POVERTY IS ERODING THE DIGNITY OF OUR PEOPLE…..

We passionately believe that true Economic Transformation for our beloved Zimbabwe (and Africa) will only be truly attained when we tackle poverty by embracing the poor and bringing holistic values that penetrate their mindset and provoke forward thinking and a mind frame that removes the “victim mentality”.

Agriculture directly affects more than 60% of the population. It is undoubtedly the backbone of our Economy. It is important to look forward to the future Generations of Zimbabwe (and Africa) and strategically position ourselves for the inevitable swell in demand for food internationally. Africa’s climatic conditions, vast tracts of land and young Labour force all attribute to the incredible potential that we, the youngsters of today, must fully utilise. If we are to do this sustainably and tangibly, then it is imperative that we embrace the Poor Small Scale Farmers and induce a Paradigm Shift from “SUBSISTENCE” to “BUSINESS”.

“Mai Chimuti” – The Small Scale Farmer requires our attention, not only on which crops/livestock to grow/rear, but a sense of belonging, business acumen, a culture of planning, health implication awareness and so much more. If we can tackle the mindset, then we are taking meaningful strides to eradicating poverty. Something that will take GENERATIONS.

OUR BACKGROUND IN AGRICULTURE

We at iFarm Zimbabwe are connecting the various sectors and stakeholders in Agriculture through the use of ICT and Tech Services.

Our family's business background is anchored in Agriculture and Entrepreneurship. We farm in Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, concentrating on Oil seeds, Pulses, Cereals, Livestock and Citrus (Lemons, Oranges and Clementines). I have been working at Reapers (Pvt) Ltd as the Business Development Manager for 10 years now. We are a Contractor and Processor of Small Grains, which are primarily/traditionally grown by Small Scale Farmer, 70% of which are women. The Crops (Small Grains) we promote production of are:

Groundnuts
Round nuts
Rapoko
Sorghum
Millet
Upland Rice (Zimbabwe Rice)
Sugar Beans
Soya Beans
Cowpeas
Sunflower

It is the exposure from a personal, micro and macro perspective that brought us to consolidate and execute our Agricultural and Rural Development Initiative - iFarm. We are passionate and determined to embrace a demographic/sector that most in our generation tend to discard - the Rural Small Scale Farmer, and we believe there are viable solutions that can be implemented that retain value for all stakeholders.
