About Homey - Chores and Allowance

The perfect app to teach your kids about money through completing chores and working towards goals.

Don’t listen to us, listen to those that fell in love with it.

“I love that the Homey not only encourages kids to develop a strong work ethic, but it teaches kids how money is earned, encourages long-term goal setting, instills real life financial skills, and connects the whole family with a fun approach to paid chores.” Crystal, MoneySavingMom

“Homey is a great organizational tool for families!” Best Apps for Kids

“Homey helps remind my children what jobs they haven’t done yet, so I don’t need to. It even inspires them to work a little harder to earn allowance. Better yet, they are learning to save up that allowance for a bigger reward.” Gloria, JugglingMother

“A picture says a thousand words. And with Homey, those words are “this is the chore you’re supposed to be doing right now.” Snap a photo of your kid’s unmade bed and send it to them with a deadline, and then they can send a photo back once it’s taken care of.” Fatherly

SHOW KIDS HOW MONEY IS EARNED
With Homey you can pay kids commissions based on chores they do around the house like taking out the trash, cleaning their room, or mowing the grass. And you can also set responsibilities that are required to teach kids that everyone needs to contribute to the household.

SUPPORT LONG-TERM GOALS AND SAVING
Teach kids delayed gratification and financial responsibility by providing them with incentives that differ in value. With Homey kids learn they need to work longer or harder to earn more.

TEACH REAL LIFE FINANCIAL SKILLS
Homey enables you to transfer allowance and money kids earn directly to their savings or checking account or tracks the money as IOU and pay it out in cash. This way you can teach your child how banking works, they can accumulate interests on their savings and you can be sure that their money will stay safe.

By subscribing to Homey Premium or Homey Unlimited you'll get access to other great features like:
Connecting your bank account and safely transferring allowance and chore money directly to your child's savings account.
Multiple saving jars for each child.
Adding or deducting money from the wallet.
Customizable permissions.

I would give five stars but- I want to be able to set chores to be done once every other week. Our recyclables get collected every other Monday, so I am having to try and remember to edit the chore every week to set it for the next. I have two teenagers on here and want to rotate it between them. One of them ended up putting the recyclables out on a week it wasn't supposed to be because I forgot to edit it. One thing I love about this app is that you can require photo proof. This is a must for the teenagers.

I paid for the premium app because this app was recommended to me and I have enough household members to make it worth it. Or so I thought. Now, when I try to do something that it thinks is a "premium" worthy change/update, I get an error message that I can upgrade to premium. It also crashes whenever I try to save any change I make. I highly recommend against it.

Although this app's audience leans more towards a family side of things, this app is very helpful when it comes to roommate situations as well. Perhaps it's your first year living in an apartment with someone that doesn't particularly clean up after themselves. Money makes college kids happy and it also makes them clean up after themselves. I've also found that this app helps as a reminder when I need to clean up as well. It really keeps me motivated to keep my environment clean. I really like the chat feature that this app offers, I also like that it asks you to provide a photo evidence that the door has been done. Great idea!

It crashes when you select "free" version.

I did like it the way it was. I don't like the fact that you completely changed everything around. The app was good the way it was. It only needed a few tweaks to make it better, not a complete overhaul. It logged my daughter out. The layout now is horrible. I'm sorry but this was the best chore app I had found until now. Not to mention some of the money they earned is gone. So I am not sure exactly what to pay them.

Y70%
by Y####:

This update is terrible. Where are the points? Where are the goals and rewards? It's completely different from when I installed it. My daughter was working toward a goal and now her points are gone and she can't see the goals anymore.

P70%
by P####:

Kids couldn't access it from their phones. Kept saying password was incorrect. Tried 5 times to fix it with retyping and resetting passwords, then I couldn't even get in. Wasted 1.5 hours setting up chores.

M70%
by M####:

Thank you for responding, I've figured out the free version and now I can give it a good try out. Thank you for clarifying. I hope this works well.

Y70%
by Y####:

Wouldn't even let me open it without allowing access to my photos. Even with the Developer response, I still give apps one star if they force you to give permission just to open it. I don't think it should be the industry standard, and I'm tired of these apps that want permissions for all this stuff, then require me to go in and just not use that feature. My PRIVACY is more important than your stars.

D70%
by D####:

I don't have kids but I use it with my husband to plan chores. What would be helpful though is a calendar view... there is something that shows the chores for the week but I prefer to see it on a calendar to organize the daily/week/months chores better

F70%
by F####:

This app is very well setup; however, I don't want to have to take a picture every time I (or my kids) complete a chore. I don't think it's necessary when a quick check mark will do the trick. They're unnecessary photos taking up space on our phones.

Y70%
by Y####:

So far so good... I wish I could set things like "every other Thursday" or "first Monday if the month" Other than that seems pretty good. Would like to be able to edit notifications as I don't want to make sure I've completed my own chores or get told that I've edited or made new chores.... I know... I just did them...

