About Calibre Companion Demo Version

The full version of Calibre Companion (CC) has a rating of 4.6 with more than 2000 4- and 5-star reviews. This free version of CC is fully functional, but limited to 20 books on your device. Upgrade to the full version to remove the limit.

CC, recommended by calibre developers, is three applications in one:
- a superb device-based calibre library organizer
- a high-performance WiFi-based calibre device emulator
- a calibre content server and cloud provider (Dropbox, Box, Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, and Amazon Cloud Drive) client

1) CC is a device-based calibre library organizer. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below you can:
- view a book's metadata (author, tags, series, rating, dates, etc.).
- sort and group books by their metadata.
- see book lists by cover or by list.
- mark books read and sync this information with calibre.
- launch your book reader application to read a book (works with most reader applications except for Amazon Kindle for Android on non-Fire devices).

2) CC can connect to calibre over WiFi and be detected by calibre as a device. Once connected, you use calibre to move books to and from your device. Calibre automatically updates all the book metadata stored by CC to match the latest in your library.

3) CC can connect to calibre’s content server or to your cloud provider to browse your library and download books to your device. Cloud providers currently supported: Dropbox, Box, and Microsoft OneDrive.

Notes:
1) CC is not a reader app. You must install and use one of the many excellent reader apps available.
2) CC requires that you use calibre calibre 0.9.02 or later, available at http://calibre-ebook.com/. Some CC features such as syncing book read information require newer versions of calibre.

Permissions explanation:
- Allow Wi-Fi multicast reception: multicast is required to be able to find calibre without requiring you to enter an IP address.
- Users with Jellybean (Android 4.1): You will also see a permission about “Test access to protected storage”. This is caused by a change Android is making regarding SD card access, and simply means our app can save books on your external storage.

works perfectly with my calibre library synced to Microsoft's OneDrive. since my library is 5 GB this is important since I didn't want to upgrade another storage site

Y70%
by Y####:

Ask for too many permissions, some that I can't change so the app is unusable for me. I don't even need the synch feature, I just wanted to use the reader.

Y70%
by Y####:

Idiotic design, demo does not even work with OneDrive

T70%
by T####:

Does the job connecting my phone to Calibre on my laptop as a wireless device. I transfer books from Calibre to my phone, open them on Aldiko- seamless. Does what I wanted it to do.

Y70%
by Y####:

I've used only this app to reach my calibre library on gdrive and I've never had any issue with it. Works like a charm.

Y70%
by Y####:

The free version works fine. Accesses my home server internally or externally on a custom port without issues. Never had a problem with the 20 book limit.

Ok for major clouds (eg. Internationals) however it would be great if we can also connect to national clouds, such as Orange, SFR... in France or some other (Asus...). Thks

Took almost no time to set up and load two books. This is great

Great for transferring books via WiFi. Would be better if it could work with a reader app to also since reading position.

I am a big fan of Calibre. So when I saw this app, I was looking forward to having access to my libraries online. This app turned out to be extremely disappointing.

This has been a great help especially if one loves book too much that they have a lot of books stored at home that can't be saved on a phone or tablet. Recently though, a problem occurred. Every time I try to download a book, the error "Cannot save book "title of book" to device memory". I've tried it with both my galaxy tab 3 at android 4.4 and galaxy s5 android 5.0 to no avail. I'm using my dropbox as the cloud service and my calibre in my pc is up to date, and the memory of both my phone and it's memory card has enough space for a single book, same goes with my tablet.. Any help would be appreciated.

This is perfect for me - It connects to my calibre folder on Dropbox and allows me to download any book I want to read on Moon Reader in my case. Better than syncing the whole library since I only need a few books at a time. So far works perfectly - There are a lot of setting though but they can be navigated OK.

I like the app, but I am running Calibre Server using STunnel to provide SSL encryption for connections and it doesn't look like this app supports HTTPS. If I'm wrong then I'd gladly give it 5 stars.

Move your Calibre library into your Dropbox or OneDrive folder, and also set up a "Calibre Import" folder in Dropbox/OneDrive. Set Calibre to auto-import anything from that folder, and you can download a book on your phone, place in into the Calibre Import folder on your Dropbox, and after a brief wait, the book will be in your Calibre Library and you'll be able to use this app to download it back to your phone in the format you prefer and on the reader you prefer. Works great, going to buy the donate ver.

Highly recommended. Start 'wireless device connection' in Calibre on the computer. Open CC Demo on the reader (I'm using my Moto G2 Android phone) and 'Connect - as a wireless device'. Highlight the book in Calibre and 'send to device'. This was not intuitive but once done .... Fantastic. No cables, no hassles. *****

To be fair it's a superb app and probably deserves 5 stars. The only thing I feel would make it even better is if it could connect to my home pc over the internet.
