Google needs to add an option to be able to set video quality for users who have bandwidth caps imposed by their ISPs. This app defaults to the highest available quality if you close out and return to the app. Once I set the quality, it should maintain that setting until it's changed by me. ISPs are jerks for imposing bandwidth caps. Having apps that let you control your usage is priceless.

Y70%
by Y####:

The recent update enabled ADs on my TV and you know what? The ADs play at a higher quality than the actual content! And when my poor 2Mbps ADSL line (thanks BT!) can't load the AD quickly enough, I ended up looking at a spinning circle for 5-10 minute before the AD start playing...

G70%
by G####:

Rubbish when you want to choose a new vid whilst watching one it covers the whole screen and only stays up for a few seconds not long enough to read the title. Just one of many things that are rubbish. You tube app on fire tv is much better. Android tv is being forgotten and left to rot. Back to fire tv for me

You guys must be proud of your 2.4 average rating! Only shows 100 subscribed channels. Apparently there is a limit to number of playlists shown. Users can't mange playlists. There's no shuffle button.for playlists, like there is in the browser version. I use the nVidia Shield. and I'll be upgrading to the new Shield.. This app is way below the standards of an app that plays on this high-end device. Why do developers think it is necessary to streamline the functions for an Android TV app?

C70%
by C####:

What a piece of garbage. We have an Nvidia Shield (Android TV) and it's great except for this YouTube app. Come on, you can't see all your subscriptions (only shows the first 100 or so); playlists are also limited to the first 10-20; no playlist management; and terrible UI. I'd rather use a thirdparty youtube app, but apparently that's not a thing on Android TV. Pure crap.

Y70%
by Y####:

Absolutely ridiculous that on top-level hardware such as the Nvidia Shield TV this youtube app is so terrible. Not even 1080p 60 fps??!! My crappy cell phone does a better job with HD youtube videos. I get better youtube with a dodgy Kodi plugin.

L70%
by L####:

Apart from missing features like camera switching it's full of bugs. Sometimes doesn't login to your account when you open it, Some thumbnails don't load, At times videos wont play, Video playback can pause while the audio still plays. I have used many YouTube clients and this is by far the worse. I would of never expected Google to have this bad of a client for its own service and on it's own platform... shame

Y70%
by Y####:

I really hope google will update this app soon. Crashes constantly on my Sony Bravia TV, doesn't remember my settings and has a very clunky interface. Do better Google!

W70%
by W####:

Can't authenticate as a user with a Google for Work account. The application simply bombs out and says it can't authenticate. It appears that it doesn't support the more modern auth methods required by 2-factor etc etc. Thing is, I don't want a separate normal account, to pay for Youtube red twice, just so this app doesn't crash. It also prevents reliable Youtube streaming to my Android TV because of this error. Come on google, get this fixed!

E70%
by E####:

This app much needed an update. Last update was April 18, 2016.. I tried on my brand now Sony 55X85D tv, there is a significant audio sync issue when playing thru optical output. All other apps and tv has no such audio sync issue, except on YouTube...

Y70%
by Y####:

Honestly, I expected much much more... so it works ok. That's about it. No way to add a video to a list (watch later or something), no way to remove a video from a list, skipping through videos could be a lot more intelligent. Honestly there are a load of UI/UX issues that need to be improved upon as well.

Y70%
by Y####:

YouTube Android TV app has so much judder and lag on 60fps video making it unwatchable. No problem using Google cast or Chromecast on the same TV.

Y70%
by Y####:

I have two simple requests for the YouTube app for Android TV: - Stop bringing up the menu and covering up the screen for EVERY BUTTON PRESS on the remote. If I'm just fast-forwarding or rewinding, I don't want to see the interface cover the content - Find some way to let us know if a particular video has been watched already. The Suggestions list is full of videos I've already seen, and it's a waste of my time. Otherwise, it's a great experience on the Shield TV device.

Y70%
by Y####:

Google should be ashamed at the state of this app. Throw even one developer at it for a few weeks and make this app respectable. - Controls are trash, needs to have skip fwd, skip back, etc without using the crap ui navbar - Navbar doesn't need to cover the entire screen - Navbar doesn't need to be there for the first 5 seconds of every video - For the love of god let me disable AutoPlay I mean, those are a few things to start with.

B70%
by B####:

buggy videos freeze all the time, youtube constantly crashes and my shield tv has to reboot. The youtube on firetv never crashes, cannot see the comments. Youtube for android tv SHOULD be great, but it fails in so many categories!

Y70%
by Y####:

For 1080p videos, this app is pretty much perfect. 4K is where it fails. It buffers when it wants to and I can never predict whether it will work or buffer endlessly despite my 37Mbps connection. Also, the 4K 60fps videos always freeze, making them pretty much unwatchable.

D70%
by D####:

Does the basics, but has a limited feature set. The most frustrating for me is the limitation to a single account - not much use for a family.

Y70%
by Y####:

Things still missing are: 1.- Add/Remove a video to a list or watch later 2.- Way to open your lists without having to play them first 3.- Better sync of playback of videos, so they resume when you left at the middle in another device, this includes adding the red band at the bottom to know if you already played certain video, 4.- Make playback controls less obstrusive

Y70%
by Y####:

watching a live video in app on mibox = disaster. constantly freezes and gives the retry option. casting a live video from phone/computer to mibox = no problems.

Y70%
by Y####:

Terrible. Limits the amount of subscriptions can display and will randomly not load videos in a series when you scroll. Sometimes nonfunctional and will load nothing. Typical Google apathy displayed here. No way to disable autoplay and, unlike the web version, gives you no warning between switching videos. I can't believe this app.

