★★★ Kaiten's origin ★★★

Kaiten is based on the popular open source app K-9 Mail and was built by K-9's lead developers Jesse and Chris. By buying Kaiten you not only get an awesome email client, you also support the open source version because almost all of the new features are contributed to K-9 Mail.

The name is a play on K-9. Kaiten is a Japanese word that means rotation and sounds a lot like K10 or K-10.

Very similar to K-9 Mail but with easier menus and 1 touch buttons. There are a LOT more options than K-9 Mail and easier to use. I do recommend allowing us to be able to create new folders. I need a folder to save certain emails to in order to keep them separate from the rest in the inbox and a way to stop the mail send/receive process once started.

I paid for this app more than a year ago and since have made many attempts to start using it on my smartphone and tablet rather than the stock email android app. It has never worked properly. Although boxes are checked for immediate deletion from server, deleted emails still remain on my other device. Also in my Gmail account, read messages continue to show as unread on one device but show as read on other. I liked the K9 Mail on my smartphone and wanted to use Kaiten Mail on my tablet and smartphone but I finally give up and will continue using the stock android email app which is very simple to use and without bells and whistles BUT works seamlessly.

Kaiten works well for my needs. Lets me use a preferred from address other than my IMAP server, for example. -1 only for current problem: some messages show null content on first try. Skipping forward and back shows correct content.

This was my favourite e-mail client for a long time. But without any updates or bugfixes since March 2014, this app has fallen behind and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Check out Mailwise, K-9 Mail or SolMail instead.

by K####:

This used to work great until Google changed their security requirements. Only way to make this work now is to downgrade Google's security to allow less security apps access to your Google account. IF YOU CHANGE THIS SETTING-YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DELETE E-MAIL ON GOOGLE'S SERVER. Deleted pro version that I bought and now using AquaMail Pro...much better!

I bought this app because I read that this app is the one which is actively developed while K9 will eventually get updates later on. And because I wanted to support the developer with money. However, the last update is now long time ago. And while K9 already works with OpenKeyChain Kaiten does not. In fact, I don't see any reason why I should stay with Kaiten. K9 seems to be as powerful and there are also add ons.

This the best email app I've tried. The main reason I've tried it the first time (I've started with K9) was for ability have multiple identities, because I create unique aliases for each person I'm in contact with and loved it! There are only a few improvments would make it perfect: 1. easier access to creating new identity, 2. mark as read button for viewing message in split screen, 3. ability open a message in full screen from split screen. 4. respond to emails sent to support team.

Kiaten v2.017 — Would like to see Yahoo push mail implemented. Application was good years ago, but now not supported. MailDroid is a good option for Android mail needs, where a complex and extensive solution is required.

K70%
by K####:

This app used to be at the forefront with regards to functionality. Now it's lagging behind all the others. While the price was relatively low, it's sad to see that I have to switch to something else. This time, though, I shall stick to free app.

SG5. For those on Lollipop that are experiencing non functioning email Web links (ERR_CACHE_MISS) and having to flip the phone to get some emails to display, I can advise that installing the beta version of Android System Webview 44.0.2403.64 has solved those issues for me.

Once my favorite MUA on Android. Now dead! Switched from K9 to Kaiten (paid version) because of the better look and handling. More and more bugs develop over time with new Android release and three app crashes on common operations. Went back to K9.

by K####:

Look like this app has been abandoned. Don't buy. I liked this app a lot and bought it for myself and wife bought copy too. Not been updated in a long time and no response on e-mails. I'm now an AquaMail Pro user.

