About Cosmic Origins

Explore how our universe and all the objects it contains form and evolve in Cosmic Origins — brought to you by the editors of Astronomy, the world’s best-selling astronomy magazine. Inside this app you’ll find four products for sale at $2.99 apiece – How the universe began, How galaxies came to be, How stars form and evolve, and How the solar system formed.

Interact with the incredible graphics, watch videos, view galleries of stunning images, and more in this guide to the cosmos. Astronomy’s editors worked with top astronomers and science journalists to compile these immersive article packages to help you understand the origin and evolution of nearly everything the universe contains.

In How the universe began, learn about the Big Bang and what may have initiated it, how the first elements formed, how tiny temperature variations in the universe’s first moments led to the galaxies we see today, and even how the cosmos will end.

If you want to discover how black holes affect the universe and how galaxies and their larger conglomerates — galaxy clusters — form and evolve through cosmic time, then check out How galaxies came to be.

In How stars form and evolve, learn about the first stars in the universe and the trillions of other stars that fill the cosmos. This package of articles also explains how stars form, how they create elements and then spew them into the universe through supernova explosions, how black holes form, and, hitting close to home, how scientists have searched to find where the Sun was born.

The fourth package in Cosmic Origins covers planetary formation — including Earth. In How the solar system formed, explore Earth’s fiery beginning and how a huge collision likely created the Moon. Discover how new research about worlds orbiting other stars affects astronomers’ understanding of planet formation. We even can learn scientists’ leading theories on how life got started on our planet in this interactive guide.

To me, believing is one thing, but I go along with Zachariah Stetchin perogative of it. Even, the time before man was either created or procured as ancient cuneiform's depict it as to what was detailed by those (?) ' who came before man. Question, were we procreated or insiimmerated as " test tube,"experiments. How did we become as we are. Why do cave itchings show ancient aliens here, before man. This makes one think of the sum of the possibilities of what's fact or what's fiction.

Astronomy is and has always will remain one if my fan's for all time. Love the Magazine it brings Magic, to otherwise boring isolated swirl, in the line of A Science that has less fantasy. And terrific REALITY.

Unrealistic pricing. Could've been a good lead-in to getting the magazine. Now forget it. $2.99 per piece for stuff I can Google in 5 seconds?

I uninstalled as soon as the screen displayed. Even the introductory magazine article makes no mention of it

Intro hasn't anything to offer. High cost of the other modules is discouraging

No idea were the free expectations come from but as a current Astronomy subscriber I found out about this in the magazine and there was no mention of free! Sounds like people looking for anything that's free.

Don't advertise that the app is free when you have to pay FOR any content! !!

Do you get mad that you don't get free music when you download a free music player app? No, so quit whining about having to pay for issues on a magazine app lol If you aren't cheap (meaning you're okay with paying a couple bucks for an issue) and have a passion for astronomy, then you will love this. It's probably one of the best collection of reads I've had in a while!

Saw this in Astronomy magazine. I cant download. The app is installed but the free preview in the app wont download. I just removed almost 2gb of apps. But it still says theres no memory. How much memory does it need?!

But you have to pay for subscriptions and no trial. I'll stick to Google earth.

Ok Kalmbach, I pay for the magazine for years in advance... the last you could do is have the courtesy to inform people that you want them to pay for the app to work I'm not even complaining about the price (which I would have gladly paid if you hadn't tried to sucker me in) now you very well lose my patronage completely if this is how you do business. There is always Sky and Telescope Magazin. I would suggest modifying at least the cost or how you advertise before you alienate your current customers.

I always wonder why company's don't give a sample to see if we will like it. How hard would it be then we can say oh ok I like it I will buy some issues. Uninstalling waste of time.

Love Astronomy Magazine and this app. Never heard the words "free content" and didn't expect it. (There is indeed a free sample, however.) This is a beautiful and interactive product, very educational and informative. I'm looking forward to future installments. Thank you.

S70%

Don't bother. It's an empty shell. Just a front to get you to buy their content.

S70%

Nothing here except links to purchase their magazines... Useless app...

S70%
by S####:

What were they thinking? Where does it explain that this "free" app is not delivering any of the professed content unless you purchase each "issue" separately. Seems pretty dishonest.

E70%

The app is free but it's just a platform to sell you stuff! Wasted my time.

X70%

I recently downloaded this app figuring that it would be similar to the magazine "Astronomy"; but nope its just junk that they want you to pay for & its over priced. I ordered the Astronomy Magazine I paid $33 & change, for a years worth of magazine's. Which is way better then what these apps seem t be.
