Expire List (best before/todo)

Maintain the pantry list. Get reminder before expiry. Keep grocery and food fresh. No more expired food in fridge.


Very often, I forget the items (food/grocery) that were put into the refrigerator or cabinet earlier. Then they got expired. I had to throw them away, bear the loss, and sometimes clean the disaster caused by them.


This app is to solve that problem by helping you maintain an expire-list with minimum effort. Personally, I could easily add items during the process of putting them into my shopping cart, or during the time of waiting in the line to checkout. It's achieved thanks to the following features:


- Quickly add an item by just a name and a number (time to expire).
- Even quicker to add a frequent item (e.g. milk) by (search and) clicking.
- Home-screen & Lock-screen widget.
- Allow adding multiple items without leaving the add activity.
- Securely synchronize data among multiple devices by Google cloud.
- Notify when items are close to expire.
- Sort items by expiration date for easy check.
- Color items orange/red to help identifying those without much time left (in percentage).


When designing those features, I kept simplicity and efficiency as my top priority. So someone as lazy and busy as me could still use it. For example, one doesn't need to carefully find the expiration date on the product cover and then surf through the calendar widget to select the exact expiration date. Just give a simple number, such as the approximate number of days before its expiration, and then it's done.


Moreover, I realized that many items (e.g., milk, apples, lettuce, beef) are very frequently added to the list (maybe once every few weeks for me). Instead of letting users enter the same information again and again, this app allow them to quickly add items by just clicking the previously added items. I think this is faster and more reliable than Bar-code scanning.


Hopefully, this app will also help you maintain such an expire-list at almost zero cost, but gain a huge amount of save in terms of money and effort.
