Google My Maps

This app is good for those who like to create & share custom maps. Many of the features it lacks can be found in Google Maps, which is good reason why Google should never have separated the mapping tools into two applications. However, it needs full offline capability to be really of great use on mobile. No reason map tiles & kmz files can't be stored on device. Most of my maps are in places where data is lacking.

2 things that this app could perhaps benefit from ill state one i feel is urgent first, 1 the ability to draw a line without the line automatically bending in accordance with the curvature of the earth (i think thats why it happens??) I need straight lines for references sake. And 2 this is probably an app that could just be intergrated into maps or earth as opposed to being stand alone, because as it is it lacks features. Please tend to this! Thankyou

The button to Navigate to a saved point seems hidden and small. Would like a Navigate button along bottom of screen after selecting a saved point. There's a big button to edit the saved point, but you have to select the name of the saved item then select a tiny button at top to navigate to that point. Save us a screen press and just put a Navigate option right next to the saved point name. Otherwise great app.

I'm using this to track locations of vehicles at a car lot. There are two things that need to be fixed/added. One is the ability to add images to the points from the app. Another is if you search for a point that was created, it does not pop up in the app. Only in the browser.

Navigating the map is difficult. Tapping the crosshairs icon doesn't zoom in like it should. You can't change the icons on place markers. In the app there's a "view map legend" option which is a joke since every icon will be the same. It feels like this app was slapped together and abandoned. The My Maps web interface is leagues better.

Why oh why can I not sync a google drive folder as a layer? Think about it: you add a kml file to that folder and BAM it's on your map pre customized. You want to add a picture? Add it to another synced folder and BAM geo data is pulled from your GOOGLE photos/GOOGLE drive account and auto placed on your GOOGLE mymap. You have a GOOGLE form that you send to all your friends that is synced to a GOOGLE sheet, and BAM that GOOGLE sheet is automatically updated in your GOOGLE mymap. Why on [GOOGLE] earth should these things have to be manually synced each time is beyond me, let allow the fact that you have to re customise the layer again. And where is the GOOGLE fusion support? What about a section to pull from your started/labeled places on GOOGLE maps? Add any of these and this app will go from "meh, it's cool, but doesn't really do what I need" to "okay, this is pretty cool!" Thanks for the app!

After the most recent update I've come to the conclusion that Google intends for My Maps to be used as a waypoint sharing app only. Unlike the much older version which was great, you can't do anything else with this one. Still fvcking useless.

The functionality of this app is so minimal compared to the web interface it's basically pointless. The app is much easier to use and has a really nice interface. But it lacks essential features such being able to add photos to markers, change line colours, or import data from kml files into a layer. This would be such a good app if it actually allowed you to access the full functionality offered on the web.

I read about My Maps and was very excited to create a map for my upcoming vacation. I was disappointed, however, at how difficult it actually is to use.Why does it not ask you what layer you want to add a location to? Instead it just adds it to your most recent layer and I have not been able to figure out how to move a location to a different layer. And why can't you edit the icons within the app? You can only edit them from the full Web version. Great ideas... just not executed well and not user friendly.

In the new version the speed is improved and some bugs are fixed. However it still has the same problems and limitations like unable to change the icon color. Moreover, the links in the description are no longer clickable.

Awkward and nerfed. You can no longer share maps to Google Maps. They only open in My Maps with no ability to start navigation. If I want to set a rendezvous point and share it with friends, they won't be able to navigate there. Why has Google lobotomized all their mapping apps? My Tracks is another perfect example of something that worked well and yet was dropped.

As a car hauler, my navigator/girlfriend can no longer map out our pick up and delivery locations as before. No longer can she: 1) change color of marker 2) change the marker 3) select to view a location on a new page and switch to terrain view---this was a very important feature as my truck and trailer is bigger and longer than your average 18 wheeler. Hoping she can find us a new map app because as stated in my title, this one is now useless to us. Way to go.

Why remove my tracks and make useless apps like this. I can't tracking with this apps. This is just polyline maker and advance users prefer use their dekstop than android. Very not help.

What is the purpose of this app? I created a map on my laptop and installed this thinking that I will be able to see the map with the markers on it. Noooope. You just see a regular map and your markers are on a separate list. And even if you add a marker from the app, you still can't see it on the map!

Last year i traced a map for trip and it was great. Now the app won't open unless I allow it to access contacts. Why? I am not interested in seeing my contacts whereabouts. It should be simple to trace a map and save it offline on my device. Why should it be on cloud? Google please adjust.

Even though it doesn't have the editing functionality of the web app, it would still be okay if it at least reflected all the work I had done IN the web app. Sadly, it does not. It stripped the colors from the location markers, leaving me with a field of more useless white placeholders than the line to get into the Republican National Convention. Seriously: why bother releasing this, Google?

I use this app on Samsung Galaxy Tab sm-t700. Don't see the pins of selected places on map in My Maps application, only if I open map in Google Maps. Also I can't change the color of pins. The lines don't follow the roads and the separate points are not marked, thus the lines are useless. Very upset with this app :(((( PS: My Maps online works MUCH better!

I love the web version of My Maps, but the only thing I am able to use the app for is to show off maps I've already made to friends and family. Being unable to add driving routes, making it near impossible to edit existing driving routes, and just having an all around clumsy interface put it near the top of my list for what to uninstall when I need more space on my phone.

You can't search for or add points by coordinates (decimal degrees). I've tried it on multiple devices. The keyboard disappears and nothing else happens when I press the "enter" button.