Includes almost all I expect from a mobile email IMAP client, except PGP/Mime. Handles multiple accounts without much problems and let you define most used folders for quick access and sorting. OK everyday use. However, it seems the devlopers have abandoned it, and problems are not fixed.

by W####:

If I try to select a message in the inbox the app crashes immediately. I have reported this quite a few times in the past few weeks. It never had this issue until I installed Android 5.1 on Nexus 5. No response as yet! :-(

U70%
by U####:

The v2 UI originally had tiny, clustered selection buttons for list entries and less flexible notifications, but the Developer listened and responded with updates in early 2014. However, it has long-standing message rendering issues where some HTML emails cannot be read and it now crashes during multi-selection under Android 5.1. Unfortunately, bug reports have gone unanswered for the past year. I have now moved to the free K-9 app which is almost a 1-for-1 replacement of Kaiten, but with updates.

F70%

Paid for this as a premier version of k9. But development has stopped and there are problems on android 5. K9 is still being actively developed and works great. Use that instead of this broken pay for abandonware.

B70%
by B####:

It used to be excellent so I paid for the app in an effort to support the developer; however, as of a few updates ago it tries to load embedded links, etc in the mail client interface and they don't load correctly and they don't function. Went back to k-9 as it has the qualities I liked in Kaiten without the screwed up performance.

I bought this app many years ago and it has served me well on several phones and across Android 4.x and 5.x. Unfortunately, now that I've upgraded to Android 6.x Kaiten has stopped working properly, crashing when I try to multiselect mails to delete.

S70%
by S####:

It works, but like others have said; There is no longer any customer support. No updates for a year and a half on android makes kaiten vulnerable. Stay away unless updated. This really sucks since I paid for the version to keep updates coming.

S70%
by S####:

UPDATE: developer is not supporting this... Go with AguaMail Pro. BACK STORY: I bought it back when it was supported... I can still read some emails but when clicking on a check box to manage email... I got hard crashes on the phone and had to hold the power button to reboot. New OS has been out for some time now. This developer is slow to market with updates and/or fixes.

**Update 11/11/15** May have to find a new client, been happily using Kaiten/K-9 for years, but it seems like it's been abandoned, and multi-select crashes the app on my new phone (yes, running the latest and greatest from the play store) Love the new interface. It's not perfect, bit the fact that it actually matches and incorporates into jelly bean now is a huge step in the right direction.

S70%
by S####:

I loved this email app, bought the pro version, and used it happily for a long time. Sadly, the dev seems to have moved on. It still works well on 4.X, but it has some idiosyncracies on lollipop that I couldn't live with, so I moved away from it to Aquamail, which is actually quite a bit better, and the free version includes most features your average person would use.

S70%
by S####:

Have been using Kaiten Mail for years and have always been satisfied with the whole package. However I found out Kaiten doesn't support Push with Outlook and that it hasn't been updated since 2014! This is quite worrying as not even issues on new android OS seems to have been addressed. Seems developers abandoned ship? If so don't waste your money!

S70%
by S####:

Now that Lollipop has arrived, Kaiten has lost functionality. The loss of those necessary functions, and obviously missing support, makes this app a bad investment in time and money. I absolutely agree with other dissatisfied users and customers, that Kaiten has lost any edge it once had.

S70%
by S####:

I mostly like it, but the project appears to be abandoned. Other reviews note that it does not really work on newer Android versions and it has been a very long time since there were any updates. I gave the support folks two weeks to reply before deciding to post a negative review. Your best bet is probably K-9 Mail, on which this was based. I'm guessing that by now, K-9 has surpassed this version.

Used to be my go-to email notification method for my two Fastmail accounts, since it allowed me to use push notifications to view and monitor a handful of "1st Class" folders in each of my two accounts ... Alas, no more as of Android 6.0 Marshmallow - Kaiten now appears to be incapable of recovering from Doze mode and just hangs, requiring a Force Stop before it will resume polling and/or responding to push notifications. Completely unreliable and unusable with this issue, so I'm in search of another email client now ....

