About Google PDF Viewer

PDF Viewing is now available directly in Google Drive. For environments where this cannot be deployed, Google PDF Viewer offers the same capabilities in a standalone app. View, print, search and copy text from pdf documents while you're on the go.

Note 1: PDF Viewer is primarily meant for use in the context of the Android for Work Program (http://android.com/work).

Note 2: No icon is available in launcher, the app is launched when opening a pdf (from Downloads or another app).

What are users saying about Google PDF Viewer

by S####:

I didn't like that you have to download it 2 be able to see PDFs I think it's kind of lame that if you don't have storage on yourf phone cuz you need to erase some apps

S70%
by S####:

In my humble opinion, that would be a yes. It is simple, it does exactly what it says, no gimmicks, no ads, no nonsense. It is simply the best viewer/reader, not an editor. Best part is, it doesn't appear as an actual program, but more or less like a plugin or internal software for the phone/tablet.

B70%
by B####:

It does what it says... It is pretty much a basic viewer, yet a very capable, fast and reliable one. One thing I really liked is that it enables you to print. It does not have any tools such as editing, password management, or format converting; if that is what you are looking for, look elsewhere!

Q70%
by Q####:

It reads PDF. It's not an editor, though that feature would be nice. Personally I wouldn't edit a PDF via a tablet or smartphone. Good for looking at payslips and other various things on the go whilst saving mobile data.

S70%
by S####:

Yes, its a Google product, but trust me this is the fastest and most lightweight and best pdf reader availabke till date. Ofcourse you wont find in your launcher, the app magically opens the pdf directly from your file manager and broweers.

lol!

I cant find the app anywhere on my home screen and it doesnt even open properly sometimes, I'm trying to read a book but when I close the tab I can't find the app and when I go to play store I cant open the app from there so Google a very big problem you need to fix, please put the app on our home screen and make it easier to access

A70%
by A####:

Downloaded, installed, and that's it. Cannot find it on my phone. No short cut or anything so I don't know if it works or not.

S70%
by S####:

After installing this app, I am unable to find the app on my phone. I wanted to use this PDF viewer instead of Adobe, because their Acrobat Reader is garbage after their recent updates!

S70%
by S####:

It doesn't allow direct viewing of PDFs from emails or websites. So what's the point? If I have to save the PDF and then open it through an app and file manager I'd rather use Adobe.

C70%
by C####:

Have installed this app but cant see it in my phone. Just shows here 'uninstall' but only appears when you want to open a pdf doc. It works pretty fine though, for this i give u a 5.

S70%
by S####:

It's bad because can't open some pdf files. So I am wondering why is this app here? Shame on Google for this. Now on my nexus phone I am in a must of installing some third party app for reading pdf files. Make this app working!

S70%
by S####:

Lollipop? No. Tried fat heavy Marshmallow tablet. No. PDF keep loading into INTERNAL storage. No inducement to get dev interns to edit APK manifest file ?? XML text beyond reach of AI ? How artificially unintelligent !

L70%
by L####:

Well I dunno why everyone else says this app is crap....It works great for me.....Does what its supposed to do...Keeps all your personal files in tact like your resumes personal references etc. Not a thing wrong with it.....So "COOL" I say ☺☺☺☺

S70%
by S####:

It's wonderfully useful when you are on the go and quickly browse through your PDF files. It's light weight so the device memory is not compromised. Also, it responds fast. PDF files are opened with optimizing the screen space.

S70%
by S####:

Everything you need! No spam, no ads and updates when needed. Plus it doesn't even add an icon. Baffled how it's not included in the system. Flawless software!

S70%
by S####:

PDF attachments from emails in Gmail app (3rd party SMTP account) will not open despite this app being installed. Error message: "you don't have an app that can open this file (.pdf)"

D70%
by D####:

Once installed this app intercepts anything you want to do to a pdf. It tries to stash stuff to the cloud. This is oriented toward phone users with no idea of what tablet users actually need.

H70%
by H####:

Why does a PDF viewer need permission for CONTACTS/ACCOUNTS??? Developer needs to explain need/use of any privacy or security sensitive perms.

C70%
by C####:

This does the job perfectly to view PDF files. No bells and whistles - but you don't need them. I agree this should be stock on all Android devices.

S70%
by S####:

Smaller and less bloated than the Adobe one. Works well, but it's too easy to accidentally bump the scroll slider when scrolling around a place.

S70%
by S####:

I'll be reading page 10 of a magazine when the viewer spontaneously goes completely haywire and jumps to page 77. When I eventually find my place and continue reading it'll do the same thing again 30 seconds later! Complete waste of time if it can't be relied upon to remain on the page you scroll to. I'd uninstall it and never look back if it wasn't for the fact that the Adobe reader can't display some of my documents. This app needs to be fixed or put out of its misery!

