About Heartbleed Security Scanner

Heartbleed Security Scanner for Android helps detect whether your Android device is affected by the Heartbleed bug in OpenSSL and whether the vulnerable behavior is enabled.

Heartbleed Security Scanner is developed by Lookout, the leading mobile security company that builds security & antivirus technology that protects people, business, governments, and critical infrastructure from the growing threats in the post-PC era.

More About Heartbleed Security Scanner

Heartbleed Security Scanner works by determining what version of OpenSSL your device is using. If your device is using one of the affected versions of OpenSSL, we then check to see if the specific vulnerable feature called heartbeats is enabled.

Q&A

What is Heartbleed?

Heartbleed is a software flaw in the OpenSSL “Heartbeat” function that helps keep secure connections alive. This function was found to be vulnerable to manipulation in a way that allows an attacker to steal up to 64K of data at a time from the active memory of affected systems. The bug, found by researchers from Codenomicon and Google, and filed with the following reference number – CVE-2014-0160, impacts any infrastructure that includes the affected versions of OpenSSL.

Will Heartbleed Security Scanner fix the Heartbleed vulnerability?

Heartbleed Security Scanner is not meant to fix this vulnerability, as the vulnerability will need to be patched by Google or your device manufacturer. Heartbleed Security Scanner is only meant to keep you informed about the status of your device. The good news is that Lookout has not yet seen the Heartbleed vulnerability exploited on a mobile device.

Will Heartbleed Security Scanner tell me if my apps are affected?

Heartbleed Security Scanner will not detect whether any of the services or accounts (the apps and websites you visit) on your device are vulnerable. Heartbleed Security Scanner is only meant to detect vulnerabilities in Android.

In other words, your operating system might be fine, but the websites you’re accessing might not. Look out for emails from companies with whom you have online accounts. If they needed to issue a patch, hopefully they will be alerting their consumers.

My OS is currently fine, according to the app. Now do I still need to worry about this virus and keep the app on my cell? Considering the virus comes from other sites or apps....

If you'd like to know exactly which APPS have an Open SSL, then grab Bluebox Heartbleed Detector (free!). I faithfully use Lookout Security & Heartbleed, but I wanted more details. I found out thru Bluebox I have 4 apps with an OpenSSL. 2 apps I never use so I just disabled them (obviously not on the list now) & 2 of the many games I've installed. They're not vulnerable as the heartbeats are disabled but at least now I know what to have fixed or uninstalled.

Downloads in seconds and installs as quickly. Told me that the version of OpenSSL on my Samsung Galaxy S3 is affected by the Heartbleed bug (1.0.1e), but that the vulnerable behavior is not enabled, and everything is OK.. it, but isn't enabled. Many thanks, Lookout, you've done it again!

N70%
by N####:

Let me know that the version of openssl is affected by heartbleed on my device. But vulnerable behavior is not enabled. Then it let's me know that I'm okay :D. Pretty simple app and I am prob going to uninstall soon. But I would have not know this without this app.

O70%
by O####:

I am not infected! Yeah I checked weeks ago and now I am saying THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I looked on here today and saw SOME ungrateful comments even ones implying that everyone received an infected answer just to sell a product. Well mine was NOT INFECTED!

Y70%
by Y####:

I got an email for this and downloaded it right quick. a split second after opening it, it told me 'device not infected','everything ok'. their security software warned me of one of the worst mal-ware game apps (stickman shooter) before I even opened it.

X70%
by X####:

It does exactly what it says, let's you know if your system is affected as well as if the vulnerable behavior is enabled. Would be 5 starts if it was able to scan my apps also. As it is, this only scans your operating system to see if your OpenSSL is affected. However, this shortfall is clearly stated in the description. Just would be ideal if it did lol

N70%
by N####:

Simply tests version number of openssl. Useless app. Even after the OEM has pushed OTA with patched openSSL, this app continues to report the device as vulnerable based on version number.

N70%
by N####:

But detecting this two years after the bug was originated is kinda useless. Why so old version of OpenSSL is being used everywhere anyway?

N70%
by N####:

"You have this bug and you can't do anything about it. Buy our anti-virus which won't help either" Companies like this should go to jail

T70%
by T####:

This app only checks if the android version is 4.1.1 and says everything is OK. It needs to check every app!! A 10 year old kid can write an app that checks android version. Loookout. . Look at the other apps from Bluebox or BETTER heartbleed detectors. If only there was zero star.

J70%

Have been using X 3 full years and performs all functions as advertized. Has never experienced any malfunctions on both my DROID X or on my Galaxy Note 2.

You guys are the Best!! I hadn't even heard of the 'Heartbleed' vulnerability yet! Your team at Lookout were the first ones to notify me, and you immediately offered this app to detect the vulnerability within my system! Thank You for that! Lookout is #1 in Android security!! I knew that even before this threat appeared! But this situation and your reaction to it, just put you over the top, in my opinion!! Keep up the good work!!!

N70%
by N####:

I run a galaxy note 3 with android 4.3 and as with most android versions , it is not vulnerable to the Heartbleed and yet this program says it is? Google and other recognised organisations state that it is only android 4.1.1 that is vulnerable. "Your device is affected but is not enabled and everything is okay!" I noticed affected is in bold letters! Aaahhhhhh!!! The program seem to be aimed more at scaremongering in the possible hope of sales of their security product?

