About 817 Companion for Ham Radio
The 817 Companion app is dedicated to all the proud owners and users of the Yaesu 817 amateur radio.
The Yaesu 817 is a fantastic radio but has some faults. One of those is the very small display.
The 817 Companion app will connect to your Yaesu 817 via USB cable or Bluetooth serial adapter, and will let you almost completely control the radio frequency, band, IPO, ATT, NB, AGC, Transmit Power, front/rear antenna... all with a simple touch on your Android device display.
But not only!
The 817 Companion will put your little radio on steroids but adding:
- logging possibilities (with ADIF and CSV export)
- automatic eQSL sending (as soon as you log a QSO, the app sends the eQSL)
- automatic query to QRZ.com to fill in data (name, QTH, locator)
- automatic calculation of the distance and bearing
- automatic frequency scanning up or down from 1Hz to 100Mhz at the time :)
- a beautiful audio spectrum/waterfall with touch QSY
- it supports the use of "panadapter" kit that allows to use the 817 as an SDR with up to 24kHz bandwidth (contact me if you want more info about that!)
- antenna tuning with a single press of a display button
- real time DX Cluster spots with touch QSY, filtering and alerts!
- 10 frequency memories for each band (a total of 140 memories!). Each one can be customized with a label and a color

To make the app communicate with the Yaesu 817, you need a USB CAT cable with an OTG USB cable adapter (and an Android phone supporting OTG), or a Bluetooth CAT wireless serial adapter.

Great help with controlling radio with such a small screen. Only problem is won't connect to WiFi to use cluster. Says the app is not connected and to check connection. Any ideas...

Tried to write the dev multiple times but get no response. Tried using bluetooth and a OTG cable but still have the same issue with very slow changing of frequency. Also seems to make strange changes to the radio settings which I did not set via the app.

Allows me to remote Operate the radio stuffed nicely in a Pelican case in my backpack without exposure to elements.

I really enjoyed this app... It took a few attempts to connect first time, then I found power cycling the Bluetooth adapter in my radio necessary between using the computer and phone for cat control. Tuning works fine for me. DX is one touch away. It's really awesome. There are a few unhandled exceptions in the code which produce error messages though. Best upgrade to 817 since bhi noise DSP!

IU4APC - Andrea has created a great app! I bought the Bluecat wireless dongle and I fire up 817 Companion and my OLD Nexus and BOOM I'm on the air with an easy to see and VERY useful CAT display. Sure I could suggest some additional features to make it better (for me) but as it is now, it is fantastic and well thought out. Thank you Andrea for your hard work creativity. I'll be looking forward to your future creations. I predict someday this will become your day job (making apps) and you generate a nice income. Thank you again. - Craig

Have it working using a cheap Chinese 817 Bluetooth adapter

When put in tune, it switches to packet and tgoes into tx fine. Then when you push tune again to take it out of tx, it locks everything up, including the power button. Have to cut power and shut the program down every time. :( ####Ummm yes, I give it a 1 BECAUSE IT LOCKS UP THE RADIO! The other features are useless if it locks up. FT817 with Galaxy Tab 3 and Note 2. Fix it and will re-evaluate. I pay $ for a working product not sarcasm!

A nice app, due to the 817 small screen and even with the feet to raise the unit it's not easy to read the display and this app helps overcome this issue. One thing I would like to see is a rotary dial on the app
