frame on a flat surface and arrange window boxes to create the desired design. Tip: Remember to consider what plants will fill the boxes and if any hanging plants or other accessories will be part of the design.
Once the design is determined use a carpenter’s square to make level marks where the boxes are.
Finish the Details
Raise the top end of the screen off of the surface slightly and attach the 46” board centered directly over the top. Use 1" screws to secure it to the frame.
If adding a hanging plant, screw one 1-1/2” screw through the horizontal part of the top of the frame centered over the opening and about 2 inches from the bottom of the board. The plant hanger will go between the front and back boards and rest on the screw.