N70%
by N####:

App does exactly what it says. It tells you if the version android running on your device is vulnerable to Heart Bleed it will also ask if you want to send your information from the scan back to Lookout. Win-win.

P70%

This little app does the job quickly and as promised. It checks your phone for the very nasty Heartbleed vulnerability. Hopefully with the results that are being shared to Lookout, the data will be released to handset manufacturers to get the exploit fixed on vulnerable devices. My Verizon Galaxy S3 is reported to not be vulnerable by this tool. Android 4.3 is installed.

I read about this vulnerability last week and contacted the maker of my phone and my tablet. They never responded. Thanks Lookout, my tablet is enabled, my phone is not. This is great to know. Lookout is the best" Big Brother" an android user can have.

N70%
by N####:

Thank you soooo much for being the greatest big brother for the little people. I appreciate you! Now I know the there's a problem in my phone...but it hasn't been enabled & I know not to open any apps that aren't already open. Thank You Again!!

Tells everyone and every phone has it. But there is actually a list of phones that has this problem. They are trying to find ways to get your money

Good to have. Why I said this I will never error know. Heart bleed destroyed ? You Facebook account I will never set it up again. There are people I don't know and quotes I never said. It happened a week sooner than what they say. Don't believe a word Heartbleed says. It is dangerous. I don't trust Facebook anymore. They would not help me. I can't send this text. Why?

N70%

This is a great app to let you know if your phone is infected by the Heartbleed virus. Sadly my phone is infected, BUT the vulnerable behavior is not enabled. Nothing I can do about it, but wait to update my OS. Thanks Lookout.

Ronald deasy you are incorrect.as the guy stated it's ssl injection wich is based on sites etc. and one who is slow facecrook. They failed test unless they pushed a update yesterday too fix..

I feel secure with Lookout as it was recommended to me by my carrier after my phone was infected. After my phone had to be wiped clean and restored to factory reset, Lookout was the first app the technician had me download. Thank you Lookout, wish I had found you before I lost so much.

I doubt your app. I used this app on my and few of my friends phone. All of our devices were "infected". And it apparently scan my phone in a matter of seconds.

L70%

This app only advert for lookout security software it is useless. It tells you that it only checks Android and not apps, seeing that you use apps to connect to the Internet it's useless. By the way there is only one version of Android thats vulnerable 4.1.2 I think(check I have the right number there).

N70%

That's how I discovered that my daughter's AT&T HTC One X(L) was vulnerable, and from there I discovered that there'd been an update I didn't know about. Fixed it. Thanks.

People & journalists of Memphis: You may be interested in knowing that "Tiger", formerly & notoriously a resident of your city, is up to her old tricks, with some added twists. Tiger now lives in Sharp County Arkansas, in the Hardy- Cherokee Village area. Tiger is once again involved in criminal activities, primarily cyber crimes. It's my understanding that she was the subject of investigations & newspaper articles in your city. She doesn't want people & journalists in Memphis to know where she is.

Your efforts count ...bust it! Nothing PERSONAL.... It's a hacker twice they searched typed my personal Lawyer information and my medical Dr. information and found nothing. They call it Heartbleed...for crying out loud it's a hacker lowlife FLEACH that's worst then a drug addict for FREEAK!!! Bust the thief! Be careful with apps who want to much access to personal stuff they are not worth it they're hacker crooks from hell.

Has anyone opened this detector and found they are NOT infected? Lookout mobile can say anything. We have no idea if what they are saying is accurate. Why are so many people grateful knowing their phones are infected but there is nothing they can do about it? I don't find that comforting at all. Just seems like Lookout found a way to market their product. Uninstalling. There is no reason for it to be on my device now.

Clicked the button to send my info to you guys. Thank you for a fast scanner. Will be back to install on my tablet :)) UPDATE: LG G PAD V700 10.1 Same results... Its their but not active. Sent results to your labs. So WHY hasn't google or manufacturers patched this yet? I purchased my tab at christmas and a new cell 2 weeks ago. Really no excuse for Google. Its like having a front door with broken locks. Door closes but thats it. lol Thank you guys! Great learning experience

Now understanding an app from os which means (Operating Systems) look it up. OS is NOT an app! One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Unless YOU allowed it. In a more cheerful voice THANK YOU LOOKOUT you haven't fail me yet. You have protected me for little over 5 years. I enjoy my M-8! You keep doing you and ignore the uneducated. Love, love just love this company. I wish I could give more stars!

For those who say "no one comes up saying their phone is safe" I invite you to see my results: "heartbleed was not detected on your device". Lookout is an excellent viral tester, phone locator and overall safety net and having this quick app to test for "the big one" is great. It being free shows a great work ethic. I trust Lockout so I naturally trusted this free app to be helpful as well. Keep up the great job Lockout team!

Keeping me safe is appreciated. I just want to say "Thank you for doing what you all do for me n keeping me n my devices safe from those that seek to "do harm to others", which is all to prevalent in this day n age. It is truly sad that people have "nothing better to do with their lives", than to try to inflict their misery n self-serving rudeness out on people, who have enough to worry about already, without their misguided efforts. They could put their time, if they're so smart n creative, into being kind

Excellent for Lookout to alert people who who would normally be unawares of this issue. Only average implementation. Only reports on OS vulnerability. Bluebox Heartbleed Scanner will scan all apps on device & report.
