About Bicycle Power Meter

1. The Bicycle Power Meter provides the most accurate power, energy, and % grade measurements in addition to typical cycle computer functions (elevation, speed, cadence (see below notes), mapping, logging, and charting with no external sensors, hardware or calibration required). The Bicycle Power Meter provides these features at a tiny fraction of the cost of conventional power meters and with no monthly subscription fee. The app is also compatible with the Zephyr Bluetooth HxM BT Heart Rate Monitor (no BLE/BT4.0 support yet) and ANT+TM compatible heart rate, speed and cadence sensors1. Try the app with no risk: we will provide support to help get the app to run to your satisfaction or a refund will be issued.

2. The best available smartphone resources (GPS, barometer pressure sensor, accelerometers, weather & elevation services, etc.) are used to achieve the best accuracy.

3. % braking energy can be viewed (user option) to give insight into how hard you brake into a turn.

4. Routes are plotted and graphed in the app, in real time with option for audio speech.

5. Route paths are color scaled in real time based on the users preference. One click changes the scale: power, speed, elevation, % grade, cadence or heart rate (with Bluetooth HRM) to map where on the ride significant events occurred.

6. A screenshot of the statistical data with the color coded map along with the raw data files (.csv .gpx and .tcx formats) can be easily emailed. .tcx format includes key parameters (speed, power, elevation, cadence, heart rate, etc.) to allow uploading to other analysis programs such as Garmin Connect, Training Peaks, Strava, Golden Cheetah, Google Earth, etc.

7. The accuracy of the power meter has been tested against state of the art, major brand named power meters.

8. Without calibration (only entering rider's weight and choosing bicycle type), average power for a given ride typically correlates to within 15% (with no drafting) of a conventional power meter.

9. Wind speed and direction effects are included! (with internet connection using local weather information, drafting effects not included).

10. Several default bicycle types are available to choose from, or bicycle weights and coefficients can be customized.

11. The app will run in the background.

12. English and Metric Units available. Set in user preference menu. English, German, Spanish, French language support.

13. Reload ride data to show progress and compare rides.

CADENCE TIPS:
***NOTE*** For some phones when the screen is turned off, the phone's accelerometers are disabled and the cadence data may be unavailable. This limitation has been documented in a number of other apps including pedometers. Using the screen lock feature can bypass this.
* For best results, prior to riding, under menu>preferences, select the phone's handlebar mounting orientation (portrait or landscape). If carrying in a jersey back pocket, set relative to the phone's orientation compared to looking forward at the handlebars.
* The cadence RPM and averages are tuned to power strokes detected from the phone's low power accelerometers while moving (i.e. not back-pedaling, downhill/coasting, etc.) and is more accurate as the power output increases above 1W/kg.
* The cadence sensitivity can be adjusted under menu>preferences. The default 'nominal' setting has so far produced the best sensitivity while minimizing spurious high readings.
* Noise may be observed in instantaneous readings depending on riding conditions (such as rough or off-road), riding styles, rider's power to weight ratio, and phone hardware.

Good app for monitoring my training rides. More data than the fitness app that came wth the phone. I need to figure out if it will read my HRM. I don't expect super accuracy for this price point and this works really well for me.

The watts are all over the place. I would not recommend this if that's what your after.

Q70%
by Q####:

Good accuracy, price, ease of use plus great data export features for input into portal of choice.

Q70%

Ineffective in gusty weather. Apart from that perfect. Would be nice to be able to show power dataon my garmin using ant +.

Great app that delivers where the most famous ones fail to: cadence and fairly accurate Calorie expenditure reading. It is a no brainer to buy it expecially since any similar bike computer costs 50 times as much with less functions! If I may I would like some things implemented in order to help my bike training: -cadence filter: allow minimum and maximum cadence filter, this way it is easier to read through the cadence training, the average cadence is always messed up by low cadence at stops or when approaching low speed traffic. If I could set it up on 120 max and 70 min it would be easier to read and to relate to when training. -colour coding: when reading the map colours to understand performances, there is a too wide array of colours that prevent to understand (in my case cadence performance) the exact effort we put into the training such speed, cadence etc. Making clear distinct colours (maybe as option) would be easier to read through: one colour step every 5 cadence for example. A better look would help. A start and stop with voice could be nice, expecially if done through the earplugs mic. Keep the awesome work!

