About NOMone Resolution Changer

Use at your own risk. You might get stuck in a boot-loop due to SystemUI crashing. If you know how to use ADB and have usb debugging enabled you may be able to recover from this without factory resetting or restoring backup.

Requires root on Android 4.3 and higher.
Virtual button requires root on all platforms.

Audience:
=========
- Gamers: Some games feel choppy? Decrease the resolution while you play to improve performance significantly.

- Developers: You can test your application UI for different devices by changing resolution and density to match your target devices. The application provides many templates for flagship devices to select from.

Two Android shell commands control screen resolution and density (dots per inch):
am display-size
am display-density
For Android 4.3 and higher, these two commands were moved from am to wm. Now they are:
wm size
wm density

This application nicely wraps these two commands so you can try different settings quickly and easily. It doesn't implement these functions, it merely uses them. So, if they don't behave well on your device then there is nothing we can do about it, please don't rate us down. We are just trying to make things easier.

Important notes:
================
- This application is not intended to change your device resolution and density once and for all. Use it only when needed then restore the default settings.

- When applying new settings, if things get messed up, don't do anything and the normal settings will be restored in a few seconds.
Some launchers don't feel the changes immediately and may show broken icons and other visual artifacts. Restarting the launcher manually should fix this. Some home screen icons may cover other icons due to lack of space. Try moving them around to reveal the covered ones. Some hardware vendors design their software to work with the devices' native resolutions and densities only. If you experience problems, consider installing different launchers and keyboards to fix the issues.

- If your device doesn't have hardware buttons and depends on on-screen controls, the controls may have problems on certain resolutions. They may appear in both portrait and landscape orientations or only one of them. Try increasing the size of the smaller dimension a bit and they should appear in both orientations. Otherwise, you can just enable the virtual buttons and ignore the entire problem.

- Choosing resolutions with the same aspect ratio of you device's original screen resolution maximizes the usable screen area.

- If you are using a mobile phone, the width should always be the smaller value of the resolution (width, height) pair. If you are using a tablet, the width should always be the larger value of the resolution (width, height) pair. This allows the resolutions you select to cover the largest screen area possible. You can still do the opposite, but then less screen area will be used to display your applications.

- The display resolution isn't the only factor affecting games' performance. Reducing resolution will significantly increase the frame rate up to certain limits, after which further reduction will not produce notable differences. For example, here are the results of nenamark 2 benchmark of a certain test device:
34.1 fps at 1280x800
41.2 fps at 1024x640
47.0 fps at 800x500
49.0 fps at 480x300 => the pixels count decreased dramatically from 800x500 (64% less pixels), but achieved very little performance gain for the huge quality loss. Experience with different resolutions until you find the best trade-off between quality and performance.

- All templates are based on information from gsmarena.com. Tell us if you to add a certain device to the list.

Damn this app is a lifesaver! I installed a certain experimental "resolution changer" app and it messed up my resolution and failed to revert it. This made my phone almost impossible to use since my launcher kept crashing. I tried everything I knew but failed. Then I searched playstore for another resolution changer, found this gem of an app, launched it, tapped restore defaults and bam! Everything back to normal. No reboot or anything required. Thanks so much for this app.

Hi! The App seemed to be working fine, but I messed it up (I mistyped one extra number in the screen resolution input... ouch!) and now everything is insanely huge. Is there a way to set it back to default or uninstall the app without having access to the screen? Many thanks in advance!

I've used this for a fairly long time, and it's always worked great - until Android 5.1 came around. Can't get it to work on 5.1 or 6.0. Quite disappointing. Guess I'm stuck on 5.0.

I changed res to 1080x1980 400 dpi phone shut down and wouldn't turn on or off or give me any indication it was alive. After removing batter for a soft reset it had only changed the dpi.

Provides you with templates, extra precautions are taken with a 1 min reminder. Works great with a rooted no name tablet. Virtual button resize a bit of an issue, not working at all, but this is a non branded tablet running lollipop.

Doesn't appear to work on android 6.0 (marshmallow). Some mention of this before I bothered downloading and trying it would have been nice. Update: resolution changing only works with busybox installed in certain locations... Odd, no other root required tasks ever gave me issue.

Until the latest CM 12.1, when I try to change the resolution the device soft reboots and applies the DPI, but not the resolution Currently running the 07/18 build. LG G3 D850

my phone now needs reflashing just to return it to the state it should be in. a notice should be in the app stating that you need a nandroid before starting to use this app and that it can screw your system UI if it's not compatible with your rom. better yet the effects should be made not to live thru a reboot... returning to default settings does not remove what this app has done to my phone !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have rooted my device, and the app changes the resolution just fine, but when I do change the resolution, my AccuWeather widget and the "All Apps" button on my main apps bar go to a weird scale/resolution. I'm not sure how to fix this, anyone else getting this problem? LG G3 1440×2560, 640 DPI, wanting to go to 1080x1920, 538 DPI.

