About Lucid Dreaming App

The app monitors sleep when placed on your mattress and plays subtle voice reminders in REM, helping you achieve lucidity. After a few nights you will have enough information to properly configure the app for reminder delivery in REM.

Current release is Open Beta. Please help me iron out the bugs by submitting bug reports on the website. The app will only get better.[Some phones are not supported :(]

The app is completely free and is built by a lucid dreamer for lucid dreamers. It will stay free, no gimmicks, as it has only one purpose in mind – to make you lucid… And it works!

Sound gets integrated into your dream’s content, so you may hear one of the dream characters telling you that you are dreaming, producing a D.I.L.D. Or your reminder may wake you up in REM, so you can reenter the dream using D.E.I.L.D or other dream reentry techniques. This app is not an alarm clock, its better!

Here's how this app is different from the rest of lucid dreaming apps:

1)It tracks sleep through actigraphy, similarly to "Sleep as An Droid" or "Smart Alarm Clock", except it uses activity information to play reminders for lucid dreaming, helping you hear the reminders when you are most susceptible – in REM!

2)The app makes it very easy to mark a dream, lucid dream or an awakening. Over the course of several days, these marks will help you find where your REM episodes are. And it only takes a few seconds to enter the mark using a gesture. Knowing when you enter REM will help you better adjust your LD induction techniques.

3)The app has a comprehensive history feature –the app is loaded with information and history helps you mix and match up to 7 graphs and see them on the same plot. This is very useful, as it lets you see when your dreams are taking place. Is it 3AM or 4AM? With Lucid Dreaming App you may find out!

4)The app is smart - it can use information from past nights to help you adjust its settings. Did you make changes? You can reload old data and see where the app would've played the reminders with current settings.

5)You can customize anything from the color of the clock to activity thresholds used in REM prediction to REM periods themselves. And you may record your own reminder or use the one you already have.

6)As the world’s most SuperAdvanced sleep tracker, the app uses Science! In fact, it uses 2x as much Science as you might expect! The app takes care of calibrating itself and filtering out ambient noise to accurately distinguish between your movements and noise. This results in accurate and useful sleep statistics(using well established sleep scoring algorithm). Use these statistics on your journey towards improving the quality of your sleep. Find the best time to go to sleep, best awakening time to maximize your restful sleep. Or use the extra hours of sleep for more LD induction. The choice is yours!

The goal of the lucid dreaming app is to make you lucid. I know that annoying voice reminders at random points throughout the night are not helpful! This is why I aim for quality over quantity. Check out the screenshots and see how close the voice reminders are played to dreams. In fact, some of the dreams were recorded due to awakening by the reminder! This is REM right there!

When a reminder is played, you may be sure that an REM period is close (when properly configured). This means you can try WILD or reenter a dream through DEILD technique. These techniques produce the longest, most spectacularly clear lucid dreams that can ever be experienced.

You can disable the sound reminders completely and use the app as a free Actigraph (500$ value) to test the effectiveness of your own LD induction techniques. Use built-in graphs to see how the dietary supplements you take affect your sleep – do they make you toss and turn whole night or sleep like a baby? Now you may find out!

Spread the word and happy dreaming!

This app is most definitely NOT for casual oneironauts however the serious practitioner wanting a scientific approach would likely find this app use full, would have given a 5 rating but there have been no updates since 2012.

S70%
by S####:

It won't operate. Says something about calibrating my device's sensors. Explain? I searched my settings and found nothing of that sort.

W70%
by W####:

I thought this looked like an interesting app, and maybe it would be if I could figure out how to work it! The guide explains nothing, it isn't clear on how to plot or view your graphs, and the (very confusing) instructions don't match up with any of the buttons/options in the app. Uninstalled.

U70%
by U####:

Cannot comment about the app functionality. The interface is terrible. Beside, it ate the battery power too fast, the phone was dead by the morning

U70%
by U####:

The data seems to be fairly accurate, could use some fine tuning. Woke up one night with my battery so hot you could cook an egg on it. Not hard to use if you can read.

Q70%
by Q####:

When I try the calibration it doesn't seem to pick up anything. I also tried to use the easy config setting but they didn't work, I think its because the app doesn't recognize my accelerometer. I hope that some day it is compatible with my phone, although your website was helpful and quite informational. Suggestions: support for my device and any other device that is not compatible with it, a better looking UI, and more information within the app on how to setup and use it.

U70%
by U####:

The menu doesn't show up on my HTC one a9 which prevents most functions from working. Used to work great on my tablet but now it freezes during calibration even when I move it per instructions. It's an older tablet so that's fine but this phone is new enough I'd expect it to work.

U70%
by U####:

It's a good idea but it's very difficult to use. I tried it for the first time but when I followed the instructions to have a look at the graphs, I couldn't find them. It says press 'view data' then 'load graph' but there is no button that says load graph. Needs abit of work to make it abit more user freindly

i tried calibrating this thing with quick calibration and extended. i was super excited when i found this app. i thought i can use it for my thesis. it seems like this app monitors sleep by monitoring noise through the phone's mic. uhhh, how can it tell the difference between the noise that i generate and my bed partner's? sorry, not about to ruin my marriage just to test to see if it monitor's noise during sleep correctly or not. i tried it for a few nights. looks like i didnt get any sleep for 3 nights.

I always wanted such an app because i want to be lucid in my dream..... But the only problem is that there is no proper guide on how to use it.. :(

D70%
by D####:

I still didn't manage to dream, but it's a good actigraph. Must solve a few bugs, like booting my phone, and it eats up a lot of battery!

