About MDR handpan

MDR handpan - MDR disco armonico
Marco Della Ratta is the first builder and tuner of handpans in Italy, he calls them “disco armonico” (harmonic disc).
“Playing a self builded instrument, forging sounds and harmonies out of a sheet of metal and breeding notes with hammer blows is an undescribable satisfaction. On the disco armonico I can produce a lot of different scales from any part of the world, pentatonic major, minor, arabian scales, japanese, chinese and create many different atmospheres. It's very intuitive to play this instrument since the produced notes are part of a predeterminated scale, that allows also people with any knowledge of harmonies to improve.”
This app created by Pigreca allows to play some scales produced by Marco. In future there will be additional ones as updates.

I really like the sounds and multi-touch capability. That alone sets it apart from the competition. Latency is not too bad. Keep up the great work devs!

MDR is just one of the two great apps from Pigreca. Make sure you also download INNERSOUND. The better sound is obtained by using the larger droid tablets. Sound can be amplified, but it is best to place cable direct to amplifier. Do not try to use BlueTooth, as it will cause extreme lag and delay. Also, do not try to use with USB or try to put the sound into a regular computer unless you have a great electronic filtering system. Contrary to the negative posts about lag, there is actually very little lag when using a good tablet or a larger droid phone. The app allows you to play more than one note at a time. You can actually play beautiful hang pan music with very little practice. At present, there is no ability to soften, or mute down a note, but you can still find a great way to play. I have even tried two identical tablets side by side with different tunings and made some great music. You can use the Zoom H2 recorders or similar, and use earphones to monitor. You can record some fantastic pieces, then work them over in your computer software. If we all support Pigreca, they will continue to improve and expand the apps. Well worth the investment.