S70%
by S####:

Simple, just as I needed it. Yeah, no shortcut, because what would you do with it, start a new pdf? It's not like a music player, to keep playlists (although I understand how that would have been handy on a phone, sort of like a galery with all your pdf's; I mean, you also don't have a shortcut to an app to view pictures, but you do have a galery, which is kinda it; every other book reader has that). So yeah, I don't need the shortcut, but I understand the people who would have liked to have it.

S70%
by S####:

Google can't we have a shortcut for this app, I don't want other 3rd party apps, it just makes it hard to go to a file manager then look for the PDF document then open it, why can't it be that we have a standalone shortcut of Google PDF viewer and then it shows all available PDFs in the phone. I like the app specially that it's trustworthy from Google, the only issue is the one I mentioned. Hope Google listens.

S70%
by S####:

It's a reader, nothing more, nothing less. It works silently in the background AS IT SHOULD. Find the pdf file you're trying to look for in your phone (even better yet, use a file explorer), and open it, it's all automatic. If it says "incompatible", then it's not the issue with the reader, but that of the file. And if you say "blah blah blah has no issue reading it", then why complain about this one? Use the other one or keep both. This reader works just fine. Stop whining.

S70%
by S####:

Awesome app. To the fools complaining about not finding icon, please stop, give your device to someone who knows how to use it. The thing is, once installed it will open PDF files for you when you open them with explorer or directly from gmail etc. So open file explorer and go to PDF file and finally open it, you will see the magic.

S70%
by S####:

For those of you telling me and others to stop complaining, stop telling us what to say. It's just a reader you say. Well it's not reading anything. Tryingto open PDF from my email on my Droid and I was sent to Play Store. This app was recommended but it doesn't do anything. Useless. Uninstalling.

S70%
by S####:

Google developers, please give this app a shortcut in the app drawer. From reading the comments it's obvious people don't know how to open it. Going to a file manager every time is counterintuitive. I do like that the app is small.

S70%
by S####:

It's very easy and wonderful using it..... With such an low space on mobile. Jzt have a problem that the icon in apps list is not showing so how to open the files which are in my storage already?

S70%
by S####:

Drive won't recognize the file I select as pdf, so I can't even download the thing in the first place to use a different reader with. Says it's an "incompatible file type" which sure is weird since Adobe and even the kindle app have zero problem with reading the file. Without this attachment that doesn't work, drive itself becomes pretty useless since ALL of my teachers post pdf files. No options to not be the default reader, either. Uninstalling.

S70%
by S####:

For those of you that might be complaining about no application icon and decided to uninstall it, do not. You need a file manager, or an app that calls for an application supporting PDF types.

S70%
by S####:

Why doesn't this support even basic features that other platforms have had for years, like rotate? Do they assume that every PDF in the world is correctly formatted already? Of the various PDF readers on my tablet, half made by Google, none of them support this. But maybe a dedicated "PDF Reader" app would. Nope, useless.

S70%
by S####:

Minimal pdf reader from giant like Google is like virtual brick. No text wrap. No zoom. No auto text adjust on zoom. Feels like nothingness. Ask me what things are required for an avid pdf reader app. Hire me, i would design a better pdf reader than a brick.

What's the difference between this and Google Drive PDF Viewer that came preinstalled? I searched for a way to remove a PDF password in order to share there PDF, and this came up in the top five, however it does not have that option.

S70%
by S####:

Only because there is no shortcut, I will give it 3 stars (I would give you only 1 star, but you are so pathetic...). Add the shorcut and you will have all stars.

S70%
by S####:

When a pdf is downloaded via a non gmail a count it will not open. If it comes in via Gmail, it works a treat. The petty wars between tech giants is annoying to the hoi poloi.

S70%
by S####:

App is useful sometimes but it does not read my few pdf saying "invalid format", specially files on my SD card. Whereas other pdf reader apps has no issues with those SD card files. Could you please fix this bug. Thanks

K70%
by K####:

The other viewers just don't cut it on a mobile platform. Every other .PDF viewer I have tried to use comes stocked with an abundance of issues and errors when opening my important documents Google is where I go.

R70%
by R####:

It's exactly what I wanted. I just wanted to open a PDF and it did exactly that. ------------- To those complaining, this is a BASIC READER which runs in the background without using consuming much ram so use the browser or file explorer and then open the PDF file. It's very simple really. Jeez.

S70%
by S####:

It's ok, a reader but I was looking for something where I have certain features or highlighting one for the least , I expected it from Google. Not complaining or anything but I don't understand the difference between the drive PDF viewer and this one. It's all same.
