About Magnetic Stud Finder

Magnetic stud finder app puts an handy stud finder in everyone's pocket at no cost. Even if already having your own stud finder, this app provides a valuable second source. Magnetic stud finder app consists of a customized metal detector with a bubble level view. It can be used for both metal and wood studs. Steel nails/screws are used to fix drywall to the wood studs. Magnetic stud finder finds wood studs by identifying the location of nails and screws. The bubble level is another tool for handyman. The app can also be used as detector for all ferromagnetic objects.

To make the best out of it, it is very important to use this app properly. We provide help within the app. More information is provided in our website www.goldsequence.com. You can also see this instruction video

We have tested this app in multiple buildings with different phones. It works pretty well for drywall if used properly. Even if you cover the drywall with a extra layer of 1/4 inch thick ceramic tile, the app can still work. That being said, the app is not without its limits. This app won't work well if the variation of magnetic field strength becomes too weak to pick up. For example, if you live in a old house with plaster wall and the plaster layer is more than 1/4 inch thick, the app will probably not work well. Even if your house uses drywall, if the size of the drywall screws is too small, it could generate problems for this app. So we agree that this app is not for every house. However, we do believe that it can do good things for many people in many houses.

Awesome app! I was able to detect a few nails behind my dry wall to figure out approximately where my stud is. This is the kind of app I love finding in the Play Store, it makes great use out of the limited hardware we have on our phones. Since it is dependent on the phone's hardware, I wish people would stop rating the app so low if their phones don't have a magnetic sensor. Also, It's a phone app so it shouldn't be compared to the accuracy of a $100 stud finder.

I mean it's impossible to get an accurate results, but it gives you a general idea of where the studs are based on the small spikes in the magnetic reading from the nails. It works enough to make the job easier. This is from a Samsung S3 mini so I imagine most new phones will give as good if not a better reading. The trick is to make sure you are not wearing or near anything which will give off a magnetic reading and then move the phone slowly over the wall, looking for small, regular spikes in the reading.

Stupid thing only offers level. Will not open secondary window to show functions as the app pic shows. Nor will it run any thing.

It worked against metal, but it only went off one time searching my entire wall. Going up and down around that area, nothing else went off. Hard to believe there is only one nail in that wall. Might work for others. I have a Samsung Edge, purchased June 2016.

This app does not work very well on devices which do not contain a magnetic sensor. Other apps are careful to check whether the magnetic sensor exists before they advertise their usefulness.

As soon as I opened the app, the alarm went off constantly. I waved the phone in a figure 8 motion as suggested to realign the magnet and nothing changed. Disappointingly bad.

Does not work at all, even when waved over a known drywall screw. I have a Samsung Galaxy 5.

Holy crap, it actually worked!!! My old school one with the magnet didn't work but this app did the trick.

V70%
by V####:

The sensor is close to the camera/flash. With some searching it was very obvious where a drywall screw is. Lining up 'finds' gives the stud location. Very helpful!

X70%

LOL Darryl what exactly do you think a stud finder is?

W70%
by W####:

Not reliable as a stud finder. Could only detect some metal objects. Advise you to not bother with it.

Cracking little app, saved me buying a stud finder from hardware store.

X70%

Worked great. Found where the sensor on my phone was with a loose nail like it said, and then was able to find all the nails in my wall and hang something on a stud.

I had this on my HTC DA and now have it on my Galaxy S4. It does require that you do several passes but once it vibrates like crazy I usually found the stud! Mounted 6 TVs with this app!!

It did what it said... Somewhat. Instructions need to be more/parameters need to be more fine tuned

Did not work at all no matter where I put it on my house.

I tested this on new drywall I fitted and it found every screw.

It does the job. I needed to find the studs in my wall to hang a tv and it worked. Of course I had to slide my phone up and downthe wall to find the metal nail so it can beep. And every 16 inches it beeped for me. Good thing i didn't buy an actual stud finder, saved me almost 20 dollars.

Finds metal objects. Works on Nexus 5. Aim for earpiece speaker.

Don't work on note 4

Y70%

It works great....I was able to locate the studs without any issues.

H70%

This worked perfectly in finding the studs! I tested it out by finding one and measuring 16" in both directions and it worked! Upper left on HTC One m8

Y70%

Read the other comments re locating the mag sensor on your phone. Wouldn't use it for construction work, but it just proved handy for quickly for finding a stud using a Moto G

S70%
by S####:

While not technically a "stud" finder per say, it does work by using a metal detector (upper left on S4) to find the nails in the studs, which is a little trickier, but it works in the end.

This app turned my galaxy s4 into a batman meets Clint Eastwood haptic-feedback-powered stud finding MACHINE. It was extremely effective.

X70%
by X####:

I have a low end Samsung smartphone (don't remember the model) and it doesn't work at all. Never detected a metal object at all, and the only feedback it gives is about how straight the phone is being held, as though it were a level. Not much help. Disappointed--I know people who have used this app with fair success, so my guess it is that it depends on how good the phone is. This phone isn't a good one--it has trouble even getting a phone signal where other people have strong signals.

Was looking online for a stud finder, turns out there's an app for that! Works great on my galaxy s2. Shelves have already been fixed!

Got a higher reading when moving it over my dog then of anything metal and doesn't beep or vibrate.

To know if you have that sensor in your phone and if so you need to find were it's located but once you do great app.

R70%

I was installing a tv mount on the wall and the instructions said I needed a stud finder and this helped without needing to buy one. It actually finds the screws in drywall but for simple house hold use I would recommend.

X70%

It actually works, hung my flat screen TV

Works just fine for me and I use a Kyocera Brigadier.

Useless. Couldn't find how to get the settings to show up....

X70%

If I could give it lower I would. It didn't work with my note 3, and I thought maybe it would with my s5, but it still sucks.

F70%

Doesn't work

H70%
by H####:

Didn't work

C70%

Found most probable sensor location to be top left. No beep even when beep its enabled. Suppose it works, just not as I would expect it. I get a higher reading with metal placed near sensor, but no audible confirmation.
