New Scientist

I have a new problem, I'm not able to watch the videos - app says I'm offline despite being connected to Wi-Fi.

Once again an app from this organisation that will not save the data to the external card. The issues take an awful lot of space and you have to download them in order to read them.. They fill up the space on the internal card. Why?

Back on track after the issue with the last update. My favourite app.

This is not a reliable app. And when it doesn't work you still pay for subscription - there is no support to speak of

As a subscriber, I suddenly find I can no longer read using this app as it simply will not load. I get a white screen which then crashes. Why am I paying for a subscription? I have emailed support but had no reply at all after several days.

Good content when it works. Currently crashes every time I open it so very disappointed. Reported a week ago and still not working.

It takes forever to open now when there is no signal. If there is an ad in an article and you've no data it takes forever to let you scroll as it has a brain fart over the fact it can't contact the source.

Its good for reading, what is missing is a search function across previous magazines, also some way to organize and sort the scrap book, alternatively if scrapbook articles could be saved as pdfs, it could be organized outside the app.

I am not a subscriber to New Scientist and this app serves my needs very well because I can buy digital copies of individual publications. This is environmentally better than buying the issues in paper form, it means I don't have to go to the shops (I have disabilities) and because I don't have a lot of money I only buy a copy every now and then. The digital copies are easy to pay for, can be read offline once downloaded and are a pleasure to read.

Thanks for fixing the latest bug pretty quickly, happy to raise you back to five stars. Please improve your testing before releasing!

Paid for a web and app subscription for new scientist but can not get the app to authorise my subscription, 3 weeks after paying. Website access works but can download or view anything via this app. I should have purchased the magazine through zinio

Will no longer let me access issues even though I pay for subscription. Hits me up for cash and tells me I need to upgrade. Authorization service keeps timing out.

Great way to keep up with NS while traveling

Scrolling still very jittery compared to other apps and browser with rich content. Also would be great when click on an issue before buying to see the cover much larger than it currently shows individual issues so can actually read the text on it. And why can't you preview the contents section?! These are things that would make me buy individual issues or not.

Publications are paid only no news.. everything is paid not of use

I enjoy reading the NewScientist very much but using the app is quit cumbersome. It works quite sluggish and misses a search feature and the ability to mark issues as read. However, lately the app always crashes after reading for a couple of seconds which makes it unsuitable for usage.

What is going on? Latest version fails with a blank white screen immediately after opening. (latest generic android os). Given most of us have auto update turned on what possessed you to release this? Having to un install and re install and lose data in the process is quite unacceptable. If that was required by the design change you should have created a totally new version under a new name leaving the old version still available until you could advise every user of the update process!

Crashy app. It is ok for reading. The previous version persistently crashed on open. This one always crashes if a crossword is tapped.

Well done, you've released an app that crashes on being opened. So much for testing, useless idiots.

Been using this app for about 18 months and for all that time it has been fine. Not the greatest set of features but I subscribe for the science news, not for in-app features. Recent issue where downloaded content crashes app now fixed. Thanks NewScientist.

Works well again

The major problems are now fixed. I can read my science news again. So I've updated my rating. The new version, so far, seems good.

Stopped working on my phone. Not impressed. Especially after having a really poor registration experience for my subscription. QA seems non existent for what is essentially a simple application and registration process.

Previous version of app crashed on start. This is now fixed and it works fine. Styling is a bit outdated and could use a boost.

Can't believe they charge extra on your subscription for the privilege of using this app, not seen this on any other magazine subscriptions. Greedy, and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Since October 19 app update this app crashes instantly. It is 100% useless now. Had worked great until this update. Running on Android galaxy note 5.

Latest version (3.0.0.1148.377) crashes on opening the app unless you uninstall the old version first, then sign in to your account again. This seems to effectively delete all previous downloads - including NS Collection editions. Not great... [ Android 7.1.1]

Been a subscriber to NS since 1998. Went digital about 3 years ago but this update crashes on start up (Galaxy S7). Cannot read anything. Had no problems before this update. Very poor show.

I love the content but the app is really poor. It keeps on crashing, and frequently becomes unresponsive or slow. The design is very clunky and dated too. The only reason I use is because I suscribe to New Scientist and the app gives me offline access on the go. It is a shame that otherwise excellent magazine has such a poor android app, they definitely can do better that this.

Worked until the last update. Now it crashes on startup. It doesn't matter your OS or type of device. Solution: uninstall, then reinstall. The GUI has changed, so it's the only solution. It would have been nice to have that piece of information under the "what's new" section.

Latest update completely rendered it unusable on both my tablet and phone. This is the second time in four months. Very lousy app interface. I will have to cancel my subscription. This is the only way I read the magazines. I like the articles, but the Android app is just unusable.

Not the first time the app has stopped working. It just refuses to start. It's the best science magazine available but the app is ruining their reputation.

I have been a subscriber for years and have always read it on my LG G pad (which only supports Andoid 4) without issue up to now. After the latest update the app crashes on start up EVERY TIME. This is very frustrating and annoying as it is such an expensive seubscription the very least I expect is for me to be able to access it.

After last update app keeps crashing every time. The only way to make it work again is to reinstall it. Lost all content in the process. Bad. Really, really bad.

It did work but now it doesn't. It is most inconvenient to have to uninstall, reinstall and redownload issues. I am hoping this will soon be fixed as I cannot download anything at the moment and I've just renewed my subscription.
