Cute Ribbon Star Topiaries

Create several of these topiaries for a star-studded table buffet or mantel.  Use red white and blue ribbons for a festive Fourth of July decoration.

Materials
STYROFOAM Brand Foam

Block, 8" x 4" x 2"
Stars, 1/2" thick: 9"; 6"

Other Materials

Grosgrain ribbon, 7/8" wide, one spool each: red;
Bright green reindeer moss
Bright red pots, 4" tall, two
Wooden dowel rod, 1/4"-3/8" diameter

Tools
Serrated knife
Candle stub or paraffin
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Pins: straight; floral
Small hand saw or utility knife
Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
Clear craft glue

Instructions
1. Cut three to five ribbon strips of each color, slightly
longer than width of appropriate foam star. Refer to photo to
place alternating ribbons horizontally across center front of
each star. Fold ribbon ends to back of foam shape; apply clear
glue to ribbon ends to secure.

2. Wrap each star tip with alternating ribbons as shown; fold
ends to back and glue to secure. Hold ribbon ends in place
with straight pins until glue dries; remove pins.

3. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Cut foam
block into several smaller pieces. Hot glue foam pieces into
each red pot to fill.

4. Use saw or utility knife to cut two 8"-10" dowel lengths.
Cut two 12" lengths from each ribbon spool. Spiral wrap each
dowel with green ribbon, securing ends at top and bottom with
hot glue gun. Spiral wrap dowels again with red ribbon,
leaving some green showing. Glue ends at top and bottom of dowels.

5. Hot glue one end of dowel to center back of appropriate
ribbon-covered star. Secure with floral pins, as needed.

6. Hot glue and insert opposite dowel ends into centers of
foam-filled pots. Glue reindeer moss to exposed foam in pots.
