About Samba Server

A free and complete Samba Server for your Android (SMB, CIFS)! Access your Android with ease, just like an USB stick (thumb drive / flash drive)

No root is needed!

Works on:
- Mac OS X: will show up on the finder automatically if on the same network
- Windows: only works if you have a rooted device since windows does not support non-standard SMB ports. Also, if you use Windows 7 you might need to find out how to enable it since the server only accepts guest logins and Windows 7 automatically uses the currently logged in user.
- Linux: only works if your device is rooted or you can specify the samba server port

Note. If you find a bug or have a problem please contact us by email since we cannot help you if you post it in the reviews.

**
In this version you can add one server (Samba Server or Dynamic DNS Updater) and three directories per server. If you want to be able to add unlimited items please buy Samba Server Pro. If you buy the pro version you will support development, will be able to add unlimited items and see no advertisements!

What are users saying about Samba Server

I used this App on a Moto G4 and it worked really well. Then I tried it on a Moto G5 and when I click "Add" -> "SMB Server" the app just hangs with a blank black screen. I guess this might be an Android 7 permissions problem. So, great on the Moto G4, not really working at all on the Moto G5.

For SMB to work properly you have to be able to create a username and password otherwise windows can see it. Unless this app is assigning a username. but no device on my network can see my tablet when I have this turned on.

Q70%
by Q####:

Either it requires a secret code or app doesn't work on all devices hiding stuff or developers completely forgot to implement a way for me to login to the server it started. And please if there is a default username/password please share it!

Q70%
by Q####:

The app is good, its very helpful for me. But from few days when I'm trying to create new server it crashes. Please help.

M70%
by M####:

No way to set the Home Group, I uninstalled it immediately as unusuable for anything at all. How hard can it be to make a decent SMB server app?

Q70%
by Q####:

No obvious facility to define username or password, and lack of standard port numbering is a real pain

Q70%

As the title says, needs to be updated for current android versions and configurations.

I installed on non-rooted lg g3 with lollipop and not working. Not of any other phone or windows or kodi get connected to it neither ipad mini with ios 9.....

by H####:

It does what it's supposed to do but could use some work on the interface. It's hard on the battery and the ads are annoying. I mean, if it were a better app then the ads might be worth it but at this point it's not.

Can't Connect To the server from mac SMB server on Nexus Player Marshmallow [rooted] Trying to access the SMB server from Mac, says connection failed! Will update my rating once I get the app to actually work!!! -------- UPDATE: error: "There are no shares available or you are not allowed to access them on the server. Please contact your system administrator to resolve the problem." Note: I've added "/storage/emulated/0/" as the root folder!

R70%
by R####:

This app is useless. When I try to connect to the share, I'm asked for a password. Nothing tells me what the password is, or how to set the password. Don't waste your time.

UI is a bit strange, but aside from that, I set it all up, started the server, however I try to login as guest and it seems to not find anything, I get an error (from OSX) saying there are either no shares or I have no permissions. Since I set up a share I'm guessing it's the latter, but I don't see where to set permissions, or user/password, or what the user/password should be.

I have factory formatted moto g and am trying to download this app but its stuck on downloading other apps are getting downloaded except this internet speed is 2MBps have used this app in past this is a google play issue.

R70%
by R####:

I wanted to use this for a TV Box. I realise this is probably designed for phones but the interface is ugly and needs improvement. I like simple and straight to the point but ........ The server only seems to work on WIFI which makes it completely useless to me. It sees the LAN port but will only bind to WIFI. The authentication setup is useless as well..... Finally, to actually say "google some answers on how to connect" in a product is just laughable. When the product gets into this century and grows up a bit I may revisit.

R70%
by R####:

It works if you mount the samba server yourself, specifying the IP and port, but it fights software that finds other samba servers fine (particularly pcmanfm on linux).

R70%
by R####:

Took me a few tries to figure out how to set it up, but worked smoothly once I did

R70%
by R####:

I don't care if people have been lucky enough to get this working. Why should it take root access to allow standard ports and why should it be made so difficult to set up successfully?!?!?

R70%
by R####:

Even though app says not it works with linux without root the device. It works by default in ubuntu, if not you just have to type "smb://ip:port/" ex: smb://192.168.5.1:7777/ .. Thank you for the great app and I wish I could have user authentication too.

Q70%
by Q####:

Doesn't work. The server shows in the Finder sidebar, but when I click it, it says Not Connected. The UI is also crappy. It doesn't clearly indicate whether the server is running, for example. And the app looks ugly, like something from 2009.

R70%
by R####:

Why do software developers assume that ALL Android devices are wireless? This is yet another app with severe limitations because it won't recognize that my Android TV box has a wired connection, and thus says that it's not connected to the network. Very shortsighted....

by R####:

Some jpg files transferred from my smartphone to PC by wifi using this app were partially and randomly corrupted. Firstly didn't believe in app's fault and tried another ways of copying (ftp, webdav, http etc) -nothing! Corrupting occurs only when this samba app is beeing used, no doubt it does a bad job, checked the fact several times.

Crippleware garbage, with ads. Won't let you share out the sd card and the phone file system without paying them.

Muito bom, cumpre o que promete. Poderia ser melhorada a interface, com estilo mais moderno e intuitivo

No way to set share permissions. No way to set user/password. Didn't work after all: Mac sees it, but tells "connection failed".

Brother you are the man! I've tried different, more 'fancier' apps and none could do what your app was capable of. Im running a 1TB external drive off an old android tablet as a makeshift NAS for home streaming/file access to any pc/android device and im running my internal and external tablet drives on the network. I THANK YOU SIR ☺

lots of complex configs that I am familiar with, but was still not able to use it on several devices. Says its running, but can't access on the lan.

M70%

There does not appear to be any way to set a password. The UI is clunky and unintuitive. Because of the password issue it's actually useless to me. Otherwise I mightforgive the UI and rate it higher.

Real bad in user jnterface and documentation. But once you waste 1 hour trail and error and hair loss, you get it going and voila. Works like charm. Update: ITS A BATTERY HOG, MORE THAN THE SCREEN USE. UPDATE2: Transfer between new samsung s4 and Tap pro max speed 300kbps,also intermittent so very slow for larger video files. ..overall useless....uninstall

Linux support for the gs3 is meh, and uploading to my server gets errors. The reverse works great thanks to this!

no root needed? if my device is not rooted i can not create service for windows and linux. so device must be rooted and then device will ask for root access.
