Se levantaba a las dos de la madrugada a rezar los salmos. Pasaba horas rezando y meditando. Hacia también horas de trabajo manual, imitando a Jesucristo. Veía el trabajo como algo honroso. Su dieta era vegetariana y ayunaba diariamente, sin comer nada hasta la tarde. Recibía a muchos para dirección espiritual. Algunas veces acudía a los pueblos con sus monjes a predicar. Era famoso por su trato amable con todos.

Su gran amor y su fuerza fueron la Santa Cruz con la que hizo muchos milagros. Fue un poderoso exorcista. Este don para someter a los espíritus malignos lo ejerció utilizando como sacramental la famosa Cruz de San Benito.
