About OWA for Android (Pre-Release)

IMPORTANT: Your mailbox must be on the latest version of Office 365 for business (excludes Office 365 Personal and Office 365 Home Premium).

OWA for Android lets you interact with your email, calendar, and contacts from virtually anywhere using your Android phone. You can triage email, manage your schedule, and sync contacts on the go, while protecting your business data.

With OWA for Android you can get work done faster with email:
- Organize your email quickly with Conversation View, Mark as Junk, Flag, and Categories.
- Quickly search or browse email in all folders including Outlook Favorites.
- Use inline apps for shipment tracking, Bing maps for addresses, and other great features.

You can also manage your schedule with ease:
- Schedule meetings using attendee free/busy and room finder features.
- View shared calendars, including delegate support.
- Use your voice to look up a contact or retrieve your schedule:

Take your mailbox's contacts with you:
- No need to use Exchange ActiveSync to see your mailbox's contacts on your phone. Use OWA for Android to sync your contacts to your phone.
- Update your contacts’ information from your phone's address book, which will then be synced back to your mailbox.
- Keep business data secure
- Skip the device administrator setup — we'll set up a PIN for you within the app. You don’t need a PIN on your device (unless your admin requires encryption)!
- Use remote wipe if your phone is lost or stolen. It erases only your corporate date and leaves your personal data on the device alone.

Requirements:
- Device is running Android 4.4 KitKat or higher
- Mailbox is running on the latest version of Office 365 for business

Email notifications do not work on my device. I need to refresh manually to check for new email. Slow in some functionality but I find UI best from many different email apps. Even better than the Gmail App. I agree with the guy who notes that developers have no intention in improving. Just fishing people to Windows platform. OWA website even recommends on should install outlook instead.

V70%
by V####:

Pretty good. Much easier than the GOOD app i was forced to use and does not require device admin which is a major plus for me. Menu is simple enough, so is calendar, I would like a widget option too. Only thing that is missing is a way to update the exchange password associated to the account. if it exist i couldn't find it. I have to change my password every 60 days, only way i found si to delete the account and recreate it with the new password.

by R####:

The download was very easy but once I was able to get into my email, the app stopped working, it said something about an encryption that needed to be done but the encryption had already processed during the setup process. I thought maybe it was my phone but others in my cohort had the same issue. After I deleted the app and downloaded it again, it worked but only for a few hours.

R70%
by R####:

Compared to the Outlook app for Android this is a poor version. Notifications on my device give me no details, just states I have new email where the Outlook app notifications would show me the sender and subject in the notification shade. This also applies to the notifications sent to my smartwatch. Outlook app notifications would give me full details and even allow me to read a chunk of the email right from my watch. OWA app notifications to my smartwatch only states how many unread emails I have with an option to open on my phone. I also find it to be very slow in comparison to the Outlook app. It is constantly showing that it is refreshing and just doesn't have the snappy feel that the Outlook app has.

by R####:

Dear developers, as time goes by I am more and more sick and tired from your applications. I do have tasks created on my desktop Outlook app but there is no app from Microsoft to sync Tasks. And I am not able to understand that you not support this function on Android. Hope you make it better more close to desktop app which provides a lot of comfort at managing emails. Many many thanks.

X70%
by X####:

I like this version better than the regular outlook for Android but it needs two things: separate notifications for email and events and the ability to silence them separately. The second thing is fingerprint login. If you could add quiet hours/days, that would be great too.

N70%
by N####:

The functionality of this app is so bad. For example, deleting a single email is 2 painful actions and then it automatically resets the view back to the top of the list. If you want to remove multiple emails, just forget about it. You have to hit this tiny little square or it opens the email instead of selecting it.

R70%
by R####:

Generally okay. Can't switch off the very noisy notifications. No shortcut for moving to recent folders. Keeps resetting everything and having to be set up again. Very poor and worse it does not appear to be improving. It's been in pilot forever and I can't help feeling that it is intended to drive people to the Windows Phone platform.