Y70%
by Y####:

This app will cause my Android TV to crash if I play long videos. This app needs an update or the regular youtube app needs to be made compatible with Android TV.

A70%
by A####:

Doesn't stream as quick as my laptop does. 4K videos can hardly load. Some 4K split the screen and scrambles video. Absolutely useless at the moment

Y70%
by Y####:

If Sony x85c tv is turned off during active Youtube video, and after you click back into the youtube app, the home screen does not load any data - making the app unusable. Please patch.

Y70%
by Y####:

Pros: - I have youtube on my tv Cons: - With the latest version, 4k videos are constantly buffering. This is on a gigabit line. If I uninstall updates for the app, all 4k videos play without buffering. Almost returned the Tv because of it, I thought the tv's networking stack is to blame. - 60fps videos can't play

Q70%
by Q####:

If you have over 20 subscriptions there is no way to see the ones after it. For instance I can't watch Vsauce. I always have to search for it, its not listed on the left. Voice search sometimes won't kick off. UPDATE - Still no innovation or fixes. Maybe I am a power user? I would think people have more then I do, but it only shows like maybe 7 of my 15 playlists. (which might sound like a lot but idk I just have categories for videos I save). I always have to add videos to Watch Later FROM my playlists to access them. It doesn't even show the last modified either, idk HOW it is choosing some of these, some of them are very old and I don't use anymore (but still want saved) And my subscriptions stop at about the letter M. I have 191 of them but IDK, maybe it is too much for memory? But atleast give me a button to "Load More". I literally don't go to all of these channels because I can't select them.

Y70%
by Y####:

I can't make this app show my subscription list or my playlists on my main account on the YouTube app for Android TV... it display only when i log on my second channel. What am i doing wrong?

Q70%

Impossible remove videos from 'watch later', dont show video comments. Very, very simple youtube player. :(

I have a Shield TV and I love it, but the YouTube app has an intermittent error. After a video finishes it will, more often than not, give the error "Please check your network connection" with the option to retry when it's trying to load the next video. Selecting "Retry" almost always works to load the next video, but it's a nuisance to have to do it so often. It seems that a quick fix would be to have it wait a second and retry automatically perhaps up to 5 times. My only other complaint is the size of the rewind play fast-forward controls. They take up too much visual real estate. You should at least have an option to use a much smaller bottom hugging UI so it's easier to read what's on the screen when you pause. Make it the equivalent of a PC YouTube player. It's on a TV, not a touch screen. There's no reason for such large buttons on a TV outside of being assistance to the visually impaired.

Y70%
by Y####:

The app will intermittently lose the connection. Afterwards it won't bother to reconnect. I have to restart the Nvidia Shield for the app to re-establish an internet connection (tl;dr please fix this Google.)

E70%
by E####:

This app constantly needs to buffer at Full-HD or 4K resolutions, while other apps like Netflix are able to stream 4K without any problems. Definitly not the problem of my internet connection!

S70%
by S####:

On Philips 6401 60fps playback crashes app and changes tv resolution to 480p. Also HD and 4K playback has a frames drop.

J70%
by J####:

YouTube app constantly crashing (solid grey screen) everytime I try to transition back to home screen. This happens on my Shield TV.

Y70%
by Y####:

I'm quite disappointed to experience that the recently launched "End Cards" feature, that otherwise works very nice on desktop and mobile, is - at this moment - not supported in the TV app. Perhaps it's too much to expect from Google that their things work on all platforms? Even though that's what they want developers using their tools to make sure... hmm...

Y70%
by Y####:

For Nvidia Shield TV, it doesn't show watched on any videos I've seen and there is way to view comments. These are the 2 most basic functions and it can't do it even.

As an avid YouTube viewer (and YouTube Red subscriber) I have a YouTube app installed on almost every device I own. I am truly shocked that the worst of them all is the YouTube for Android TV app. Compared to the app on my phones, tablets, Roku, Xbox one and browser the Android TV app lacks many features those others have had for a while now. For instance: 1) Auto-Play. What's a simple toggle switch on every other app is simply unavailable on Android TV. 2) UI. There is no auto-hide or hide option for the UI on a paused video. Need to pause to see or read something on screen? Or read some text on the video intro? Sorry, you can only imagine what it looks like behind the huge Red Title bar, transport buttons etc. (For comparison: every other Youtube app has a auto-hiding UI on paused videos, ROKU takes a step further by simply pressing up on remote). 3) Casting. ??? This one truly shocked me. Here's a feature they took away ONLY on Android TV. Huh? *shrug* I enjoy Youtube so much I signed up for it's paid service, now because of this app, which by it's very purpose makes no sense for it to be gimped on its parent company's TV OS, is starting to make less sense.

It has been months and STILL no 60FPS support, doesn't show all subscriptions, no way to add videos to playlist, and YouTube Live support is pretty hit or miss, a lot of YT Live videos still fail to stream. Why is this app so terrible?

N70%
by N####:

At least add basic features from regular app like turning off auto play. Rather see a straight port of mobile app with remote functions added.

C70%
by C####:

how do I disable the auto play? I just want to walk through my subscriptions in chronological order. not some random play list of what you think is cool

T70%
by T####:

great app to have on my android tv, not perfect in its application, when playing from playlists of mine it doesn't continue to next video in list, very annoying,

M70%
by M####:

60 fps please! Pretty great otherwise. Slick UI.