Crashes all the time. Somewhat cumbersome to use. Limited functionality as other reviews pointed out. Bummer, because it could be extremely useful if it worked. Please don't give up on it Google!

I HATE this app. While it's possible to save a route, say for a road trip, and modify the saved route, it's difficult (impossible) to determine distance and drive time between points or to get turn-by-turn driving instructions. The original Google Maps had the same functionality (now sadly missing) and let me plan shopping points based on distance and drive time. I've tried using the distance ruler but using it to determine driving distance is tedious and because it draws a line wherever you touch the map (even if only to shift the map view) you end up with a jumbled, useless mess. There are much better navigation apps available (I use Route 66).

I constantly find bugs in this app that Google doesn't seem to want to address. One of the most annoying is that it displays every one of my maps as having been created in December of 1969, even though Google Drive always shows the correct "created on" date.

I just want to search, see it in the map, and click add so i can plan out routes for work on the go. The desktop version is great, the app is terrible.

I already have loads of stars all over Google Maps from my travels. So why should I have to download an additional App that doesn't even recognize all of the locations I've starred over the years. Should simply be a maps feature.

Useful features from web/desktop version missing, such as: search for your own points, change color/style of markers. App can essentially only view existing map and add points for further editing in the web version.

If I could retrieve my #starred maps around Perth, Western Australia, you would notice the businesses I starred long before it became a feature on #maps . As my time here is limited, I would personally like to make it known to Sergey Brin & Lawrence Page, that I still consider Google as a #TrustedCompany .I'm not strong now as I used to be, I surrender and will cease the rebel in me. Live a long life & die happy.

I can't save map areas or my custom maps and map points offline, which is the entire point to me. Useless app otherwise.

Has less than half the capability of the full my maps webapp. Doesn't show/edit layers, can't change colors, interface sucks. Basically useless

Too bad it doesn't allow you to create routes. Or, too bad Google Maps mobile doesn't allow you to save a route in app or with My Maps. Oh well, maybe it will improve.

Unclear instructions. No Google Maps integrations. I just have maps with pins, no routing/navigation possible. Highly annoying, disorgainzed....

Decent but there's a flaw. I can't edit or make changes to multiple layers of the map. Just one. Fix this please

For Google, I was surprised at how much it lacks. The functionality is extremely limited (add or delete layers/places/descriptions). Things I expect: *Move places between layers *Create a new layer when you add a place *Select multiple layers to add a place to *Custom colors/icons for pins/layers *Show a # instead of overlapping close pins (ie Craigslist maps) *See info when you tap the pin like in a search *Embed these features in the maps app BUG: Creating new layers has duplicating and naming weirdness

As wonderful as *some* of the feature are (or can be), the simple fact is that getting from the list of "Saved Maps" to navigating *to* that saved location ("using the map") is unbelievably convoluted! This is such a disappointment because Google is *usually* associated with innovation and intuitive design (ease of use, etc.). This is the very definition of counterintuitive, IMO! What were you thinking? Why *so* many non obvious steps just to use the stupid map? Plenty of other devs have done it! W.E.

Wish there was a 0 star rating. The mobile app sucks beyond believe with 0 usefulness. The web app is a little better with some nice features but why make a map if you cannot navigate with it via car/bike/bicycle/foot. All features should be combined into the main map program, especially the Terrain base map option which is gets 5 stars, everything else 0 stars......

7/28/16 WHY DID YOU DELETE ALL MY MAPS!!!! 5 YEARS OF WORK. GONE!! WTF???????7/28/16 ALL MAPS GONE. 5 YEARS OF WORK. WTF???? After 8 hrs of struggle I finally got a .csv file loaded that put all my map points at pt least in the state of TX. On my first attempt some of them ended up in Australia and France?? Of some 980 points, at least 40% are simply stacked up on top of each other on the street/road/highway of the address because apparently Google doesn't recognize 911 addresses. Particularly in rural areas. To add insult to injury, this app reloads the data seemingly every 60 seconds or so when it is open. That has made it jump into 6th place on my phone for data usage. 4 places ahead of Maps/Navigation which is what I spend 75% of my time using when I am using a map. 8/4/16 All my original maps magically reappeared. Still a data hog.

It's a good app overall. The only downsides are that it's not very user friendly, the commands aren't efficiently titled or explained, and it could use some customization options like icons and colours for custom locations.

A very good idea but your team do not work to optimize the app . In the mobile app you cannot change the colors of the pins, you can only do it in the webpage. Furthermore in the app you do not have a refresh button . For example if you login in the webpage and do a change in the color of the pin and then you go and see your smartphone it will not have sync . Because there is not sync button your app syncs only when you close the app and then you reopen it . Finally you have problems and your last update is too old . You need to work and update the app more often.

Its so hard to add a line to link stops of my maps. Should have a function to automatically link all stops or let users select stops

Google please read! This is a fantastic remake! I love the features, and it has mad potential! Please add more features to the Android app, integration with Google Earth, reverse the direction of drawing pathways (versus being inverted?), and keep up the innovation! This can be such an invaluable tool for fisherman!

I have no issues using the PC version, so the person who says you need technical knowledge can shove it (see how mad this thing has made me?). The app UI is clumsy, the options limited, and ultimately it doesn't do anything of worth. I suppose it exists just as an on-the-go way to drop some points into a map created on a desktop. If I weren't so furiously frustrated trying to get this thing to do anything I would try to be objective but all I want to do right now is to lay down for a while in a cool room.
