About 1000 English Words Color Coded

The Reading in Colour©® (Color*) Application is a list of 1000 most frequently used sight words in the English language. Research of these sight words have proven that the first 300 sight words make up about 65% of all printed material in English. So constant practice in learning these frequently used sight words early in your study will be a great help to all students beginning to read English and will definitely help your proficiency in reading and speaking English well.

It is clear that learning these words and knowing how to use them correctly is a very important step. But, more importantly is to know how to read and say the words accurately and with correct pronunciation. Since many of these sight words have unusual spelling patterns, they cannot be easily read with confidence. There are very few accurate visual images to help show their true meaning and it can be a struggle to learn to read and spell them.

For this reason the words have been coded by color. Each of the 1000 words have been individually color coded and the voice over for each word supports the correct pronunciation while helping to learn and identify the color coded vowel sounds embedded in the words. All the color-coded vowel sounds in each of the 1000 words show how the written word is spoken. The color coding of the written word allows the sounds in words to be seen by color for easy, fast and accurate reading and speaking results. The color-coding unifies all the vowel sounds in a word by the designated color codes that cues in correct and accurate pronunciation. The color-coding also helps visual learners with their spelling.

The first 200 sight words at Base Level and the next 300 sight words at Active Level are especially beneficial to school aged children 5+ as they are important words taught in the early years of schooling.

Reading and applying the first 200 words at the Base Level and the next 300 sight words at the Active Level add to a total of knowing 500 sight words or frequently used words in the English language. The Skilled Level of 500 sight words is the last set of frequently used sight words making up a total of 1000 English words. When the color coding in the first 200 words are read with autonomic skill, the process of reading all the other new words speeds up exponentially.

The way that the RiC color-coded system has been embedded into each of the 1000 words replaces the need for using IPA phonetic symbols to transcribe the pronunciation of words in a language. This is a special unique feature of the Reading in Colour©® Application.
