About Circle of Fifths

It`s a small lightweight application of Circle of Fifths. In music theory, the circle of fifths (or circle of fourths) is the relationship among the 12 tones of the chromatic scale, their corresponding key signatures, and the associated major and minor keys.
At the top, you have the key of C major, which has no sharps or flats in its key signature. Each stop on the circle as you go clockwise from C is a key with one more sharp than the previous key. Each stop as you go down counter-clockwise from C is a key with one more flat than the previous key.

This is an outstanding app for helping learn and figure key signatures and chord progressions using the Circle of Fifths. The app isn't flashy or anything, it just does what it claim to do. If I had a gripe, it's that the minor chord numbers (ii, iii, vi, vii) be shown in lower case, as usual. But that's nitpicking. This app is simple, functional, and easy to use and understand.

by Y####:

Nice app, don't like the adds at the bottom. Just charge a buck for it.

Y70%
by Y####:

Circle goes off the screen when you tab through

Y70%
by Y####:

Excellent app! This circle should be part of every student learning an instrument. In order to use this effectively one must have some knowledge of theory.

Y70%
by Y####:

Brilliant! Only the circle doesn't stay centred. Have tried deleting and reinstalling, please fix!

Y70%
by Y####:

I use it as a really straight forward key identifier. Perfect job! Thank you.

This app works perfect on my galaxy. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Thx! Now I don't have to be constantly writing keys and and the circles dwn when composing

B70%
by B####:

This app is basically an interactive circle of fifths poster. It's simple, and accurate, so five stars from me.

Y70%
by Y####:

Says to "tap note to turn circle." It would be a nice little app if that worked.

Y70%
by Y####:

Display doesn't fit properly on screen. When circle rotates it cuts off the top.

Y70%
by Y####:

i don't understand it and it won't teach me 2nd grade music ???? the app has no sound or notes to play and won't help with learning music

Y70%
by Y####:

Really great app. I love the key signature guide embedded in the centre. It would be amazing if it could play the chords when you touch them and/or put the notes on the staff in the centre. Thanks for making such a useful app!

Y70%
by Y####:

Great overall. Would be five stars if the accidentals changed based on the key highlighted. For example, there is no F# in the key of Db major.

U70%
by U####:

The app tells you the information that you want but ive recently had issues where the circle doesn't spin in the spot and it will instead spin from the key that is clicked on

A70%
by A####:

It shows one thing other circle of fifths I've seen don't show; the chords in the chosen major key. Can you please add minor keys?

V70%
by V####:

Works well. For those who don't know what the inner wheels are for - they're the relative minor chords in the key of the main note, (the one in the top centre segment). The middle ring is the relative 7th cord, which you won't use often, but knowing it is handy for changing key,

W70%
by W####:

the major scale progression shows but the minor scale progression is covered up by advertisements! Booooooo! Hissss! Booooo!

Y70%
by Y####:

I have no idea what the two inner wheels are or any explanation of what they are. The inside of the wheel is useless. It only shows a sharp or flat symbol but doesn't show what the sharp or flat note is. Directions would be very useful.

Looks 5few of the reviews are looking for much more than what this app is. I think someone with more than my rudimentary understanding of theory might find this even more helpful than I do. I play trumpet at church with guitars leading. I have to transpose a full step up and after a short learning curve I could do that without thinking. However, once in a while the chart calls for capo 2 and they play it capo 1 - suddenly I'm only 1/2 step up. I fumble a little with the simplest keys, but with more difficult keys I just put the horn down and sing. This might help me stay in the game!

This is basically a cheat sheet for building the chords of any key, major or minor using the theory in the circle of fifths. To understand it your have to know how the diatonic scale works and how triads are built to fit any key. Here is a hint, they're built in thirds.

Love this! It just filled a hole in my brain that I didn't know was there. It's so simple and easy to use and it makes music in general just seem so much more simple. This is like the cypher for western music. Definitely recommending this to all my friends and students.

Y70%
by Y####:

Amazing how clear it made the chords in any given key, It made me see that all the minors are the relative minor to one of the major chords. And the inner circle showing the diminished chord.... This makes theory including the modes all come together... if you don't understand it, it would help you to learn it.

Never mind previous review, problem was in my end, just needed to be updated and is now better with more features

Y70%

Good customer service! :) Big help

B70%
by B####:

Super simple and easy to use! It's handy having it to practice with, and the app works well. Love it!

I70%

Circle doesn't stay centered when you change keys. Otherwise not a bad app.

Y70%
by Y####:

Why the wheel is not on the center? How come should i see the chord? Silly ... Weird

Y70%
by Y####:

The wheel will not stay centered. Most cords go completely off screen. Great app if this can get fixed

Y70%
by Y####:

As soon as you select a different key the circle moves up. This is is on a Tab 2. If you fix this then it will be good. At the moment it is useless for anything except C

Y70%
by Y####:

Updated - Wow! That was a fast fix. My issue below has been resolved and now the app works great! Thanks. ---- Samsung Galaxy S8 running Android 7.0. This would be a very useful little app if they fixed one severe bug: the image doesn't stay in one place on the screen when selecting different root notes. With the selection of many roots, E for example, the image rotates up so that the root and its neighbors are off the screen!

An excellent, compact tool. You do have to understand what the circle of 5ths is and its power in chord building. Mark Newman from the U.K. has an excellent Youtube video introducing you (new and seasoned) to the circle of 5ths. This app & Newman's video were excellent tools in advancing my understanding & use of the circle of 5ths. One suggestion if I may, could you use both "upper" and "lower" case Roman Numerals in the two diagrams below circle of 5ths to clarify the Major and Minor INTERVALS? e.g., I ii iii IV V vi dim Great little app! Thank you.

Inner Circle the smallest point in the middle, is to to small the letters can't even be seen for those who have (visual problems/ wear glasses) it should be a little bigger or just make it big all the way around in the middle in a good way and visible in the Inner Circle Outer Circle ring middle circle pretty visible but the inner. Deep Circle too small to read.

Z70%
by Z####:

This is a great idea, and designed effectively and nicely. One thing which could be helpful is to add enharmonic feature which will let user see toggle between enharmonic keys (Gb and F# for example)

Y70%
by Y####:

Got an issuse, that the circle isn't centered, but the developer already reched out to me to become a beta tester and that they are going to address the issues.

N70%
by N####:

Circle didn't center when I changed key. Unreadable

A70%
by A####:

Adware unadvertised prior to download. Easier to just download a picture from Google of the circle of fifths. App not needed. Also don't contain camel wheel. Pointless.

Y70%
by Y####:

Convenient way to have this reference tool. Those complaining they don't know what parts of it mean would do better to spend a couple of minutes reading up on it online.

Y70%
by Y####:

Great app only problem is when you rotate the circle it spins around the screen most of the time it goes somewhat off screen. Must just be this update. Other then this issue it is a very useful app

A70%
by A####:

Was great, new update, now broken, wheel not rotating correctly. Uninstalled update per dev's advice, installed old app, same problem. Seems like ad at bottom of screen is causing the wheel to shift position as it is rotated.

Y70%
by Y####:

Interesting but I'm not sure what it is for. And it doesn't show the overlapping keys. For instance it has D flat with 5 flats but not C sharp with 7 sharps. Beethoven and Keith Richards both wrote music in C sharp.
