The Gates Parts Image Capture (PIC) Gauge Belt Wear App delivers an accurate measurement and evaluation of serpentine belt wear, in the form of a simple Smartphone App.
Using state-of-the-art digital imaging technology in concert with industry-standard specifications for serpentine belts, PIC Gauge determines the degree of rib wear detected on a belt. Material loss is analyzed and returns one of three belt results:
- Within Specification (green),
- Wear Detected (yellow), or
- Replace Belt (red).
Belt wear measurements can be captured from any automotive K-section serpentine belt.
PIC Gauge utilizes a photograph taken with the Smartphone’s built-in camera, and is analyzed by patent-pending software. The App is simple to use, and the results are immediate.

The idea behind it is really neat but you need to remove the belt to take several pictures (which I never did get it to "diagnose" for me). At that point I might as well have replaced it. :(

Tried numerous times, with multiple belts in New and used conditions. Several different colors and 2 different cameras (bluetooth picture transfer) never got a correct reading. Great idea, but that's it.

I've spent lots of time trying to get the best picture possible and it still wont recognise the belt in the app. Its a good thought but ill stick to the orange plastic belt gages that gates has. A lot less frustrating.

I work in a fast-paced lube shop and this would be a great tool...if it worked! Took several pictures of my own belt, rotated and cropped numerous times and still it says to adjust or retake. F@#& that! Ha...try again!