U70%
by U####:

Although the User Interface isn't that good i give you 5 stars just because you include so many things that can help someone more experienced.I hope to see more updates for this app soon.Nice work

V70%
by V####:

But just can't figure out how to use it! Insanely confusing. Please create a user friendly guide. One extra star for the idea.

S70%
by S####:

Simply put..it isn't. It's hard to operate and requires a lot of reading and a lot of playing around yourself. I do recommend it, if you're curious as to how you sleep. Reading the heat issue: I've used it 3 nights in a row so far and haven't have any issues with it being overheated. I do have it charging while I sleep. That might be the solution?

N70%
by N####:

So I installed this yesterday, and started using it last night. I wake up in the morning, and I can't turn off the sound recorder, and I can't close the program. The graph really doesn't make sense, and the program really just is in no way intuitive or well explained. What the hell is "math?" If this app becomes understandable, I'll reinstall it. I had to uninstall it to turn off the audio analyzer.

X70%
by X####:

Make a "First Use" tutorial, guide people through configuration with simple explanations. Show them in advance what the app will do at night, let them hear it. Then start showing people how to analyse and mark dreams. It's kinda lazy here, your only help is a text file explaining everything in objective terms. This is something a scientist would make himself but refuse to share with the world. A lot of people share my opinion here and I wholeheartedly agree that this is ridiculously complicated, and for that reason alone I'm giving this three stars, because it does have the potential to be fantastic and useful. I was only interested in this app because of the WILD timer, nothing more.

Q70%
by Q####:

Cannot get the sound recorder on app store and now there's a warning in the notification banner that won't go away. App doesn't use the soundclip I moved into the recordings folder

N70%
by N####:

I'm sure alot of effort has been put into the app, but it's implementation is terrible. The user interface is confusing, you can only use it in landscape mode, the main menu needs proper buttons, the menu design looks like it's designed for kids. It needs a complete overhaul/redesign.

Hello I've installed this "Lucid Dreaming App" and can't for the life of me figure out how to use it... is there any tutorial's or guides on how to use this app? Love the ideas and everything i've read just can't figure it out... Thanks in advance -Justin *Note will change to five stars if I can figure it out lol

Z70%
by Z####:

Good information on sleep cycles and quality. No help on reminders; there is no sound file included, and the ones I moved into the appropriare folder aren't found when I try to use them instead despite being one of the apparently acceptable file formats (mp4).

by Z####:

This app takes a little reading to get you going, but once you do you'll realize just how amazing this app is, especially considering it's free. Even if you don't use it for dreaming at all, when used properly this app gives you detailed info about your sleep patterns using several metrics. I'm stunned by the effort put into this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

Worked fine at first and started dreaming more. But now it randomly sets my wake up alarm sound off in the middle of the night waking me up and ruining full nights sleep

Z70%
by Z####:

Interesting but very VERY confusing and not user friendly at all... not sure if it even works but the graph says I didn't sleep at all the first night... Which I did and it over heated my phone. If it works I'll give it 5 stars but I have very little faith

D70%
by D####:

Worse interface ever. Im an engineer and it took me 3 nights to figure out how it works. DEVELOPPER UPGRADE THIS APP cuz now its bullpoop

Z70%
by Z####:

No introduction, just faded buttons to press to bring up something else. not clear how the app should be used. Some user acceptance test wouldn't go a miss. Might be the best dream app out there, but i'd guess 90% of users won't get as far as using the actual dream part of the app.

Z70%
by Z####:

An absolutely wonderful app, thanks so much :-). To anyone considering downloading, the app takes a bit of effort to calibrate, but once you work this out, it does exactly as it says - perfectly! Simply wonderful.

Z70%
by Z####:

when Istarted the app a few minutes later an animated picture showed up showing lightning going off every few seconds whats tht about?

Z70%
by Z####:

I just can't figure it out. I dream a lot, but it consistently claims I slept 0 hours.

M70%

Love it but it took a bit to get the hang of it with the other app semding data to scientist maybe it will be perfected. Thanks.

Z70%

I have been spending an hour trying to view last night graph, and no result. Now I am not even sure that the data was saved :(( This is a pain.

Android galaxy precedent - when I woke up, both the microphone and the sensor were on. The only way to turn off the microphone is to restart my phone. Please fix this bug

Z70%

App randomly shut off In the middle of the night and now if I charge my phone for many hours it dies within minutes

I downloaded this app and the only thing it did was wake me up via alarm 3 hours early.

Great concept, especially with the zeo headband integration... I have not been able to do anything with it due to a completely unusable UI.

S70%

I don't think it works properly on Moto X. It's showing me that I sleep zero minutes every night. Extended calibration produces zero results.

I70%

So the first two times I used it I jumped the gun and closed out of the app half asleep in the morning without saving. I lost all data. Easy-to-use except for when I'm half asleep lol. I am having an issue with the sound collection not shutting off when I click the icon at the top in the morning. It drains my battery. Task killers don't help. Update: its collecting sound data all the time and messed up my graph. Fix please.

N70%
by N####:

This is ridiculous, I like the sound of it and I expect it might be quite good, but I have no idea what I'm doing! How does it work properly?! I configured it, I think, and had it on for a couple of hours, then it came up with a graph with 8 hours worth of recordings on it? I don't understand how it works. Needs better instructions. Very annoying

Still just getting into this app. OK so some of the gui is not very intuitive, but in general it works well. There seems to be a problem with the history file retrieval that I haven't worked out yet. I think all those expecting immediate results are asking too much! Is there more info about using the Zeo headband? Hope you can find the time to keep developing Alexander! Fantastic work! Edit smart timer has a bug where at time zero it forces voice, vibrate and light notify that can't be deleted?