S70%
by S####:

It used to be great. I've depended on Kaiten for years and while it still works fine 85% of the time, the parts that are now broken with Lollipop devices are increasingly annoying. For instance, you can't click on a link in an email. When you do, you get the error net::ERR_CACHE_MIS Also, most of the time, an HTML email will not display until you tilt the phone and then tilt it back to its original position. Sure, Lollipop is still buggy, but these issues aren't appearing in other mail apps that are being actively maintained. This was once a great app. If you have a modern phone, it's sadly not useful any more. (GS6 Edge, Xperia Z Tablet)

S70%

And thankfully it did, poor development for a paid app. Go to AquaMail and never look back.

S70%

I can't even remember why I originally bought this app two years ago, but I think I thought that the money would fund development both to Kaiten and k9 mail. Fast forward to now and k9 gets constant updates. This app hasn't been updated since March 2014. Not sure whether anyone should bother with Kaiten anymore, seems to be dead.

More than 1 year without update. Right now, free K9 mail client is better and more up to date than Kaiten.

A straightforward, functional, easy to set up, easy to use, flexible email app with customisable GUI. Well it's perfect for me !!! Yes, I used to think this was a great app and I used it for quite a while. However problems appeared after updating to Android 5.1.1. I contacted Kaiten but there is no response. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THIS IS NO LONGER A SUPPORTED PRODUCT. SO WHY IS IT STILL FOR SALE?

Life was good up until Lollipop. Loved the app. Better than any other. Now I cannot click links to launch external browser. It tries to open within the email client and fails. Hasn't been updated in almost a year and no reply from the developer. I bought the paid app thinking there'd be more attention to it. Apparently I need to start shopping again. :-

Bought the app as free version worked well. Am I missing something as it is impossible to block spam. No reply to my previous post. Customer service, what a joke! Had my money now you don't care.

Y70%

Have been using Kaiten Mail for years I have always been satisfied with the whole package (how it works & UX). However just recently I ditched my Yahoo mail - which never ever could do Push sync - and got Outlook instead. Only to find out Kaiten is the only app that doesn't support Push with Outlook... I don't know exactly how it works with exchange, but I would be grateful if we could finally get this to work (we're in the year of 2015 goddammit) Great work you can do better!

It's been a long time since the last update and the current version crashes a lot on android 5.1. Moved to K9 email client which is free and does not crash.

U70%
by U####:

Still zero response from customer service; so infuriating that Kaiten can still promote itself as being a fine product. It is a zombie mailer. Beware no one is there and this absence doesn't care. Previous review two months ago ..... Works generally fine but help system useless; sends auto reply - contact you soon - and that's it. Happened 3 times. Am I only one to experience this hopeless non-service? So annoying that all PR shouts what a great mailer this is Jerome

Best Email for Android! Kaiten may share its base code with K9 but it's leaps and bounds ahead in the usability department and looks awesome. The developer listens and responds fast! 5 Stars! This has supplanted Outlook as my main mail client. FEATURED REQUEST: Full Conversation Mode with Sent Emails Showing.

A70%
by A####:

This app has several features I really enjoy, but it is terrible about syncing non Gmail accounts. The Gmail app actually syncs with outlook and Yahoo much more reliably than kaiten. I have missed clients' communication and lost income from this, I have had to apologize to family for not replying because kaiten didn't sync. DO NOT RELY ON KAITEN. To make it worse, the developer doesn't bother to reply to support requests; mine or forums full of people online. Deeply disappointing.

N70%
by N####:

Was brilliant, started to become unreliable with android 5.0, now unusable after 5.1 upgrade as crashes every time I use a check box to select mails.

R70%
by R####:

Can't get gmail to work even though you know the logon details are correct? Nip over to your Google account in a browser, log in to your email, read the message telling you how they've (helpfully) blocked Kaiten as "insecure" and choose to allow less secure apps. Google- grow up FFS, and Kaiten, time you gave peeps a heads-up, not to mention an update. I smell Google and anti-trust here... Update: Kaiten has begun to freeze my S3 occasionally. Thank goodness I can pull the battery then!
