About Violet

Welcome to Violet – the first App that helps you achieve balanced sun exposure and promotes a healthy sun experience while reducing the risk of sun damage due to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

A healthy lifestyle is a balanced lifestyle. It means not only a balanced diet, balanced exercise and rest, but also balanced sun exposure!

Sunshine is essential to an active and happy life. It is our natural source of vitamin D. It promotes bone health and prevents many chronic diseases. It synchronizes the hormonal rhythms of our body. It is nature’s oldest remedy for adverse moods. But too much sunshine may do more harm than good to our health. It can lead to sunburn and skin aging. It may suppress the immune system and cause skin cancer.

Violet is here to help! It is your personal guide to help optimize your sun experience. With a friendly user interface, Violet offers unique features including:

• Customization for the user’s skin type, age, and body size
• Displaying the local weather and UV index
• Predicting the user’s safe sun exposure time
• Notifying the user to seek sun protection before reaching the safe UV dose limit
• Estimating the daily amount of vitamin D generated from sun exposure
• Predicting the time remaining to reach daily vitamin D goal set up by the user
• Taking into account sunscreen applied and various clothing coverage.
• Offering contextual health tips on the safety and benefits of sun exposure
• Coaching the user on balanced sun exposure

Violet is not just another app to generate data. It is designed as a tool to encourage behavioral change toward a better health by reducing the risks while harnessing the benefit of sun. The goal is to motivate the user to get outdoors and safely enjoy the sun without fear it, and to Live Ultra Healthy!

The idea is good, but execution is terrible, it never has the correct UV index, seems to be from 6+ hours before, and you can't force a refresh. Also, could learn from other similar apps and show you the UV forecast, best time to be in the sun, warn you when under extreme UV, and have recommended protection based on current and predicted UV. Again, could be extremely useful for people like me that needs to be in the sun for treatment, but ends up being completely useless.

Downloaded and installed.... signed up, however when I clicked on the verification link in the automated email, all I got was "email address could not be verified". Tried 3 times... gave up. Will uninstall.

Fair play to the developers, on my initial review I gave this app 1 out of 5 due to being unable to log in and use the app. That appears to have been fixed on May 1st 2016. ATM everything else seems to work fine. I will update my review after using it a few weeks.

This app is basically a timer. Integrate it so it will buzz my Fitbit alarm when I'm exceeding recommended radiation levels, and fix it so that it will actually open with my Google and/or FB account, then I will be impressed.

I got this app because it was recommended by another app I use, however, it won't go past the "loading profile" stage. I've tried deleting and reloading. I've tried logging on with a different profile. Still freezes at the "loading profile" stage. I have a galaxy note 5.

I'm not sure why low rating but this app is very stable on Samsung devices and details are also accurate.

I really like this. I'm not in the sun regularly enough to get adequate exposure for vitamin D and this app helps me keep track of that as well as help me make sure I don't get burned. I wish it took in account for various different hats.

I like the app... But I also need it to remind me of my daily sun dose.. It should calculate the best daily time for me and remind me to take my sun dose without having to open the app myself... because I forget to do so.

The app won't keep the timer on. The alert won't work. Not reliable to avoid sunburn. Better set a timer from your phone.

But in program bug uv idex 3 notification uv index 0. This program eats battery more than phone screen.

Most of the time, the UV strength comes up as question marks or is incorrect. Please allow the ability to enter the UV strength manually. This will also allow us to plan and experiment with what we need to wear for a trip or even just the next day!!!

I like the questions to help you determine your skin type. But, the timer isn't responsive, and that's what you really need to gauge exposure.

It just gets stuck at loading profile, no matter if using google or facebook, wifi or 4g. Uninstalling.

It could be very good app. The timer isn't responsive. You need the timer to run so that it can gauge your length outside receiving Vitamin D effectively.

It works for about 24 hours, but after that it seems to be unable to update the location. Would be great if there were a way to get it to refresh on demand. Right now I have to restart my phone to get it to update. Samsung S5.

Great idea. Good implementation. But there is a frustrating bug. The Violet app sometimes recognize UV index wrong. Many times I get UV index -1 in Israel at noon (At same time then other weather apps display high UV index 9 or 10). An as all know Israel is very shiny country.