R70%
by R####:

I would have liked to try this app and compare it to the Outlook app but I could only get as far as the device encryption page, once I hit continue it would not go any further. I tired this twice and got stuck at the same spot each time. Seems like it still might need some work.

R70%
by R####:

If it was possible to give this negative stars, I would. The concept is on target but the execution is sloppy and useless. Half the time we receive error messages saying it cannot find the settings and the other half of the time it pops up with a message saying that the app needs to be reset. Even after completely uninstalling it and reinstalling it, it rarely works. Worst app ever.

U70%
by U####:

Pretty good. You can make it work for on prem exchange too by getting to the advanced login settings and entering your owa url. The UI can be poor eg on Samsung the home button and delete button are right next to each other (lost a few emails without noticing from that).

R70%
by R####:

The app does work and I'm able to access all email, calendars and contacts of my 365 account. Unfortunately the notifications still appear even if I switched them off.. Annoying during the night.

R70%
by R####:

The app itself seems smooth. Needs some getting used to as it uses Microsoft style navigation on Android. But the most annoying thing is that it does NOT notify me on receipt of new messages. Until I open the app, I have no idea there are unread messages!!

R70%
by R####:

They app is good but it is slow and cumbersome! Too slow. I get notifications feom it but them use the web version to check email and such because it is faster! Microsoft, you need to work with Google mail and figure this sh*t out! You're falling behind the times.

L70%
by L####:

This app is such garbage. It has laggy updating and refreshing. Terrible navigation. The back button on my phone doesn't even trigger a back operation in the app. Getting out of the side bar is annoying. Basically all navigation and operations in the app are terrible, just like the web mail. But... It will show you emails.

R70%
by R####:

I am using Lenovo K5 Vibe model. When trying to configure I got stuck at the encryption page and the button never gets enabled though I have plugged in the charger. Tried multiple times but no luck:-(

R70%
by R####:

The app has a long way to go. The consistency is not there. Sometimes it works great. Sometimes is doesn't work at all. The biggest problem I've noticed is that you can't select items. You can open the app. But won't be able to select calendar. Right now, I'm able to view an email message, but not create one. This is incredibly frustrating when trying to get work done. I will give it a few more weeks. But after that, I go back to reliability.

S70%
by S####:

I am currently stuck with my inbox from July 21st and cant get the thing to load new email because there is not refresh option or button. If you swipe down from the top (like in normal mail apps), it refreshes and loads new mail. Why does this one not have that as an option?! Fix this please!! It is super frustrating!!

R70%
by R####:

Had this installed since 1st beta, worked fine but last few 'updates' have made it almost pointless. Setting up app to work offline every launch so it's about 60s before it's even usable..

S70%
by S####:

I tried to make use of this but can't even get my email address entered on the first screen! Feels like someone felt cocky enough to make their own input box but it results in duplicate/wrong letters being entered or even LATER SUBSTITUTED! Complete garbage. I can't imagine how badly this would turn out when I'm trying to use this app for business.

R70%
by R####:

Loved the Layout, sharp yet readable, GOOD JOB Guys, But!!! I cannot find any thread that tells me why i cannot sync my OWA calendar with my mobile calendar (I use samsung NOTE 5). Please help me and i will make 1 star into 5 stars

O70%
by O####:

The app looks and works great, only two very large flaws that i could find so far... have to log in with password almost every single time i want to check email, and my password is very long for security reasons. And, can't pick/use any of my alias emails. Great otherwise.

R70%
by R####:

Install, go and try and add an OWA account in system > accounts but it just closes the window. Doesn't allow me to put in any of my server info which I need to do since our OWA server isn't discoverable by my work email address. FWIW, it worked once. Wiped my phone and now I cant add an account. Garbage....

