대한은퇴자협회 KARP

대한은퇴자협회는 “귀하의 남은 생애를 어떻게 보내시렵니까?” 라는 모토를 걸고, 54년의 역사와 3,500만 회원을 확보하고 있는 미국은퇴자협회(AARP)를 모델로, 지난 1996년 New York에서 설립된 장년층을 위한 UN NGO입니다.
한국 장년 사회의 사회복지 증진과 은퇴문화의 소개와 이의 정착이라는 소명을 걸고 척박한 한국의 장년사회에 밑거름이 되고자 상륙했습니다.

은퇴, 은퇴라는 이 단어는 선진사회에서도 우리와 마찬가지로 스스로 내뱉기는 조금은 거리낌을 주는 단어입니다.
이제까지의 각자의 살아온 찬란했던 생애가 갑자기 무대뒤로 사라지는 듯한 느낌을 주는, 그래서 덤으로 사는 것 같고, 무능력해보이고, 무언가 없어보이고, 추해보이기까지하는 그런 느낌들을 주기 때문입니다.
그렇다고 도저히 피할수 없는 누군가 한번씩은 맞이해야하는 절박한 현실입니다.
선진사회에서의 “은퇴”가 정년에 이르러서 자의에 의한 은퇴가 기정사실이라고 한다면, 당면한 한국 사회에서의 은퇴는 소위, 조퇴, 명퇴라는 미구어 속에 강퇴의 의미를 많이 띠고 있습니다.

이는 전체적인 국가운영을 맡은 정부(GO)와 기업(CO)의 책임이며, 한편으로는 사회전반에 깔려 있는 나이먹음에 대한 부정적인 요인이라 말씀드릴수 있겠습니다.
이로인해 한국의 장년사회는 헤아릴수 없는 경륜과 지식을 간직한 채 오래된 것은 구식과 퇴물이라는 이름속에 사장되고 있습니다.

현재, 한국의 주축은 해방 후 및 전후세대가 이루고 있다고 생각합니다.
미국의 Baby Boom시대에 맞먹는 이 세대는 매일 평균 1,500명 이상이 50세에 돌입하고 있습니다.
인생 100세를 앞두고 있는 이 시대에 50세는 절반의 생애가 남아있음을 얘기하는 것이며, 새로운 삶의 시작을 의미하는 것입니다.
40대, 50대는 은퇴전을 대비하고, 60대 이상은 은퇴후를 당당히 즐김으로서 새로운 인생을 개척해야 합니다.
한국의 미래는 Baby Boom 세대로 불리는 다음 세대들이 우리 사회를 이끌게 됩니다. 젊은 세대와 장노년층이 서로 끌고 밀면서 함께 해, 늙어가는 한국을 준비해야 합니다.

대한은퇴자협회는 독립된 비정부 기구로서 한 Sector를 맡아 GO와 CO가 함께하며, 발전적인 대안을 제시함으로서 한국의 장,노년 사회에 사회복지증진과 은퇴문화의 소개와 정착에 앞장서겠습니다.