I never rate apps but this one deserves a good one, I have a psp emulator and some of the games are quite laggy. Games like tekken 6, The warriors, and many other titles run beautifully with no lag at all. Thank you

Rooted G3, CM 12.1, Changing resolution has no actual effect. Program still shows stock QHD resolution, only effects DPI. Antutu scores still 25k. Antutu still displays QHD resolution. Application just doesn't work on the G3.

Running CM12.1, can't get it to change resolution, only DPI. Set to 720p expecting to be able to see pixels. I probably just need to try harder.

Man, I'm just so glad that I am now able to play 7knights kr LAG FREE! It's so easy to use and with the virtual buttons, i can change the res anytime. One thing though, I seem to be having problems with my keyboard's appearance when i change res. It looks like its zoomed in but when I pressed a key, its actually in its normal size its just that it looks zoomed but its not. If you can fix that you'd 5 stars from me. Cheers!

Tried multiple other resolutions with the same aspect ratio as native resolution. The resolution changes were never applied. Screen drops to home screen, back to app, asks if I want to keep resolution, tells me there will be another popup after a minute, but never actually changes the resolution. Tried different DPI, and same issue. Nothing actually changes. Running rooted ZenFone 2 Laser

my upper side screen has ghost touch problem because of hardware issue, but using this app i can ignore them and i can minimize the problem of accidentally pressing anything lol one question, can we change the gravity of the resized screen? it's be great if i can change it so my screen stacks on bottom

App doesn't seem to work on my Mi Pad 2, however the wm command does work when I try from a rooted terminal emulator session. Since this app is rather old, I think something needs to be updated in order to make it work on at least 5.1 Lollipop.

Enabled me to lower my visual settings from 4k to hd and as a result my phone can now on battery for 2 days and I can't see the difference at all. An excellent simple app that does exactly what it's meant to do. Thank you!

Sorry, uninstalling. It messed not just my screen ppi but most of apps screen now zoomed in. Even with higher ppi setting still messed up. Even my keyboard zoomed in. Nice concept though..

Almost perfect, if the virtual buttons doesn't disappeared and appeared randomly when playing fullscreen games. Yes, sometimes it disappeared as if it was like "out of memory". And at random times, it appeared again. Really annoying especially playing full area touch control games.

The best app that I found for what it does. All in all very satisfied the only thing that could have made it better would be a visual schematic to see my new layout before applying changes. Nevertheless very happy with the results this app provides

It doesn't show the Apps button in landscape mode. Using Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 LTE White rooted SM-T335 tablet. FOR PEOPLE FOR WHICH IT DOESN'T WORK: You need a rooted device. It's really unrooted, you need to root again. ALSO: Description says "If you are using a tablet, the width should always be the larger value of the resolution (width, height) pair.". My tablet is vertical, so it's not true for my tablet.

Worked great on my LG G3 running Blisspop (5.1.1), however, after I updated to a new version (rom) recently, it's only able to change the DPI settings and resolution simply won't change at all. EDIT: Everything is working fine again. Clean installed the ROM I'm using probably did the trick.

I hastily made some dpi tweaks before stepping out for the day. Not long after, I wanted to revert back to default but wasn't anywhere near my trusty ADB Shell. Thankfully, I came across this little gem in the Play Store. Based on Ease of Use, Accuracy and Speed, this app certainly earns 5 Stars. Also, it didn't require reboot which left a smile on my face. Much thanks to NOMone for their precision creating this!

Y70%
by Y####:

For all of the people that have had problems with the G3 you first have to change the dpi from the rom and then use this app. Make sure you set 1080x1920 at 400dpi and this app works wonders. I'm on a G3 with blisspop on Android 5.1 with no issues whatsoever. This app is a must.

Y70%
by Y####:

...just press Restore Defaults, but DO NOT REBOOT if the changes you have made aren't what you hoped for. LGG3 will lose its native dpi of 640 if after REBOOT you will somehow manage to get the Home Launcher running (this won't be easy for sure, as you'll get stuck with the LG logo). This app is tricky, so make sure you read the summary prior to running it. Anyway, the app does what it should and if you have any problems with your phone after using it - blame yours. Antutu: 44460.

It destroy everything. If you dont know what you are doing then DONT USE THAT.

Y70%
by Y####:

It should be intented as a game startup app only. Better use app settings from rovo :) I still don't understand how you achieve better performance over a ppi change.

In my very loaded (many services running) Xperia ZL, I set to Moto X template n frame rate improves quite noticeable (the effect will be more noticeable on weaker devices) in NFSMW (car feels more lightweight). Shooters, no improvement noticed (they don't need higher fps).Stock launcher n all apps (except keyb) adjusted to the new res n dpi finely (b4 rebooting all launcher icons were big, after; adjusted). This app is great!