R70%
by R####:

Unfortunately this latest release isn't working on a number of Android devices sad really as when it works it's great I hope Ms can get this working better as on iOS it's pretty good now. The errors are setting detected server unavailable and no settings detected which seeing as I was testing from the same domain looks Tobe a random error.

R70%
by R####:

OWA is very handy for checking and responding to email, all of the bare essential features you could want in an email client / calendar are there. Unfortunately the app feels a bit on the sluggish side when first starting or tabbing between mail and calendar. If the app isn't in the foreground after a few moments when you try to bring it back up it basically has to relaunch all over again.

R70%
by R####:

Couldn't log into o365 and I think msft is cluelessly letting users twist in the wind reconciling this app with the Outlook client. If there is actually a purpose to this app, a. Make it work and b. Explain what that is

Seems to have received a server side update today. Refreshed interface, less windows 8 influence... Performance seems a little faster. However New mail notification still does not work, not sure if that's intensional? Use daily for work, recommend.

R70%
by R####:

There is no way to refresh the inbox or any folder. I have seen comments where they state the fixed this issue, however nothing is different. I only use this to connect with my work email. If it was for anything personal, I probably would not use it until it functions better.

R70%
by R####:

If I had the available space I would keep it on my phone just for looking up contacts in the corporate directory however the rest of its functions need a lot of work... and if I were to use it primarily for my work email I need widget this doesn't have any I guess I'll check back to see if it improves but for now it's useless

R70%
by R####:

God this is awful. Unresponsive at times. Lazy interface. Seems like an app from the blackberry era. The only reason I use it is because I'm forced to thanks to my office mail using Outlook on desktop. Does anyone know a better app to receive outlook office mail? This has frustrated me enough to write this review.

R70%
by R####:

It's ok, I like the interface and the screens, runs smooth and it will not force adminstrator lock code on my phone. There are some wobbly parts as well: There's no notification for mail, even though calendar events send notification. And if my password expires, it will not prompt for new password at new logon. It will eventually appear but that does not help.

L70%
by L####:

Horrible app for a horrible website. Couldn't even log into my account which i had accessed not 5 seconds before on Chrome. Please do try to make your website/apps work and be accessible from any device, because so far they're not even close to working.

R70%
by R####:

I like that I can access my work email without having to have my corporate security policy imposed on my phone. It can be slow at times and unresponsive, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

R70%
by R####:

This app worked just fine until the recent system update! Now I can't access my work emails and that's a major problem! It keeps telling me to encrypt/activate my device and I did! It won't continue past that and let me into my emails! Ugghh

R70%
by R####:

Interface is good but they need to allow email alerts to be disabled. I wanted the app mainly for meeting alerts. I get so many emails that my phone is buzzing all the time and is distracting.

R70%
by R####:

When I first used this app I had to enable device encryption. Now after a flat battery it will not recognize that the device is encrypted. I've tried reinstalling the app but it still will not let me use it, it says please enable device encryption!! Arghhh , it is encrypted already!!!!!!

R70%
by R####:

Interface is ok, didn't have trouble setting up my business account, but I never receive any mail (or even event) notifications. Looks like the app doesn't work in the background at all. Not much point to it.

Z70%
by Z####:

I've been looking for an app that gives me all the functions of my work email from an app. Thank goodness for this one. Just waiting for notification control, but it's 5 stars without it. **Update - - recently, the app has stopped Recently, the app has stopped downloading and notifying for new messages. Also, the app frequently tries to connect but then says disconnected. There is no way to refresh, so I'm stuck not knowing if I have mail or not.

R70%
by R####:

Every time I open the app it says setting up app to work offline. It does this everytime. It will take 3-5 mins for email to come through. I have to go do something else while it updates. Please fix ASAP.

R70%
by R####:

This app is slow, jittery, and generally unpolished. I was willing to overlook all of that in hopes it would improve over time -- until I discovered I could not attach at document to an email. Pretty basic and important feature for a work email client. Get your act together Microsoft!
