About Photography Calculators Free

Application Designed Specifically for Studio Photographers.

This tool based on user input will:

1.) Calculate the Field of View:
Gives actual dimensions Horizontally, Vertically and Diagonally, as well as the Angle of View in terms of Degrees and Minutes. As well as Equivalent Full Frame Focal length.

Example:
If you input a Nikon D7200 Camera and 50mm lens from 8 feet away the application will return the following values:
Horizontal Field of View: 3.68 feet (26 degrees 27 minutes)
Vertical Field of View: 2.44 feet (17 degrees 44 minutes)
Diagonal Field of View: 4.42 feet (31 degrees 30 minutes)
Approximate Full Frame Field of View: 76mm

2.) Calculate the Depth of Field:

Example:
With the above D7200 camera and 50mm lens from 8 feet away using an f/2.8 aperture the application will return the following values:
Depth of Field: 9.78 inches
Near Limit: 7.61 Feet (4.64 inches (47.46%) in front of subject)
Far Limit: 8.43 Feet (5.14 inches (52.54%) behind subject)
HyperFocal Distance: 154.34 Feet

3.) Give data about the Sensor and values used for Calculations:

Example:
With the above mentioned D7200 the application will return the following values:
Sensor Dimensions: 23.5 mm X 15.6 mm
Crop Factor: 1.53X
Circle of Confusion: .019

4.) Calculate Reverse Depth of Field
Will give you either the Focal Length (to nearest mm) or the Aperture (to nearest 1/3rd stop) needed to obtain your desired Depth of Field.

Example1 Aperture:
With the above mentioned D7200 and an 85mm lens from a Distance of 8 feet if I want a Depth of Field of ~4 inches, the application will return the following:

An Aperture of f/3.5 gives:

Depth of Field of 4.16 inches
Near Limit: 7.83 feet (2.04 inches (48.92%) in front of subject)
Far Limit: 8.18 feet (2.13 inches (51.08%) behind subject)
Hyperfocal Distance: 356.73 Feet.

Example2 Focal Length:
With the above mentioned D7200 from a Distance of 8 feet using an aperture of f/2.8 if I want a Depth of Field of ~ 4 inches, the application will return the following:

A Focal Length of 78mm gives:

Depth of Field of 3.96 inches
Near Limit: 7.84 feet (1.94 inches (48.97%) in front of subject)
Far Limit: 8.17 feet (2.02 inches (51.03%) behind subject)
Hyperfocal Distance: 375.46 feet.

5.) Calculate Lighting Ratios (using either of the two common methods)

Using either the pure "Power" ratio between the two lights (K:F) or the "Lighting" ratio between the two lights combined and the Fill light ((K+F):F) if you input the meter reading for 1 light and the your desired lighting ratio, it will tell you what the reading on the other light should be.

Example 1 (Power Method return Fill light value):
If you enter a meter reading of f/8,"Key" value, and "Power" method for a Ratio of 4:1 the application will return the following:

Fill Light Setting should be f/4

Example 2 (Power Method return Key light value):
If you enter a meter reading of f/2.8,"Fill" Value, and "Power" method for a Ratio of 7:1 the application will return the following:

Key Light Setting should be f/7.1

Example 3 (Lighting Method return Fill light value):
If you entered a meter reading of f/11, "Key" Value, and "Lighting" method for a Ratio of 5:1 the application will return the following:

Fill Light Setting should be f/5.6

Example 4 (Lighting Method return Key light value)
If you entered a meter reading of f/4.5, "Fill" Value, and "Lighting" method for a Ratio of 3:1 the application will return the following:

Key Light Setting should be f/6.3

The application settings also allow you to choose between various background colors.

Probably good if you have a Nikon or Canon. But if you're not a lemming to the marketing machine, it doesn't list your camera.
