About Devocional Diario
Introduction to Devocional Diario
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (/ hædən spɜːrdʒən /; June 19, 1834 - January 31, 1892) was a particular English Baptist preacher. Spurgeon is still very influential among Christians of various denominations, among which he is known as the "Prince of Preachers." He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in accordance with the understanding of the Confession of Faith of 1689 in London and opposing liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his time. He also famously denied being a Protestant, and kept in view of Baptist Successionism.
Spurgeon was pastor of the New Park Street chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. It was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and later left the denomination by doctrinal convictions. In 1867, he started a charity organization which is now called Spurgeon and works globally. He also founded the University of Spurgeon, which was named after him posthumously.
Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, commentaries, books in prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns, and more. Many sermons were transcribed while speaking and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Spurgeon produced powerful sermons of penetrating thought and precise exposition. His oratorical abilities kept his listeners fascinated in the Metropolitan Tabernacle and many Christians hold their writings in exceptionally high regard among devotional literature.
Daily devotions are publications that provide a specific spiritual reading for each calendar day. They tend to associate with a daily time of prayer and meditation. Daily devotions have a long tradition in religious communities, with the first Christian example being the Gælic Feliré written in Ireland in the 9th century.
Daily devotions, although common among Christians, can also be found in many other traditions. Classical examples of devotions include Leo Tolstoy's Reading Circle. Today, popular daily devotional pamphlets include our daily bread and the upper room. Lutheran Hour Ministries makes daily devotions specifically for the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent, as well as other parts of the Year of the Church.
"Book of checks of the bank of faith" - C.H. Spurgeon
This book of devotional readings consists of promises taken from the Bible for every day of the year. The author compares them with checks that we should not just read, but must sign by faith and present in the heavenly bank.