I tried it but did not work for trainer, development got in touch with me and made it work for trainer in just a few weeks. Only thing missing is Pace, otherwise app is great.

Great power measuring that is quite accurate and soon to be even more so. Speedy technical support and smart updates.

The app is great. Interface works. Author responds to email with tips for setting up Fat Bike.

Using it with Experia z3 compact and a zephyr hxm. Main complaint is that the zephyr doesn't warn me its battery is going flat but I don't think the app can tell. Inbuilt cadence measurement is great.

So much hope, so much hype, so much disappointment. Despite all efforts, including the proper methods of choosing Zephyr HxM in the settings, etc, rebooting several times,...verifying other apps see my Zephyr HxM with no issues. I'm afraid I know why this app is purchase only, with no ability to try first...and only a handful of "reviews", because it doesn't work. PLEASE, developer, since you have no feedback mechanism, prove me wrong. Make this work. Right now, I'm extremely disappointed. REFUND!

1. Fix pause/run feature. I pause it only to find later it restarted on its own. 2. Ability to load previous track and resume recording from there. 3. Auto resume after phone crash. This ties in with number 3 somewhat. 4. Electric bike addition. Ability to estimate remaining battery charge. In addition to watts and ah consumed

Idea is interesting, but real measurements are not stable and not precise. it based on the metrics that phone could hardly evaluate precisely, needs additional devices to connect to improve accuracy .

Excellent app, however having no luck syncing Zephyr HRM

Q70%

The idea is great n the app has potential but so far the numbers are quite off. I have power meter in two bikes one road and the other is a cyclocross. I use Powertap G3 for road and Rotor 3D+ for the other. Comparing the numbers the app gives me a lot more Watts than I can put on the real powermeter no matter how I set it up. The app could also look much better and be more user friendly. No point in training with fictitious numbers. Save some $ and buy used but real power meter and you're better off.

My used PowerTap ($650 on Craigslist) hub failed after 4 years, then my Garmin 310 ($250) rubber side buttons wore out, so I have been riding for a few years without either power or GPS data. With this app, I now have a huge display (Samsung Note 3) with power and GPS for 1% of what I paid for the other gadgets (excluding the cost of the smartphone, which would be in my jersey pocket anyway). Please add marking of intervals to a future update, to support training with power data on particular climbs or time trial sections. Strava will do the intervals after the fact, but knowing your average power, heartrate and elapsed time during an interval is key. If you add intervals, my rating will go from 4 to 5 stars. BTW, Golden Cheetah is a great PC program to analyze the data after the ride.

Love the app. I just spent alot of money yesterday on my dream new bike, but hesitated spending another $1000 for power meter. Then I found this app!

N70%

I can finally analyse cadence and power after the ride. However, despite calibration I've done, I'm still not convinced about accuracy. If it's within 15% of the professional power meter e.g Garmin Vector then it's worth every penny or even more. It would be nice to see someone with conventional power meter to test it on different sections with different riding styles and compare results; but then a person using £1000 power meter would not bother doing testing. The Strava says that the device used for the uploaded activity was Garmin Edge 500, which suggest that data fields correspond to those from garmin device. One feature that would be very useful was the ability to upload gpx files and then using navigation (using OSM perhaps).

Cycle powermeters are incredibly expensive but are also incredibly effective....if used well. This app uses a smartphone's accelerometer to give similar performance info at much less expense. For example, I was able to make serious improvements to my performance after only a rough calibration and three runs over a familiar route. It was obvious from the graphics that I was pushing too hard early in climbs. Fix: gear for consistent cadence. Result: better average times and less pain. Define five star.

This is really awesome and worth every penny. I would love to see support for Pebble and other smart watches. I'd ultimately like to leave my S4 in my jersey pocket, and have MPH, trip odo, and elevation on my Pebble.....

Love this app. I'm from a windy area ( Brighton, UK) and unfortunately the weather on screen rarely correlates to what is happening in front of me, both wind speed and direction. Could you allow us to update the refresh period / select another source which is more accurate, or even enter the wind speed and direction manually?

U70%
by U####:

This app would get a full five star rating if the power meter data was exported with the gpx file so that when I upload my rides to strava, features such as Power Curve and Fitness and Freshness can be used. Thank you in advance for your response.