Y70%
by Y####:

I love this app! It's the best chore app yet! So if you like chore charts this is like a better version of a chore chart! I honestly love it. But, if you don't like the fact of actually giving your kid a reward then do something else. But i love this app!

Y70%
by Y####:

Like it, does a good job. However, kind of tough to cancel subscription after free trial...not nice feature, kind of a pain.

N70%
by N####:

Love the app! This is a great family tool! A few suggestions: I have trouble selecting a future date then making the schedule two weeks from that date. Can you make it work a little more like a standard calendar app reoccurrence? Report for parents of the potential money that children can earn. Report or notification to children of the coins/rewards "missed" when a chore is skipped. Weekly chore report outline that can be viewed or printed for a visual summary based on the rotation/shared schedule.

Y70%
by Y####:

I really like this app, however when testing it out one child was able to select that the other child had completed the task (they were a bit trigger happy). I checked that the option to complete for others was turned off (which it was), so I can only assume this is a bug in the software. If this was fixed I may be tempted to subscribe.

P70%
by P####:

I like the app and it's features. However, it frequently freezes and / or erases chores/ goals I have entered. Also, it is not compatible with my son's devices. I would probably upgrade to a subscription o if those issues were fixed.

D70%
by D####:

I like the app but it would be better if it took the point away when the kids claimed something so they know and can see they have used the points to claim something already

Z70%
by Z####:

I liked it, but I can't change my account settings or make the app forget my email so I can setup my account again. I had to uninstall it.

Y70%

Sucks. Lost all data through an update, then couldn't log in!

Y70%

Need more time to check it out -but it works now!

O70%

Wish I could do more without having to upgrade.

I kinda like it

Y70%

Quick and easy to setup

Y70%
by Y####:

I really like this app. I've struggled to maintain chore charts and reward charts and remember how much pocket money I owe. Homey has been a great solution to that which my child can take responsibility for too. It does make me realise the huge volume of chores there are to do. There have been some frustrations. It has taken a long time to get used to the intricacies of setting everything up and there are some elements that frankly I've given up on. The support team have been great and I look forward to new developments and simplifications.

X70%
by X####:

I like it however, setting a recurrence is somewhat complicated considering you are limited with what you can so. Instead of setting something to happen the 1st Monday of the month you have to set it for every 28th day. Also, it would be nice if once a chore is completed it would return to the chores list instead of accidentally skipping or completing a chore again that is set as a recurrence.

Useless I have 5 kids only let me add 2 then says subscription not AVAILABLE.

J70%
by J####:

After a few months I decided to come back and give this amother try. I still really really like the concept and layout for this app. But now I find that I have to pay for things I didnt have to before, like changing my kids profile picture? Whats that about? I still do not like how the points and coin currency for rewards work, Id like to customize this myself. I mean I guess I just expect or want too much...idk...guess I will try again in a few more months.

Y70%
by Y####:

I'm using this app for myself to help me stay on top of my household chores. I like that each chore can be tailored to fit my needs. So far it has been useful for me. The only thing I wish it had was a snooze and in progress option instead of just skip and complete.

Y70%
by Y####:

Brilliant.. really has motivated the kids and made life smoother! The developers were extremely quick to assist when I had a problem with one of my devices, and promptly sorted it out. Very happy!

R70%
by R####:

I wish they had some stock pictures for customized chores, and a grounded mode or something. It could be put with privileges. Just an idea that would make the app that much more amazing.

R70%
by R####:

Update: the issues seem to have been resolved. Some features I would like to see: the ability to see how many points were earned week to week. Once it rolls to Sunday, I have no idea how close the kids got to earning their rewards. It makes it hard to gauge if they are getting better and if I need to alter the points required to be more fair. Also, I'd like a feature that keeps a running rally of what the kids have earned with the ability to pay out small amounts. I'm not comfortable giving the kids bank accounts and attaching them to the app. So an alternative would be nice. It worked great until today. Now all of a sudden it won't let you complete a chore. I even deleted the app, restarted my phone, and downloaded it again. 1 star until this is resolved.

Y70%

Great app! When I had an issue the developer was quick to work with me to get the app working correctly on my son's phone.

Thanks for the response Homey team. So far, so good, but I can't figure out how to get the chores to rotate between children the way I want.

After 6 updates, it still claims there is no network access. I'd love to try it ...

Y70%

Fantastic, exciting, we are implementing this app at home right now, I can feel that there are going to be some very positive improvements around here. Thank you! I can't believe its free, some very decent people have made this app!

Y70%
by Y####:

Easy to use, customizable, fun just a lot of fun to use. And it keeps everybody on their toes with reminders and everybody can see how many points they're getting and it's a little bit competitive as well as keeping the house clean.
