About Hiker

Hiker combines a compass, map, and GPS in one integrated application.

The compass display shows your current bearing and the bearing to your destination. Data fields include your current speed and altitude, and the distance, both horizontal and vertical, to your selected destination. Unlike most electronic compasses, which are notoriously inaccurate, this compass can be calibrated for greater precision.

The map uses Google's maps and satellite views and shows your current location, a log of your track, your saved positions, and destinations.

The satellites display shows the current GPS satellites, their azimuth and signal-to-noise ratio, and whether they have the current ephemeris data. Data fields include your current latitude, longitude, and altitude, and an estimate of the accuracy of the current GPS fix.

Preloaded with over 2,900 destinations in the western United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. Save your current position to the destinations list to use on your return and in later hikes. Send your current position to your friends by email, text, Twitter, or Facebook. Log your tracks and view them on the map.

New in 1.2, two ways to add positions with actually being there: Tap the map or enter a street address.

DISCLAIMER

This app is not intended for use in situations where your survival is at stake. The electronic compass is no substitute for a real compass, nor is the electronic map a substitute for a real map. Always carry a real compass and a real map when hiking.

But would be nice to have offline maps in case you're lost and no where near any cell towers..it would also be nice to be able to delete destinations that you don't want anymore.. please fix these.

I love this app for hiking in the woods. I no longer have the motorola that it was originally downloaded to. Now I have a iPhone 5s and can't get the app because the app store thinks I already have it on my razor. It say "installed". So, how do I get it onto my 5s??

Pros: Fine Compass. Good Satellite Screen -- Con: Can't reach menu items mentioned (e.g. LG G4 does not have hardware menu button). e.g. Can not calibrate compass.

I love this app but want to save maps for hiking away from cell towers

It works in the field, but once you get home and review a hike there is no utility to export and save it for use on other Apps and computers. Can this be added? Nor is it clear where the data is being saved.

If that is all you need then this is a good app. No photo or way-point options. No upload/sharing abilities.

I like how the GPS interface shows the sattelite details. I also like the ease of getting the lat/long. This is a minimalist GPS app, but what it does it does well. Suggestion for future release: I would like to be able to import and export data via a gpx file.

Te app is good. But, i just don't know how am I going to make the map into a satellite image. I hope you could teach me how.

Works great on S3. Easy interface. Accurate. Share locations. Need to test it out in mountains but seems fine. Recommended

Needs an option for using your direction of travel as UP on the GPS map. Otherwise pretty solid! Will test further on hunts/hikes. Motorola Atrix 2

Like the app! Agree with another poster however that the 2 lower boxes get cut off on smaller screens. Fix this and 5 stars :)

Cool, functional app! Haven't tried it in the field yet. My one quibble so far is that the compass and GPS views do not scale correctly to smaller screens; on my phone the bottom two data boxes on each are cut off.

This is a great App! Intuitive UI & uncluttered screen is good & the ability to calibrate your compass is excellent. Minor improvements could be made in selecting destinations (possibly a 'long' press?) It's a little too sensitive at present I find. Also, map zeroes in too quickly to current position when exploring the map. Would be good to have an option to pan then press a button to zero back on your current location, much like in Google maps. Well done developer! Update & get the 5*s you deserve!

and I'm really intrigued by it's potential. I live in area that's basically within walking distance of three units of the Chattahoochee National Park Service and have been looking for an app to use on my hikes. Still working with the app but it's great. Hopefully, the dev hasn't hung this up as it's been almost a year without an update.

Gave a great location easy to use features only snag i see is that its telling me that im going 10mph while sitting at my desk looking at local maps. That's one speedy desk chair!

I tried several apps, and finally found this one, it works for latitude, longitude, altitude and compass. And the google maps are a nice extra bonus. Thanks!

Tried several times. Never worked. Could it just be me? Shouldnt have to think this through, most apps work out of the box.
